Late title drops
>Fight against an important character from a previous game
>Uses the previous game's battle music
YOUR FAITH IS A HAUNTING CURSE
PLEASE, I'M JUST A HUMAN BEING
>Enemy uses mechanics usually reserved for the player
>Final boss theme has main theme remixed in it
>Final cutscene with MC fighting Final Boss
>main theme start playing
MUHH DIIIIIICCCCKKKKKKK
The TMNT cartoon theme on the arcade game intro
Ready to die? Then die.
>Game ends with the same line it starts with
Fucking love this shit.
>main theme of the game is plucky and implies a light hearted tone
>final boss theme is a remix of main theme, now sounds dark and sinister
>Final boss music is remix of the title screen music
>Credits
>And special thanks to...YOU!
>Final boss theme is separated into separate movements, with the first heavily referencing the intro theme and the last with the main antagonist's theme
>Have to go back to the first level of the game
>Only now it's all invaded / on fire / fucked up
>Have to have a boss battle against the protagonist's own doubts
>Otherwise not-noteworthy thing you encountered near the start of the game turns out to be a really important keystone or important memento
>During what might otherwise be a cutscene with no obvious prompt to act, you can act anyway to interrupt whatever some asshole is trying to do
>Secret area turns out to open up into a whole new section of the game
>What you thought was a glitch turned out to be an entirely new game mechanic
>Replaying the game with knowledge of that new game mechanic opens up an entirely new route or ending
>Stanley thought he had broken the map, until he heard the narrator and realised it was part of the game's design all along
>ALL IS DONE
>main antagonists are a team of villains who harass you throughout the game
>you fight them all in a row before the final boss
Bonus points if they have abilities mirroring the player or their party.
>rival puts his side's objectives and ambitions aside just for a chance to have a fair fight with you
Holy shit MGS3 Ocelot has never left my mind ever since I first saw him so many years ago, what a fucking kino character
YOU WILL NOT FORGET THIS DEVIL'S POWER
>game doesn't point out certain mechanics
>you can observe enemies doing them and learn from them
a lost art
Examples?
>game opens with a cutscene that takes place in the endgame
>when you arrive there for real
Listen to our story...
>Who gets to go first?
How about me?
youtube.com
Not exactly what you're talking about but necrodancer's ost is amazing enough anyway.
is some great shit too
>themesong plays during the final battle
that is the hypest shit
>boss from early in the game returns later in the game as a regular enemy
I fucking love this one. It really shows how much stronger you've become
I don't think I'll ever experience again the thrill I had when a stressed out char went Heroic at a boss in DD
>Credits music is the true version of the title screen music
>Your rival/antagonist teams up with you to fight a greater evil
Star Fox Assault was fucking kino
I agree but can we get a list of examples going bros?
>Objective: Survive.
>you were just a random encounter to him
Star Fox 64 is a one hour hype experience every time you play.
>Game makes you fight a character with the same sort of powers as you
>You have to figure out how to counter your own tactics
God damn Persona 4s credits had me fucked up.
Not even crying because sad ending cause it wasn't, just crying bittersweet tears cause the story was actually over. God damn P4 is such a good game
I love how the final quest in the ffxiv expansions are always the name of the expansion, and the payoff is always fantastic
>boss battle where he'll always deflect your bullets, so you're supposed to melee fight him
>knocking him back/down lets shoot him
Super Castlevania IV
MGS 3?
I was insanely hyped in the last part of Eternal Sonata. Chopin realising he was in a dream, and going AGAINST the party was some riduclously cool shit. The game was kinda 3/5 material, but that end reveal, combined with the music was magnificent
>old protagonist teams up with you to fight the big bad
I didn't have a specific title in mind, but if I remember right, The Devil's Third had it
>Final Boss was hidden in an area you visit all the fucking time.
>villain who constantly lost to the main protagonist finally gets his victory at the beginning of the game and remains a threat until the very end
God Paper Mario was such unadultered kino. Why the fuck did ISIS have to drop the ball so hard?
You meet the person who will be the final boss in the first 10 minutes of the game
sounds awesome, which game?
>Pursuit - Cornered 2004 starts playing
Digital Devil Saga's superboss is the protagonist of SMT: Nocturne and one of the hardest fights in any JRPG
>Final boss fight
>All seems hopeless for the main character/their party
>They use the magical maguffins or whatever to power up
>The boss music shifts up a key and becomes more energetic
>boss is literally just you
just kidding it's a puzzle boss get fucked
youtu.be
>secondary antagonist can become an ally
>main antagonist can be made to see the error of their ways
>the real antagonist was (You) the whole time
based
Most QTEs are annoying, but having unorthodox button prompts or having to repeat them in important moments for story reasons is pretty hype
Couple non-asura's wrath examples would be:
>DQB2 features a character that can't build things
>You play as him and try. Fail
>Game tells you to try again, this time with BUILD IT!!!
>He fucks up
>Text keeps getting bigger and more stylized with the button prompt getting bigger
or
>Wonderful 101's final prompt is just "SAVE THE WORLD"
>final boss is the dude who accompanies you throughout the whole game in disguise
Fuck, that battle was kino
Chapter 15: (Ghost Trick)
>pirated
THIS IS MY SHIT
> youtube.com
Came buckets to this in Sun/Moon
>game has 2 characters and verious endings
>you have to play as both to unlock the extra endings
>in one of those they end up fighting each other
muramasa is the shit man
>After beating the game the title screen remixes to an orchestral version.
It's an atelier game
SHB really nailed quite a few of the kino points in these threads
Homeworld.
youtu.be
>Theme of Eastern Story starts playing
youtu.be
>Player and Final Boss are at maximum power at the start of the fight
>Eventually the fight is down to them using their fists
Any games that do that? It's my shit.
Loved that moment
>main villain has a reconciliation with the heroes and realizes his mistakes
>slow, sad or happy reprise of the villain's theme plays
>they join the heroes against the true villain
>you come to understand the main villain’s motivations, even feel sympathetic despite his actions
>you have a civil conversation before the final dungeon about your ambitions
>there are no hard feelings between both of you anymore, only respect, but you still need to fight to decide the future of the world
>upon being defeated he praises you and encourages you
>final boss comes back in the sequel and helps the mc gain new powers and about what he should do
Shadow Hearts and SH Covenant were pretty kino
>health bar is modified in some way
>has extra layers
>is over 100%
>or the classic
>Health: ????
>boss openly mocks you
>gets mad when you perform well
> main battle theme gets remixed for the final boss
>beat the final boss
>reveals second form
>you start with health drained down to 1
>boss attacks first
>final boss winds up being your commander who was also disguised as a party member that "died" half way through the game
Fuck you Cackletta
Undertale's pacifist boss winds a bunch of themes into one
>Start battle solo
>Party members join in mid battle.
>cutscene before the final boss has a reprise of the main theme as you go into your final form
Game?
breahs be honest, is DMC5 good. I fucking love bayonetta and MGR, but I couldn't beat DmC4 it bored me to tears. Nero was just so fucking boring, maybe it gets good later but I couldn't do it. Is 5 gucci
Not him, but Eternal Darkness does a poor job explaining higher level spells, so I learned by noticing the pattern on a barrier in one of the levels
Yes
I believe that's from Transistor. Looks like it, anyhow.
>Final boss starts targeting MC with insta-kill moves
>party members continuously knock him out of the way and take the hit
Jeanne in Bayonetta 1
It topped 3 for me. If nero in 4 got you bored then you'll find V a slog, but fortunately for you he only gets a handful of missions
>They literally just kick the shit out of you
Fucking Kino
TW101's final battle theme is a remix of the main theme
youtube.com
Really what killed me in 4 was
>the fucking weird walk -> into run when holding foward
>nero has like 4 moves when you start and you unlock them very slowly
If both are fixed I'll be ok
>villain puts differences aside and teams up with you to fight the true evil
aww look at the cute little bunny
>Him
>boss theme has a version 2 with lyrics
youtube.com
God this fucking track is so fucking GOOD
name games i want this
And the rival in Godhand.
>old man stands up from his wheelchair
It is indeed Transistor
i dont recall because i never got super far into it, but doesnt that happen in Chrono Trigger?
It scared the shit out of 7 year old me
Chrono Trigger
also Mario RPG
That and romeros head deeply disturbed young me
>Game's title is announced by a different character chosen at random each time you go to the start screen
>boss changes hair color when he powers up
>The fight with chakravartin in asuras wrath
>The templar fight in bayo 2
Kino
>character's battle quotes change as they develop and the story progresses
I didn't find out about the head until Youtube came along
In Metal Slug 2, the aliens kidnap Morden after you beat him, and you fight the mothership alongside a platoon of Rebellion soldiers.
I always feel so empty after completing a Persona game.
Yeah. The main character also dies and you can finish the game without reviving him if you want to get one of the like 13 different endings
>Vs Boss
>Vs Boss 2
>Vs Boss (final)
>parrying is a vital mechanic in your characters moveset
>boss parries your attacks so you have to parry his parries
It's better in 3, where you just go to space to rescue the villain and your friend from the aliens
Not really a common thing (in fact i've only seen it once), but
>Random chance for protag to interrupt the death animation and get back up when you die
Digital Devil Saga 1, maybe the hardest boss fight in all of JRPGs if you don't cheese him
>JOJO NO KIMIYO NA BOKEN
>AIZU OBU HEBUN!
Kingdom hearts II
Punch Out!! Wii.
Jake's chapter from RE6.
My dads friend knew the cheat codes and told me all of them. I had them written down in a little notebook where I would draw all the enemies. It was until I was in my teenage years I figured out how to actually kill the Icon of Sin.
I thought it was meant to be unkillable unless you noclipped. I thought the devil being a tortured woman who cried out in pain when you attacked it was supposed to make you feel bad. I also was DEEPLY disturbed when you had to kill the commander keens. That fucking sound they make when they die
>game says it has a permadeath mechanic
>it doesn't
Super Paper Mario
>proceeds to dab on your entire party
Not really, that's more of a "survive fatal attacks with 1HP" mechanic, unless you're talking about Mickey showing up to help in certain fights which is something completely different.
I was thinking of the thing from Punch-Out Wii.
Can't Sora just get back up sometimes WITHOUT Mickey? I coulda swore.
nero has a lot more moves, and his buster arm is replaced with something a lot better
>Female boss can be defeated via romance
still waiting for someone to make said game
>old mentor fights you just to see how far you've come
Stella Glow, user. It's a 3DS game
Final Battle of KH2 where the Destiny Boyz finishing of Xemnas by 3-Ding him through a table.
Fucking NieR Automata takes the cake for this, fucking route C.
>Boss is named after a concept
God I hate kanji. theres always a new one to memorize and then you never see it again.
>for the final boss to exist someone just has to think about them, or even the idea of them
>everyone gets seperated before a timeskip
>start out with only 2 of you against an army
>teammates join back as the level progresses
Blue Lions are pretty fucking kino
Breath of Fire?
In Kid Icarus: Uprising, you have three entire chapters of this and it feels like you're in a wild ride at 300kmh chapter 18 feels like crashing in a wall after going that fast
>game uses poetry
>the VA
>the music
>the environment
>get hit by a turn() for the first time in the game
Fuck I need to play Transistor again, so much of that game was so good
What even were the chances of it happening in Punch Out? I remember it being the fucking coolest thing in the game to me, but I got it like 2-3 times.
I think you had to mash buttons for it and maybe you had to perform well in the fight or something?
Child of Light uses rhymes in conversations, but beyond that and DQ, I can't remember other games doing that.
SHOUJO SENSEN
Yo.
Bloodborne
DMC5 (and technically some of the previous DMCs too since they quoted Dante)
>the area before the final boss is a gauntlet of all the previous boss battles
>Ability allows you to restore a small amount of health every time you inflict damage
>Ability increases your damage output significantly if you're at critically low health
FUCK I forgot about her, and I was watching some ventrilo harassment videos last night where they used her to make everyone's mad
>final boss drops weapon and starts using fist
>player character DIES
>Final boss is literally the first person you see in the game
leitmotifs rule
Ace Combat 5 has the former enemy nation joining you to fight those who have been secretly pulling the strings of the entire conflict
>do more damage at low HP
>100% crit chance at low HP
Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel
>The final boss ends up being someone who was in your party before
>game normally has the protag fighting alongside a party
>one of the game's bosses forces a 1v1 duel
>The final boss is the Tutorial fight that teaches you the mechanics
The boss themes in this game were just amazing. CoL was nothing much but I really enjoyed it youtube.com
>Main character gets fucking killed and you play as the villain from that point on
Never seen a game do this actually
The Meowstress in Monster Hunter rhymes and uses cat puns. Not really poetry, but still.
The Occuria in FF12 speak in full iambic pentameter. Venat the heretic speaks in iambic tetrameter instead.
The Gravemind from Halo 2 speaks in trochaic heptameter almost always.
>game has the rest of the party 3v1 the main protagonist
>everyone you met along your journey shows up in the end to fight the final boss with you
I've played an H-game that did this, but I couldn't tell you which one it was. It was one of those mediocre RPGmaker games.
also in azure striker gunvolt
>the final boss is one of your previous party members who left due to differences in goals
>he killed the main antagonist right before you arrived and powered up off of them
>the only thing left standing in your way is him
>the only thing left standing in his way is you
Closest thing is Nier:A at the beginning of route C, but A2 wasn't really evil to begin with
Fuck, I forgot about the Gravemind. That's always a blast to listen to, especially in that deep gravelly voice.
>previous bosses and enemies sacrifice themselves to help you defeat the big bad at the end
>I extended salvation to you, even though it meant bending the laws of the universe
>I need you to show me that I was right, that it was worth breaking the rules to save you
>Now show me humanity's true potential
>The enemy strikes first!
>Energy compression - Critical
>Stephen smirks...
>nobody arrives to the final area where you are about to fight the final boss
>because you killed everybody you met and cared about to fulfill your own ambitions
>you started the game alone
>you end the game alone
Hat in Time
>Smile Charge
>Flynn: "I'M GOING!"
>Flynn smirks...
The closest game I can think of is Chrono Trigger where Magus is recruitable after Chrono dies, but his death is just a temporary thing.
>final boss has someone they care about deeply
THIS IS MINE! AND ALICE! AND EVERYONE ELSE'S! ULTIMATE QUADRUPLE GIGA!!
FIRE!
Hang on, April!
[theme starts]
Motherfucking Suikoden 2.
Not exactly this but in Rain World when you get caught by a lizard there's a chance you won't instantly die, and if the lizard loses grip on you on the way to its hole for any reason you can escape.
>recruit every boss you beat
>fighting the bosses optional and you can rush straight to the end, but it'll be nearly impossible without help from the others
>Final Boss gets a happy ending after all
Name the games Yea Forums
Have you found a reason to fight yet, buddy?
>AND THIS ONE'S FOR FRIENDBOT
Golden ending of
Champions theme in S/M is fucking incredible
youtu.be
Fucking Spider.
>Main character dies after defeating the final boss
>Sequel revolves around characters from the previous game's party dealing with main character's dead and the peace he protected
>special ability/transformation with its own music activates when you reach critical health
>final boss uses the same skills/techniques as the protagonist
You just had to mash 1 and 2 on the Wii version as Mac is doing the animation for his TKO. He stops himself from falling down and gets a tiny bit of health back.
Assault had amazing music plus a super fun splitscreen mode
it was mainly hampered by the Gamecube controller mostly
youtu.be
youtu.be
The first time I fought Gherman is actually the most fun I've ever had with a game. He's not the hardest boss in the game or anything, especially when you factor in the DLC, but nothing builds hype like that seeing him get up to fight you, especially considering he's only trying to save you from the nightmare.
>final boss is the protagonist
>Character comes back from a previous game
>Despite changes to the style and functions of the game, the old character seems to operate under the rules and style of the game they game from
It's very rare but I adore meta things like that, JC Denton in the second Deus Ex having longer lines of dialogue with more to what he said than anyone else in that entire sequel was a great touch
>gets mad when you perform well
This is literally what happens when You survive Knights of the Round's ultimate in Heavensward. King Thordan gets so shook he starts flailing his sword around at you all like a madman screaming bloody murder
Nigga what game
Purse Owner 4
>Fun buildup to a boss battle that goes on a bit too long
>The boss is a trickster and the buildup involves him trying to deceive you multiple times
>By the time you get to the actual fight you're anxious to just beat the shit out of him
>He makes his appearance by powering up, his several overlapping health bars filling up the top of the screen
>Run up dauntlessly and knock him the fuck out with a single punch
What game, Yea Forums?
i fucking love reach
Horizon Zero Dawn was pretty tedious towards the end, but it's one of the best examples of this if you did all the sidequests. Also the characters from the DLC expansion will be there too if you finished it before the main story, which was a nice touch.
I guess earthbound if you heal or finish the fight before your health ticks to 0
>High-stakes battle against your rival
>Your random insta-kill summon activates at the start of the battle
>Your rival kills the summon without breaking a sweat
One of the best moments in FF8
Spiderman mysterio?
That sucks
Ye
Good taste.
>protagonist spends the entire game trying to stop the villain from unleashing hell on earth, wins at the end
>the expansion/sequel has his offspring fucking up and unleashing said evil by accident
>Just you, me, and Sweet Georgia Brown.
REDIPS!
Basically the whole Void Termina theme?
Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion
I know the theme is present in a lot of his other songs but god damn the fact that it's so blatant here makes it the hypest shit.
>its gotten to the point where (you) are insanely overpowered
>every character knows this
>boss knows that there's no chance of winning
>still fights you anyways
>game has a happy brown girl
>she's one of the only people who survive the game
>final boss theme remixes the intro/game theme
youtube.com
Wow what a shitty thumbnail
>Defeat the final boss
>Credits are rolling
>Wait, why am I still playing?
>Wait, what?
>Game isn't even halfway done
I was going to guess Hollow Knight.
I bring this up every time and always have trouble wording it but here we go
>Time Travel plot with a single timeline, so the characters show up in-game before they travel back in time later on
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
youtube.com
>protagonist spends entire game trying to stop the hero from unleashing hell on earth, wins at the end
>the sequel has the hero fucking up and unleashing said evil by accident?
Name a game.
My fucking NIGGA.
youtube.com
>Now wait just a second!
They have a kino discography every album is good. I still prefer the first one and Brain salad surgery.
>final boss is the literal first person you meet, your mentor, and wants you to win
>final boss is god
>it's just you and your waifu against her
>all your allies pop in and out during the battle, throwing everything they have against her
>you and your waifu finally finish off god with your strongest attacks combined
>Final bossfight has the Protagonist and Antagonist beating the shit out of eachother while having an argument about their ideologies, philosophies, and allegiances
name one game
>boss drops you to one HP
>starts casting slow attack that kills you
>paladin type party member appears and blocks the hit for you
I fucking love it
>along the game you fight monsters and recruit robots, monsters, and animals into your party
>final boss is just a regular human being
>Final battle devolves into a fist fight where the fighters are too tired and hurt to talk or try any strategy other than kill the other before he kills you
Danganronpa
>you were too late to fight the final boss and must continue
>final boss just wants to have a good time
>final boss is unsatisfying and easy
>add a new one later on
>even easier, but oddly more satisfying
>unmask final boss
>its a woman
>Final boss's theme has elements of the previous game's theme song incorporated in it.
>final boss keeps her mask on right to the end
>game suddenly gets eccentric and nuts during the final stage/boss
I love it when stupid crazy shit happens and everything goes bonkers for the climax
>boss is sleeping
>you lose all your powers at the start of the final boss
>earn them back one by one during the fight
>it culminates by you getting the ultimate power and curbstomping the final boss
>final boss music sounds pompous/dramatic
>a flamenco/electric guitar kicks in during the music.
Undertale. The fight with Sans was pretty kino.
post the lewd gif
>Taunts have hitboxes
Read Konjiki no Gash
Fire Emblem Warriors, even throughout the whole menu.
>fightin a war after being augmented to be a superweapon
>defect from your own side and become a free agent
>both sides getting desperate to end the war and start pulling out all the desperate stops with you in the middle
>you defeat both sides' super weapons and you take a nap
>wake up and shit's still fucked
>fight the protagonist and final boss from a different game back-to-back
>after you win, the title screen updates to reveal that this was a sequel the whole time
delicious
DOUBLEFIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE
>Final boss is the guy from the tutorial
>Final boss is yourself
Game/s, man, I must know
sora, a Shoot'em Up. Also surprisingly feels-heavy.
Suguri and Sora
youtube.com
>surprisingly feels-heavy
>I'm not defeated yet!
>grapples you
>I'm sorry...I can't make it back...
>pic related
>screen fades to white and a brief backstory given
>title drop as you plummet from the sky
pretty good stage 1
>final mission
>intense music shifts to piano rendition during combat
what if a game was made with all the stuff mentioned in here?
Funny thing is, I heard about Suguri and Sora thro 100% Orange Juice which, combined with the artstyle, made me think I was in for a memetastic romp. God was I wrong.
>intense music shifts to piano rendition during combat
I, Giorno Giovanna, have a dream
Retribution for the Eternal Night is a straight up remix of the title theme. The whole IN soundtrack is hype, but this one stands out to me.
youtube.com
>final boss shares its name with the title of the game
>protagonist and final boss throws away their weapons and start fighting hand to hand
>music get faster and more intense
World War II
Happens in most of the early 3D Sonic games. It got old by the 06 game.
Especially in metroidvania type games. Even in Other M with the Rhedogian which harasses you 4 times in the mid story and there's 2 more post-credits, but at the end you can kill one with a single Power Bomb.
>boss is normal human thats just highly experienced
No rematch against this guy but, I have to fight Orochi three times.
literally every mario RPG game
also A lot of cases in Phoenix Wright games where the prosecutors arguably take the role of the antagonist most of the case
>final level
>The end is the beginning
>boss fight has an emotional theme that completely changes the tone of the fights in the game
youtu.be
>1v1 at the end of the world
>final boss is some tall black dude in a jester's hat and some sorcerer lady that's barely wearing clothes
That seneschal fight can be quite a gamble as far as climax goes if you're online
>You can play as the rival character in NG+
>So you’ve come all this way and still understand NOTHING
>final boss theme
>violin gets stronger
I love Yoko job
>defeat final boss
>they yell something along the lines of "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST OF ME, PROTAGONIST! I'LL BE BE BAAAAACCCCKKK!"
It's generic and usually pretty cheesy but I can't help but enjoy it.
>final boss is quite literally you
>final boss theme is sinister/imposing for most of the fight
>suddenly becomes triumphant in the final phase
>final boss is a combined entity of the previous bosses
>final boss has a very tragic past and all they wanted as to be alone
>1v1 on top of a space station falling towards the planet
>boss is completely unable to fight back in their very last phase as you wail on them/kill them in one hit
Asuras Wrath
My nigga
Literally P4
youtube.com
>final boss is a gigantic space-station-turned-colossal-mechanical-laser-dinosaur
>the first half of his encounter is fighting him in FUCKING RE-ENTRY to the planet he was positioned over
If you can name the game before opening the spoiler, let ALONE name a single other game where this happens, I'll be impressed
>somewhat generic title actually contains the HUEG plot twist if you remove some letters
muh dick
>character is directly responsible for creating the macguffin that causes the entire game's conflict but he is nowhere to be seen other than a brief mention by his sister
>he was sealed away after his power became too great for him to control
>after a hellish gauntlet consisting of an instant-death pitfall, a corridor of raining rocks, an enemy gauntlet, and even a miniboss you make it to his throne room
>you fight him in the true-for-real best ending
>I've been waiting for this.
>For a person who will bring my magical fury to an end.
>Now...kill me, or
>I WILL KILL YOU!!!
>name a single other game where this happens,
Not word-for-word, but that's more or less how the Jerghingha Planet Destruction Form fight pans out in The Wonderful 101.
what game?
What game(s)?
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy and Braverly Default: End Layer
Bravely default
L Y I N G F A I R Y
Tranformers, either war or fall of cybertron, I forget which. I'm a huge TF autist, so of course recognized this just by description.
>Boss encourages you to do better
>villain is often a buffoon
>portrayed as serious as a heart attack
Thanks I love it.

Actually it's
Lying Airy
It also has an additional meta layer of meaning as it's a Square Enix game that drops the FF
Romancing SaGa 2's one of the most well-known examples of this.
That sounds stupid enough to actually be cool
>Defeat Xehanort and take back your body!
That didnt stop VLR from being shit.
This game had hype moments down for sure

>Doc Louis's Punch Out
>He's your trainer so he's telegraphing his stuff and telling you how to evade them and compliments you when you hit him correctly
>When he knocks you down, he asks "Learned your lesson yet?"
What a wonderful series revival this was. I almost can't believe it's been 10 years
"I gotta try."
It's WfC, the first one, my lad. Good taste. Your image reminded me of the kinoest moment in FoC [besides Metroplex's everything] and that's Biting Shockwave's arm off as Grimlock
I know.
>character is way past his prime
>can secretly get a glimpse of it
Knocking Doc's chocolate away is so god damn cool. I'd love to see Young Doc as a side story for a few fights in a new Punch out. Would be a great way for them to branch out a little on enemy boxer designs by going back a generation.
>Villain powered up to giant monster form for final boss with your whole party helping
>But then after beating that you fight him 1v1 as just a man

>Final Boss is too strong to be killed by normal means

>Game has that one single boss that's just a fucking wall
>Even the final boss doesn't compare to it
Fuck you Lao, you sad cunt
>Final boss of a long-running series has different phases referencing each previous game in the series.
>Villain thinks hero is defeated and starts walking away.
>Hero climbs back up to his feet and villain turns around shocked.
That alone is why I love that game so much
At least based Doug got his equipment back for me. Truly the most underrated party member.
it's has my favourite Gilgamesh appearance so I let some of the jank slip
Motherfucking Owl in Sekiro
You're pretty good.
>Main Villain: Impossible!
>villain yells "WHAT ARE YOU?!" as he starts losing the fight
>Phase 1 of the boss fight is some awesome music
>Phase 2 begins
>Lyrics kick in
Why did Sonic Adventure 1 do this in reverse? It drained away all the hype.
>it starts raining in the middle of the boss fight for no particular reason
lightning and thunder shows scene from old game
>boss starts charging up an attack with a fairly obvious telegraph
>makes your anus clench up regardless
>game has antagonists sorted by card numbers + suites
>ace of spades is high threat / VIP / crazy badass
>motorhead starts playing when you fight him
THE UNENLIGHTENED MASSES
It took me two whole fucking days for younger me to beat Seven Force. Never before I've been stonewalled into gitting gud this hard.
Dreamy Bower is objectively the best Mario and Luigi boss of all time. Prove me wrong.
I like how the best ending to Suikoden 2 is realizing you don't have to fight.
>Final boss theme has Latin/Not!Latin chanting that escalates
youtube.com
youtube.com
>Owl Mikiris you
Dark Bowser because of that fucking theme song. youtube.com
All of dark souls 1 lol
Huh? but the title was "As the fairy flies" which becomes "Airy lies". Is that a regional difference? I prefer this one, it flows better as a twist.
>boss has overly long death animation
>victory message still doesn't appear for a good few seconds even after the boss's death animation has ended
>When Nine-Tails starts drawing over your Celestial Brush techniques
>4 generals of the main villain
>Anus clenches when you see that stroke
>Realize it takes him a minute and a half just to draw an X
Kamiya really screwed up not having a hard mode for Okami
>medieval/fantasy game has a consistent 'authentic' theme for its music
>secret boss theme is a steel guitar shredding menacingly in minor key
fucking porn games, man.
youtube.com
I was overall disappointed with Sekiro but getting mikiri countered by Owl after doing a charged stab blew my dick off
Shovel Knight absolutely nailed this and have the enemies a lot of personality at once
I've heard that you can do this in Pathfinder: Kingmaker
YOU'RE GOING DOWN
youtube.com
>Boss uses perverted versions of your powers.
>Half way through the bosses ost switches to a triumphant mix of the main theme.
>If you perform perfectly the music synchronises with the action.
>youtube.com
>U N L I M I T E D C O L O U R S
>Announcer calls out all the wisps
>FINAL COLOUR BLASTER
Easy as hell as far as bosses go but damn if it wasnt hype.
Correct, but you cant romance anyone else even partially and i believe flirting counts.
>Boss walks slowly the entire battle
>Get his HP down
>He starts running
Surpised how many (including I) missed the fact his name was just Spider backwards.
>Boss walks slowly the entire battle until you break his restrictive armor, after which H-HAYAI!
not quite vidya, but close:
>character bounces between being an absolute goofball and a world-ending threat at the drop of a hat
who knew egghead had it in him to make a zombie apocalypse happen?
God, the entire last segment of LISA was too fucking kino
>every party member turns on you, except those that don't really want to fight you
>Plowing through an entire army
>Rando bossfight, who mirrors your skills
>the fucking choice to hug Brad
You don't understand
I've been dead for 35 years
Today is the day I live
>First quarter final boss has to be beaten with Gamebreaking ability
>DLC has him come back later as a neutral force
muthafuckin' WAR FOR CYBERTRON
Yeah too bad IDW Sonic is executed like shit
>fight a rival character several times as you play through the game
>he gets stronger as he goes through his journey just like you do
>fight him as at the very end when both of you are at you're most powerful points
>Protagonist has to pull some morally ambiguous shit that could very well ruin the lives of billions of people in order to defeat the final boss
>the protagonist of [GAME 1] is a post game boss in the sequel
OH MY FCKING GOOOOOOOOOOD
>game ends in a sad note
>screen fades to black
>game's logo appears in complete silence
>start to get the upper hand
>boss music turns into main theme
>final level/boss music is the main theme but with lyrics
Say what you will about FE Fates, but End of All is hype as he
>boss goes ape shit after you kill their friend
>Boss start off the battle walking extremely slowly in armor
>Phase 2
>Armor falls off
>Boss gets fucking fast
>Protagonist suffers always after the first games
>he always believed he was the hero too
>game ends on a sad note
>fades to black
>credits start scrolling
>suddenly interrupted by a character who reveals that it's still not the end
Dreamy Bowser's was better
fite me
>endgame of an RPG
>epic music plays
>it goes uninterrupted by random encounters
It is also a pain in the ass to get, and pretty much requires a playthrough specifically tailored to it. But you do get to crap on a fey equivalent of a god tho.
Post yourfavorite example
youtu.be
>top-tier bro characters get killed off throughout the game
>first dlc brings them back
>final dlc forces you to kill them yourself to defeat the final villain
X5 had a lot of bad moments but fight was fucking kino, if a bit too easy
SO YOU KNOW THAT WE'RE OUT THERE
>Instead of dying the final boss just gives up on their plans.
>Becomes a party member or playable in the sequel
Please tell which game
>that fake-out when you present the right thing and Mia shows up behind Phoenix
test
call of duty
Love this. Player gets all their bullshit thrown back at them.
Adding to that, it's also good when it's not random.
>hitman c/bm
>if you die you go into slow motion
>get 3 headshots to snap out of it and gain 1 hp back
>punch out wii
>if you keep mashing through the animation you will get back up with like 10% hp
>you can even do this twice rarely
>rival vs main villain boss fight
"YOU CANNOT DEFEAT MEEEE!"
i finally found what IIIIII WAS LOOOOKING FOR
LISA: The Painful is a masterpiece
The least said about Joyful, the better.
>antagonist joins your party
did it go ok user
>can romance the antagonist into your party
>every episode intro uses the same music which then cuts off and transitions into whatever music is appropriate for that episode's start
>Final Episode: The Adjudicator
>episode intro music doesn't cut off and becomes the map theme for the final battle
post more, I don't want it to end yet
>character's friend gets hurt
>character goes absolutely ballistic
>dinosaur's Japanese name is Dinosaurer
Nigga, like I didn't know you were talking about my boy Trypticon before I clicked the image.
>an evil character turns good and becomes a loyal friend to the heroes
>There's no option to kill him for his past misdeeds
The final battle between Snake and Ocelot in MGS4 does this for me, every time I tear up just a little.
>Protagonist manages to reach through and befriend the final boss moments before he dies
youtube.com
>final boss starts dancing in the final battle because he thinks that you are weak
>YOU CANNOT DEFEAT MEEEE!
Heard it in his voice!
What was her endgame anyway?
I need games, user.
Mercenaries?
Not for the boss, but all enemies in a dungeon run away from you if you've defeated the dungeon's boss in Earthbound, that is, all enemies but the rat enemies whose entire gimmick is that they deal shit damage but have a crazy high Guts stat which affects their crit rate. Those enemies keep attacking you no matter what, because they're gutsy.
>ace of spades is high threat / VIP / crazy badass
>protagonist's leaves his home at the end of the game
>takes the girl with him
The fucking GBA Crash Bandicoot game did that for some reason
>Protagonist cucks both antagonists
If you're on some other characters' romance, they'll have a couple of lines about giving up due to being cockblocked by her
Micchy deserved everything that happened to him because he caused it himself.
>Micchy deserved everything that happened to him
Fuck no
He didn't deserve to be redeemed. Little shit should have died like Kaito.
he still sort of got the short end
>last one with sengoku driver and HAS to protect everyone
Fighting the main villain early in the story.
>Normal ending is just escaping consecuences by killing your enemies
>Good ending is a happy outcome after severing the ties of destiny
>100%+ ending is the most realist one where you come to accept your own mortality and simply die after being inches away from happiness
Muramasa DLCs are brutal
Need some context on that webm, user.
>Dream's deep
>those Luigi thoughts
he's too pure
>boss starts tearing up
>gets stronger
>boss is a cute girl who just runs away when she starts to lose
>the final boss is the protagonist from the last game
Dream Team is the best man.
>final boss phase 1 theme is dark and dreary because it's essentially a hopeless fight
>phase 2 theme is more upbeat and a rallying cry because you didn't give up
Dream Team is a very good game but all those tutorials drag it down hard
>final boss in bravely second stops time and attacks you during menu selection
But the driver can be mass produced and fruit god can make more lockseeds for them. Takatora even gets a Genesis Driver back in Gaim x Drive.
Its my favorite Mario RPG next to 64 and TTYD. Honestly wish there was a mod that removed them, since it takes around 4-6 hours to get to the first real boss battle.
That shit caught me off guard first time I heard it, thought I was going nuts
I fully agree
imagine if Nintendo added the fast forward function from Paper Jam to Dream Team, it would make it more bearable atleast
i never fought for justice
>you start off as some lowly scumbag adventurer who wants to be the hero
>slowly the choices you make in order to protect everyone turn you evil
>boss theme has lyrics
I wish they added that in a update, this game is the only Mario & Luigi game with a hardmode after you beat the game, making you replay the game but since there's a lot of slow parts and cutscenes a fastforward button would be absolutely useful,I hope someone adds that with Homebrew or shit like that,I really love this game but it's slow and that's the only bad thing about it
>the protagonist starts off as a good person, but eventually snaps and only wants revenge
Honestly I would take a DT HD with those improvements. Although it makes me curious as to how the next M&L game will go since they've been improving on the flaws of the series from PJ-BISDX. A DT-like game with the QoL features of the recent remakes sounds godly to me.
>antagonist only becomes bad because of the protagonist's actions
new costume on already great character
>main menu theme plays at a climatic point before the finale
>That 4 kamek boss fight
>giant warning sign appears saying "ENEMY APPROACHING FAST DANGER"
>final boss appears
It can be either one on the title screen
>phase 2
>boss regains his composure, making him more deadly
>music reaches its crescendo
Ahh, you were at my side all along!
Chrono Trigger
youtube.com
>That 4 kamek boss fight not being in the arena along with Wiggler/Popple.
Its a crying shame really. I remember that Kamek fight being good.
Ludwig's theme is the best in the series, no one can convince me otherwise
youtube.com
Bonus points for actually being the best final boss theme in the series
my nigga
What games does this happen in besides Gen2 of Pokemon?
several sonic games
>All the different instruments coming together.
Expected, but was still great.
>kill an NPC
>"wow you're a monster"
>go back to previous save and spare them
>"I still know what you did"
Xenoblade Chronicles, Egil stalling Zanza, opening the path to Bionis Interior.
Xenoblade Chronicles X, Lao stopping Luxxar.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Jin freezing Amalthus.
Takahashi loves this trope.
>Final Boss theme has main theme of the sequel in it
>game has a timeskip epilogue showing where everyone is now
>antag's been clowning on you since the start
>you learn some super ultra fuck you technique
>you do the thing
>FUCK YOU MODE ACTIVATED
So go back and buy it if you feel guilty. I wonder how many people have done that - pirated a game, saw "Special Thanks - You" in the credits, felt bad, bought the game.
youtube.com
this is part 1 of 6
>song that plays every now and then in the game when hype stuff is happening
>final stretch/level
>suddenly has lyrics
i dont use this term lightly, but ghost trick was kino
>game has hidden lore found via collectibles
>attacks first
One of the only times I've actually stopped playing a game for a minute to just listen to overworld music.
>Guess we have no choice, we'll have to use "that", even if it's unstable!
>appears to fail
>get blown the fuck out
>get back up, glowing or otherwise transformed
>All non-HP resources become infinite
>real final music starts
>final boss theme is signed by it's perspective
>Epilogue has you control a character walking through several locations of the game to speak to NPCs and learn how things have turned out after the final battle
this is really specific but
>at the start of the game the main character wakes up to a condescending "good morning" from the secondary protagonist
>at some point the main character goes MIA and stays gone for the majority of the game
>near the end of the game the secondary protagonist is mortally wounded and falls unconscious
>when they regain consciousness to find themselves surrounded by monsters, the main protagonist shows up in the nick of time and gives them a cheeky "good morning", the story coming full circle
kino
Name it
>going back to the very beginning area lets you talk to the final boss
Persona 3
>final boss retires and lives a peaceful life after you defeat him
>V
>E
>R
>S
>U
>S
youtube.com
>boss was the good guy all along
>you were the villains
You must cum in your pants for fallout then .
>the first letter of every zone spells out a spoiler
the game is pretty much every kirby game
This. This is the best trope.
DMC5
>Dante: "You're just dead weight nero."
>End of the game.
>Nero: (After backhanding dante a significant distance away.) "You listen, dead weight."
All callbacks are fun, but some callbacks are just plain great, especially since his line was delivered so seriously for something he's been seething about for over a month.
>you are legitimately an unwitting bad guy and never realize even after the story is over
>character goes from cowering in fear to smiling confidently
>Last mission
>Mission: The Final Battle
>1 line description saying something to the effect of "This is it"
Kirby does this a lot, for example.
>villain/enemy squad shows up multiple times
>has a song that shares a leitmotif
Grabacr and Ofnir from Ace Combat 5 did this nicely
What game
Cave story has all but two of that
>boss heals you to full health to fight a fair battle
The game where you're a human in a world of monsters.
Where the goal is peace and coexistence.
Where there are 4 main bosses that later become your friends and help you against the god-like final boss.
Where you then travel through all the locations you visited to talk to all the minor and major characters before reaching the last location and ending the game.
Where you have a heartfelt conversation with the final boss, which then uses its powers to do a good deed before fading away in acceptance.
Where you can choose to kill or spare the reluctant ruler of the monsters who is burdened by the guilt of having taken human lives during a moment of anger and weakness caused by a loved family member's death at the hands of humans.
The one with the lesbian knight lady.
That's right. I'm talking about Monster Girl Quest
Nero is such a sour cunt in 5 holy shit, he never let go of "muh arm", "muh dead weight"
>game
dragon quest
DRAGON BALL Z
BUDOKAI TENKAICHI 3
Kreia
Well, I'd like to see you have your arm literally torn off by some random asshole who then goes on to fuck up a city for a month solid and not be a bit pissed off about the whole ordeal.
game?
That's the entirety of the Max Payne series.
>mc goes through tons of life-changing experiences throughout the game, learning shocking things about himself and his place in the grand scheme of history
>at the epilogue he gets asked if he felt he's changed in any way
>responds with "I'm way cooler now!"
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Berserk isn't primarily a game you fucking tard
>villain's sidekick inherits his power after the hero slays him
>this fucker is actually tougher and has a phase 2
>his silly demenor is now full on determination
name literally 10(ten) games
>game has mc with a naive view of the world and wants world peace
>NPCs throughout the whole game berate the mc for thinking like this
>game ends with the mc being more mature but still accomplishing his goal
Or even better.
>mc becomes a villain after everyone tells him that his goal for world peace is stupid
Yeah, I know him being the runt is his whole gimmick, but man he was just being a dense one this time around.
Dante obviously meant Trish and Lady were out and it was already bad enough keeping them safe while fighting Urizen, he didn't need a third body in the pile, especially knowing whose kid it would be and by whose hand. But instead of Nero grasping the context of danger to himself dragging down Dante's efficiency and helping V get the girls out he just starts making it worse by throwing a tantrum, for several fucking days.
His super late comeback also makes no sense since Dante dealing with Vergil for the umpteenth time is the opposite of dead weighting, it's him carrying his weight.
I get that losing the arm he'd just come to terms having was shocking and impeded hi devil hunting, but I really felt they could have gave him something better to whine over. Even though better spaced out, this felt like KYRIEEEEEEEE! 2.0, I hope DMC6 squares up the writing for him. He's always so one note.
STANDING HERE
I REALIZE
>mc keeps up a pretence of justice and morality
>the villains keep pointing out flaws and fallacies in his philosophy, hoping to break his spirit
>mc finally snaps but instead of being dissuaded, goes on an insane rampage through the enemies forces, now unshackled from any feelings of remorse or need for justification
>it's time for Jack...to LET HER RIP!
