Of course it is. Love every Wipeout (although prefer F-Zero). Both are (for me, at least) dethroned by Redout. But every game has its charm, there are too few AG racings to be picky.
Yes!
Extremely. It's a straight port of HD Fury and 2048, both of which are great games in their own right. Very satisfying to learn to control the ships well, great track design, etc. I've platinumed it and I still go back to it regularly just because it's fun. Also it's easily one of the best games on PSVR too as it's a great fit for VR and is fully playable both in and out of VR and a great game either way.
IMO it's a must buy PS4 game, and if you recently got it on PS+ and that's why you're asking then absolutely yes go download it and play it.
It's basically perfect.
Wipeout is a series that killed itself because it reached perfection.
Hardcore Wipeout competitive fags broke down this game to the bone and it has such perfect balance and complex execution at higher levels you'll spend years to truly master it.
But BECAUSE it's perfect, it lost all the rough edges.
Why is wipeout 3 so loved?
Because it had tons of character, even tho it was rough and janky as fuck.
But since HD, then Fury and now this re-release, these games have reached technical perfection and absolute polish but in the process became completely aseptic.
They lost all flavor, they're this 100% polished white slab.
It's amazing, but it's also...boring.
That's why people still talk about Wipeout 3 or games like f-zero and such.
They're technically inferior, but also have characters to them, they're more gripping.
How's this?
It's the best arcade racer out there right now.
Buy ten copies so we get a proper new Wipeout by the resurrected Studio Liverpool team.
Yes, and fucking stunning if you have a PSVR.
Excellent but challenging. Can't say about ps4 but the PC version has no issues I'm aware of.

How are the Fast Racing games?
I was considering buying the newest one on the switch if it is fun.
I really enjoyed it. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd put it up there with the other modern Wipeout games. Obviously Omega Collection gives you better bang for your buck if you don't already own the games being ported though. Base PS4 has some pretty bad framedrops as well.
No. Play the classics if you want fun.
That drop on Sol really got me the first time i was playing VR
Also if any of you already have the game before this i still recommend grabbing the ps+ version since it has the Van Uber team dlc included
haha janky
I've never played a wipeout game before and I just got the omega collection off of PS+ and this shit is cash
Also van Über is my jam
People like the PS1 games because the handling is different
I still don't fucking understand why Sony shut down so many European studios that used to work with them back in the 90s and 2000s.
How is this different from fast rmx? Is there boosting or is there drafting mechanics
never played fast but the main gimmick here is that the antigravity stuff means you really have to anticipate corners early or you're going to go careening into a wall
I like it but I feel like the tracks are too small and cramped. My memories of the older Wipeout games are of long, open tracks with distinctive sections to them and all sorts of neat short cuts. Feels like they reduced the size of the maps for performance reasons, as I remember the graphics and frame rate being cutting edge for the original PS3.
Wipeout never sold particularly well. The modern era especially.
There's weapons allowing you to fuck up your opponents and you're essentially on rmx's hero mode with a shield bar that can get depleted by getting hit/ramming walls etc. If it drops to 0 you explode but you can regain shield by absorbing weapons
Based
>do mediocre online
>put on f zero music
>take 1st on 9 consecutive races against 7 other players
I just wish there was more tracks. I already played the hell out of Wipeout HD and Fury so i know those tracks like the back of my hand, the 2048 tracks are cool but there's not many of them and you can only race them in one direction.
Playing a track in first person mode on the highest speed with other people watching is fun though, especially when you can chain barrel rolls on tracks like Downtown. Its like being inside a washing machine.
I am disappointed that wipeout content has been recycled so much. I already owned all three games so the Omega Collection doesn't have much value to me.
It's pretty funny to think they're still using the same 12 and 14 years old tracks from Wipeout Pure and Pulse
I can only play this game in VR, without it I'm shit at judging distance to the wall in corners.
When the fuck are they adding DLCs with all the other tracks in the series???
"Omega Collection" My ass, even though it's literally a remake of a remake of a remake, it still has less than half the tracks of Pure, less than half the tracks of Pulse, and NONE of those of W1, 2, 3 or Fusion.
I fucking want shit like Silverstream, Devilia and Paris Hair in HD!!!
it's not funny it's disappointing
Guess you'll have to wait for WipEOut 4.
If I ever have to race on Chenghou Project again I'm going to very politely call Sony on the phone and demand that they close the Playstation division down forever. I hated that track on the PSP and I still fucking hate it now.
Well, at least Ballistic NG got made. F-Zero fans should get together like that too, only way there will be a new game is if they make it themselves
Correction;
"It didn't sell well by American standards"
Of course it didn't. Europe has a multitude of cultures and languages with a nuanced appreciation of art formd through philosophies and histories that separates it heavily from the US.
To justify shutting down studios that employ artists and VFX teams because they don't suck up to the economic mindset of a conglomerate giant like America is extremely unfair.
>check online lobbies

>c class
Do you all hate going fast or something
Europe is a PC dominated market, no console company really gives a fuck about European habits.
It sold poorly by everyone's standards and millionaire/billionaire executives don't give a care.
Sony was developing some of the best racers with Motorstorm, WipeOut, ModNation, GT. Obviously the gamble to build reputation on racing games ultimately failed. GT is the only brand they have left and it's the only one that makes a dent in European markets, so for a continent that supposedly "appreciates art" they sure like a game where the focus is on boring realism and praising real-life car brands as they jerk off to a Tesla or BMW.
wow user, what a lazy excuse.

how long would i have to play for before i can get this good?
Until a new F-Zero gets made this is the best alternative
wipeout and fzero are complementary
If you can beat one of the A+ challenges in 2048 on gold then you've got the required amount of mechanical skill to get as good as that. You need to polish the fuck out of your racing lines in time trial mode and pick a ship and stick with it then.
wipeout plays nothing like f-zero
thanks user
what ship is he using in that video? it looks really cool but i don't think i've unlocked it yet
AG-Systems speed.
You probably have unlocked it, that guy's using the mirror-finish livery you get for beating the game.
Of course!
I used to play this game on my PSP when i was Younger, i aways loved this game
Compared to what? Fucking Super Mario Bros.? It's about the closest analogue we have.
There are plenty of great futuristic racing games and they all have pretty different handling models. Fast RMX, Redout, Star Wars Ep 1 Racer are other great examples for starters. The fact is that none of them handle very similarly to each other at all. Hell nu-wipeout doesn't even feel much like ps1 wipeout.
No it isn't. Mario Kart would be the better fit. Wipeout uses items on shortcourses with constant turns. Just like Mario Kart.
It's ok, gets boring pretty quickly
Hot tips: Turn the motion blur off on PS4 Pro for native 4k. Crank your HDR contrast to maximum before playing Zone mode.
is there any way to turn off the fucking bloom?
>Europe only appreciates realism
>Does a better job keeping 2D animation alive than the US
>modern Wipeout soundtrack
Yuck.
I just use spotify desu
God i hate chenghou project
>turn off the soundtrack
>put on a random 90s spotify playlist instead
>youtube.com
Wipeout tracks were always very narrow compared to AG racers, if anything tons of tracks in Omega are actually wider than anything you'd find in the classics. You probably remember the low speed classes only instead of rapier/phantom stuff
That final barrel roll into the turn. He landed it, holyshit!
>using turbos to force a take off so you can barrel roll off it
Holy shit
The Sol drop is fucking amazing, makes me lose my footing and drop every time.
Yes but only on PS4
Please, PC now
You HAVE gotten all gold medals on hard mode, right Yea Forums?
It's like the sole time i have ever gotten nauseous in VR, pretty crazy
I only played wipeout fusion, which apparently wasn't well liked, but I really enjoyed the open tracks. They were definitely longer than in HD.
>Redout
>Pacer/Formula Fusion
>BallisticNG
NONE of them compare to wipeout sadley, I hope one day to get the pc vr version
Ballistic is literally wipeout though
Imagine owning a Piss4 but not the best game for it
I thought Redout was great actually.
Ballistic is a little bit better than Wipeout
>the best game on ps4 is a vita port
lol?
Redout does its own thing, I dont like it much but its not like Formula Fusion which is just a mediocre Wipeout. BallisticNG is near perfect though, better than actual Wipeout games.
Fusion is the odd one in the series. Track design and handling are so unlike anything else in the series that I'd sooner compare it to Podracer.
Redout isn't so much anti-grav racing than steering a speeding bullet. As much as I love Wipeout, I think I enjoy Redout more.
>Until a new F-Zero gets made
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....
Not a fan of most of the tracks but it was a phenomenal moment for the controls to start making sense on my 3rd race, only for "invaders must die" to kick in full blast.
How the fuck do I unlock ships in 2048?
Also is it just me or is the ship selection in 2048 really limited compared to hd?
(Never played before omega)
It's fine, it's a collection but it updates all of them to use the newest engine and physics and stuff, so it's kind of awkward if you played the older games and were used to their quirks. Not exactly a bad thing though.
