Uzuki is basically doing her job as a Reaper. If she doesn’t Erase Players then she’s the one who gets Erased. Beat and Neku pretty much understand this due to seeing the effects of what not Erasing Players would do to you, like slowly Erasing Beat from existence.

I consider it an "interesting" way to replay the game if you've already played the original on DS. It's also not actually awful, just so very clearly a step down from the DS version and missing all those details the dual screen presentation provided. Boss balance also got kind of messed up from the conversion where some were made easier (Giant Bat just works in phases where you switch to the partner in the rafters and Neku's no longer a thing for the phase) or even made harder (Uzuki and Kariya both on the same screen fighting you at the same time can be as frustratingly chaotic as it sounds)

Keep in mind the real best way to play Final Remix is docked with co-op on so that you control both characters with a different joy con to keep that sense of teamwork and multi-management. It still doesn't hold up to the DS version but if you don't have the means to play it on a DS system then this is a "good enough" substitute. If you do have access to the DS version, have already played it and just want a new version to play then give it a cautious consideration I guess? I'd just still recommend DS for a first playthrough if that's an option to you.

I wanted to hate it going in, but I still got just as hooked as I did playing the DS version. You ultimately have to play undocked to get a good experience, the motion controls are laughable, and the touch input isn't as solid as the DS. However it does have some upsides, they removed mingle mode for pin evolution so it's a hell of a lot easier to evolve pins and alot of the remix songs are pretty badass.

Far warning that the additional scenario is only 3 hours long and offers nothing but questions and hype that might never see the light of day. Ultimately the remix is just a hype tactic to try and get people onboard for a sequel. Which may or may not happen.

I think the context also helps out with that. Neku is constantly shown with his headphones on and if you leave him on idle, he’ll actually start jamming out to the music. Hell, you can even buy the music in-game. Essentially, the reason the game’s soundtrack is the way it is is because we’re just listening to Neku’s favorite artists.

I loved the aspect. The songs felt like actual tunes that you would listen on a radio and it helped made Shibuya feel more alive. Reminded me of Jet Set Radio in that aspect.

Yeah, the river is shallow as shit flowing through an artificial riverbed though. The "basement" is huger than in the game if I recall.

Also Cat Street is named so because there used to be a park around there that was always full of cats so the locals just came to use that name for the street.

I want to pick up an original DS again to play it on. Can play it fine on my 3DS but the sprites always come out blurry and I don't know how to fix it. Always hated forced smoothing.

IIRC, you can press SELECT or START from the Home menu while loading the game to play DS games in their original resolution.

Well Akihabara is a tech haven instead of a fashion mecca like Shibuya, right? So instead of a player pin, participants use their phones to scan for Noise, and instead of being able to scan people's thoughts, you can scan recent messages they've made on a universal messaging app like LINE. You could work in themes about the role technology plays in individuality and trends and how these day's someone's phone is almost an extension of their thoughts. Instead of pins, you use psyches via your phone's contact list on the messaging app. This is why most players have a small list of psyches they use reliably, but the protagonist can use almost any psyche. Fusions would be the contact details of your partner. Players can make new contacts while in the Reaper's Game because despite them being dead, their phones are still alive, unlike in Shibuya. The protagonist could even get contact details from store clerks once they reach a certain level of friendship with them. Noise and psyches could have more of a manga aesthetic than the graffiti style present in Shibuya's Underground. You could have the missions take place at night instead of during the day, and maybe even have the option to visit Shibuya's UG between the night missions in Akihabara.

I haven't worked out all the details like how contact details would develop differently to pins, if brands should be replaced with something else, If it should be the classic 7 days, and if entry fees should still be a thing, but I like what I have so far.

Well the thing about brands in Shibuya is that they're more like styles, no brand is really competing with any of the others for looks, they're all different. If there was another brand out there that looked similar to Natural Puppy, then the style getting popular would mean more sales for both brands.

Ultimately the message of the game isn't that brands are important, but as the Prince says to Mick in Week 3: You need to find the style that suits you, wear what you want to wear. That's how to be trendy.
