Will we ever get a sequel to Pokken? It was a really neat and unique fighter but basically ignored by everyone

I love fighting games. But I kinda abandonned pokemon since 2010.
Should I buy it anyway?

They have nothing in common gameplay wise, dumbass.

It's been a while since I've played it so I don't know if it's a discord fighter now, but if that's no problem then yes.

braixen made me buy it

Doubt it. It had the misfortune of being a new niche fightan on a system that is seen as a modern marketing blunder from Nintendo. I'm not sure being ported onto the Switch helped its case.

If Bamco were smart they'd rip off the combat system and make a Tales of fighter with it. It just occurred to me how well it would fit.

I wish. It’s a fun game that just feels lacking. I was hoping there would be more DLC than just Blastoise and Aegislash.

The WiiU one didn't really lend itself to offline play so the tournament scene didn't grow

The problem was people were expecting it to be like a Naruto Ninja Storm. Comes out and turns out it's actually a legitimate fighter with cancels and shit. Combine that with the perception that these games should come with 30 characters out of the box and yeah, it just didn't capture a lot of hearts.

the game is so well balanced it's boring
not very much advanced or difficult tech to impress people or feel cool with
phase changes cut combos short, which is necessary to stop infinites that would be there if phase change didn't happen, but that means regular combos get neutered too

Nope.
We won't get a sequel to any Pokemon spinoff ever again. Go's massive success, and Masters' eventual success made sure of that. All Pokemon spinoffs will not be mobile trash that directly targets peoples dopamine spot and will make them spend tons of money on digital crap.

RIP Mystery Dungeon
RIP Ranger
RIP Pokepark
RIP Pokken
RIP all the rest

You mean it had the musfortune of not being a beginner friendly game, and to get the most out of it, you basically need two systems, two TVs and two games.

It's tragically ironic, considering its a POKEMON game, you know, babby's first JRPG.

It's very casual unfriendly in an already niche genre which means it could only gain a cult following. Games like Smash caught on because anyone can just pick it up and do shit and not feel like they're in a overwhelming ROFLstomp. Pokken is highly in-depth and has more depth in it than any Smash game except for Melee.

No, Pokemon spin-offs are all mobileshit now. And all of the mainline ones are just shit now.

Besides Pokken's blatant references to Tekken, they play nothing alike el stupido.

>Spin-off
>a console spin-off
Stop daydreaming user.

mystery dungeon could so easily be made into a gatcha f2p mobile game that i'm almost surprised its not happened yet.

dsffds

I play competitively, I hope so but I have little faith, TPCI was infamously incompetent or unwilling to properly market the game or support it's scene and basically let it out to die twice.

Pokken plays nothing like Tekken. it's more like Street Fighter, with more playstyle diversity, and mechanics that further encourage adaption, namely

- an attack height system that has moves bypassing and punishing other moves rather then blocking based on height,
- and an anti-infinite system that forces a return to neutral with a counter/point mechanic where once a certain amount of points are racked up, the combo is broken, the player that intigates the shift gets meter/health, and it briefly turns into a gundam vs style game before shifting back after an additional heavy hit; with different moves having different shift points and ergo forcing you to change up your combo composition and BNB's based on if shifting sooner or later is more advantagous.

You can still find matches online but unless you live in a major metropoltian area you may not have locals at this point, and while there's still a fair amount of larger majors and regionals the game's at, the entrant numbers are usually on the low side these days (usally 30-60 people).

The discord (discord.gg/pokken) is definetely something you at least wanna lurk in since the community resources are all centralized around it and pokkarena.com, which makes keeping up with the scene and meta pretty intuitive, unlike a lot of other FG's

The scene was doing fine for a long while, even if it never got huge'; it's really only now starting to die now and even then it'll still likely be active enough to find matches and play with other people if you hang around the places above for a few more years.

I would disagree with you, the game's got a lot of crazy jank shit despite it's really solid overall balance, and there's a decent amount of high level tech.

bump

Pikachu is literally a nerfed mishima. Tekken is better.

Machamp is so good, one of the coolest grapplers in years. Also Croagunk is super fun, love how his playstyle is Faust plus Wei and Sai from Blitzkampf mashed together and made even more random; RNG King.

Game is cool and I like it a lot. But sadly, it's under TPCi, they love making spinoffs and leaving them to rot.
