the effectiveness of the depressant ability mons depends entirely on weezing being kept alive and it has a glaring weakness to ground. it can also fuck over your own mons that depend on their abilities like the tapus. unironically balanced for vgc.

I can just imagine the Galarian Weezing with the Bong accent telling them all to get to work. Though speaking frankly, Weezing hasn't actually ever been competitively viable and will get virtually deleted by a ton of things especially now that it's missing Levitate. Maybe the meta will simply evolve to have designated Weezing assassins even if Weezing itself isn't played, but I don't think the list of pokemon who can do that is particularly small.

Presumably, Game Freak is deliberately cutting down the amount of original Pokemon made each generation to reduce potential bloat or just saving up the 1000th Pokemon slot for something more special, and so we just get regional variants to slow it down. Unfortunately this probably means we won't get another 'soft reset' like Gen V, since that was pretty much 150+ new Pokemon.

He has resistances to Bug(1/4), Fighting (1/4), Grass, Dark, and immunity to Dragon. However he's weak to Ground, Psychic, and Steel. He has trash special bulk so any psychic type that gets a hit on him will likely destroy him unless he's using a Sash or something. He's also no longer immune to Ground attacks due to not having Levitate meaning the multitude of Earthquakers will be able to easily damage him significantly. Regarding resistances, only the fighting resistance and dragon immunity are really notable.

His viability is probably more dependent on on the prevalence of ability-dependent pokemon usable in the generation to counter rather than the availability of Slaking, Regigigas, and Archeops to support. Basically you'd use him to fuck Prankster users and other notable abilities like Technican or Weather starters. His main weakness is any special attacker faster than Slaking, Regigigas, and Archeops(100, 100, 110 base speed). While it's not that low, it's not that high either. Alakazam for sure will fuck up his day.
