There is a simple explanation for this.
Its a Japanese developer.
Japan has much higher salaries than most of the games on that list when it comes to Game development.
So despite raising 5 million the people working on it take a bigger cut for working on it.

But despite all that its still a good game.
I had a ton of fun playing it on hard difficulty.
Its nowhere near as good as SOTN but its def among the best GBA/DS metroidvenias.

I haven't finished it yet, but based on what I've played so far I think I prefer it to SotN, but then I've never been that into SotN. SotN is definitely better in terms of atmosphere, but I've been having a much better time just playing Bloodstained, and I think I'd say the level design is on par with SotN, if not better than it. I doubt I'll end up preferring it to AoS by the time I'm done though.
