EverQuest GMs and Guides used to do cool things all the time. Special events, lore dumps, officiate weddings, etc. Then Daybreak took over, fired Brasse, and ruined everything. Cant even get a GM to give you a dark elf surname anymore.

Basically I was playing SS13 on some server for newcomers and decided to fuck around there since I wasn't playing on that server, so no big deal If I get banned.
Started as HoP, and gave a sneaky full access to anyone, who was applying to a new job. After that I got bored and decided to depressurise the entire station, by dismantling windows. In the end, people started dying, and a bunch of chaos got stirred up, and the whole round turned from boring office work to a full-blown survival mode, where you can't trust anyone.

Surprisingly, while I was doing all of that as a non-antag, mods and admins were present on the server, and they didn't PM'd me once. And after a while I was reading the forums and people were saying that they had one of the most intense rounds that month.

So in conclusion I'd say that sometimes you must stir some shit up in order to make the game more intresting. At least so that it won't turn into cubicle simulator for 6 hours straight.

It's exactly true and in ss13 in particular, it's not uncommon for non-antag FUN to be the highlight of the round, especially if antags are going stealth and are competent (then nobody will ever know they were there and nobody will ever revive the victims, if applicable)..
Though that depends on other things as well: some communities are deep into RP or pseudo-RP and actually like the office job simulator aspect. That's fine too. Also, if you fuck shit up at roundstart, the antags don't have time to be boring and people don't have time to have their own fun which is also bad. Finally, joining in with antags shitting up the station is also not appropriate if they're doing a good job.

But if you're hop and going out depressurizing the station, you're doing it wrong - except if the antags aren't antagging. In that case anyone is free to take over the antag role for the reasons you mention. But if it's just general greyshirtery: the station, it's not fun.
