Metroidvania Thread

Disscuss about your ideas for a new metroidvania.
Also, I have a question. Are procedural "metroidvanias" real metroidvanias?

Perhaps you should start by posting a real one, instead of shitstained: ritual of the shit

They're a variant, sequence breaking is such a

Extremely low quality post. Ban yourself if you have dignity.

>metroidvania
It's an action platformer with exploration

I hope we don't have to wait more than a few years for a bloodstained sequel, haven't played anything on its level since the DS castlevanias

Miriam's feet!

>real metroidvanias
Who cares. Ultimately they're all pretty boring.

>new metroidvania
I've been thinking about this, but I haven't managed to come up with a system that isn't inferior to the dual-card system from Circle of the Moon or the soul system from Aria of Sorrow.

My ideas cap out at "Have 3 characters you select in unconventional ways like leaving with area with the default protagonist, who have intertwining paths", which is pretty weak.

Correct, but metroidvania is just so much catchier I don't see it disappearing anytime soon.

Bloodstained was the first metroidvania I played and I loved it, is there another one with as much variety as Bloodstained? As in several weapons and skills.

Hollow Knight perfected the genre so I see no reason to play or discuss other games.
Just wait until Silksong is released.

user Bloodstained is a spiritual sequel to Symphony of the night. Play that and you will love it. And after that, play Aria of sorrow

Bloodstained is a good game that turns to hot dogshit after the Gebel fight. In fact, after hidden desert there isnt a new enemy or location that isnt completely reskinned.

Also, den of behemoths was going to be a casino zone but they blew the budget and got the interns to take over by just going 500% zoom on an earlier zone.

Its a shame, the first half was solid.

Do they have lots and lots of skills similar to the shards? That was my favorite thing in the game

Shard mechanic is a rip off mechanic from Aria's Soul collecting. You will have a lot of fun.

The Sorrow games do.
Honestly. Skip SotN for now and play Aria of Sorrow first. Then Dawn of Sorrow.
Then you can go back and play Symphony of the Night.

You'll probably love Aria. Give it a go.

I'll try it then, thanks

Have fun.

Nah, level design is too important in a proper metroidvania for a randomly generated thing to be considered a good one. Dead Cells is a great game, but it's no "roguevania".

A Robot Named Fight proves that the idea can be done well. It's probably not a superior alternative to a set level design, but it's a competently made game anyway.

Redpill me on pic-related. It holds the price, never goes on sale. At least Steam version.

how about Monsterboy?

Imagine the smell

I mean I like Hollow Knight too but the game isn't perfect.
It's up there but there are some other good Metroidvanias out there.
And before anyone says, no, Dark Souls isn't a fucking Metroidvania you soulsborne brainlets.
