Without this mechanic race turns into snoozefest, you just build your advantage and drive alone

watch Takumi vs Keisuke

its time to graduate beyond arcade racers

>user says that
>watch him drive
>they actually aren't and just using a good
line and timing
>user is all over the place

>RPG boss gets multiple turns in a row
>there's no mechanic in the battle system for getting multiple turns in a row

>opponents ignore obstacles and pitfalls when not in view of the player and aren't affected by terrain effects
>opponents get powerups even when there are none near them
>opponents get whatever powerup they desire even if the game rules and their placement would preclude them from getting it
>opponents suffer little to no ill effects when they are hit with powerups that slow or stall
>opponents have laser guided accuracy with powerups
Mario Kart basically defined all of these shitty behaviors and it infects any racing game that follows its formula

I felt like I was the only person growing up who just found racing games boring. It's like FIFA every single racing game has the same basics to it.

The bosses in Diddy Kong Racing that took off running before the race even began pissed me off so bad.

and still the ai in mario karts are so easy it's impossible for me to lose?

>boss has arbitrary 'fuck you' triggers that result in a party wipe if you do whatever arcane bullshit the encounter designer didn't want you to do
SMT games are obnoxious to play because of this.

>Game gives you the ability to drain MP from enemies
>It doesn't matter because enemies don't cast from any kind of MP pool, or just have infinite MP

I fucking love Persona 4 but I have no intention of ever fighting Margaret. I know my limits.

>Final boss is the only who can use health recover items
>Normal bosses can't but they still drop health items

>Play RPG as an assassin
>have backstab mechanic
>doesn’t work on any bosses

WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT THEN

>"realistic" racing game
>you start last
>everyone is faster than you even though you have the same car
>they rubberband if you get an advantage
>no "boost" mechanics
>cutting corners is punished
>hitting others is punished
>others hitting you is not punished
>hitting others displaces you
>others hitting you displaces you
What's the fucking point then? Where's the fun, where's the gameplay? Why not just make a time trial game where you blindly follow racing lines?

>game has instant kill mechanics
>every single enemy from first area onwards is completely resistant to instant kills

>racing game
>best car in the game is an Opel

digimon hackers memory really did this with everyboss

Recommend me something

are you talking about juiced? i remember the biggest fuck you in the game was if they hit you you have to repair your car afterwards and if you hit them they shit talk you make you pay for BOTH cars and your relationship meter with them goes down

yeah, how dare I get a huge lead as a reward for my skill

>racing game
>every car drives neatly behind the next car
>no one tries to get past each other
>if it weren't for you, it would look just like some neat driving exhibition instead of a race

The AI getting away scott free is cheap but racing AI is dumb and isnt capable of reacting to your lines and playing smart like a real human can. Other than that those penalties are completely fucking warranted, you shouldnt cut or hit others especially in anything realistic, thats just shitty gameplay and ruins the races for everyone involved. Games teaching you to actually play well and think about when and how you pass other cars is great.

>racing game or even any free-for-all game
>every single CPU opponent's mission is to shit on you as much as possible rather than playing to win

>sim racing game
>ai can actually do mistakes too instead of just driving a predetermined lap time average

Why would you care about showing off your skillz to a bunch of AI? I know Im skilled and would rather the AI cheat to constantly provide a challenge and make races more dynamic, instead of passing everyone and being bored the rest of the "race". If you care about just showing off skills thats what time trials are for, and there you have no time to get bored because every ms of gameplay is a chance to shave off a bit of time.

There's such a thing as having a good start. It depends on how you accelerate, it's a huge part of drag racing and it's also why modern cars have launch control. It even inspired mechanics like the boost start in mario kart.

Sorry, brainlets. Maybe try learning about the games/genres you play.

>currently in 3rd position
>don't even see the two AI in front anymore
>think about restarting the race, there's no hope
>suddenly see them on the side
>they crashed into each others
>finish first

They don't teach jack shit, none of the games that have the shit I mentioned actually tell you how you're supposed to get ahead when just following the racing line gets you bumped off the track by the dumb AI, and trying to get by only gets you punished. If the guy that started first and got ahead of the pack gets far enough since he was unimpeded by the jumble, there's literally nothing you can do to pass him because even if you drive perfectly and follow the line, he's doing the same thing, but half a mile away from you.

Is Midnight Tune 5 any good? I really like the OST

>one of the better cars ends up being one nobody would expect

Attached: getty_140532838_371979.jpg (970x450, 78K)

Drive better, faggot. That's the whole point. If you drive laps faster, no matter how further ahead the other guy is, you close the gap.

I also wish I didn't have to actually play the games I play, such a chore

>computer character can do moves that you can't do when you can use the same character

I know this is standard practice in RPG's where an enemy joins your side but I know I've played a couple fighting games where this happens too. I don't mean boss characters being rebalanced for player use either, I mean just a normal character but under AI control they can do shit that you flat out can't do.

Attached: 4bcfc6d29ed971700bb640c18ab7c1e5.jpg (335x250, 13K)

Can you wrap your head around the concept that two guys who drive perfectly but start 50 meters apart will end the race 50 meters apart. On the hardest difficulty (which are the only ones worth playing in racing games) the first guy makes NO mistakes, except he also has the advantage of not being battered and slowed down by the pack.

Yet to play a single game where the AI drives perfectly, there is ALWAYS time to be saved if you practice the course and optimize your braking points, nail the perfect slip angle and so on. Though obviously if you fuck up enough or get unlucky there comes a point of no return, that's how racing works. Even bullshit racers like Mario Kart where first place gets harrassed with blue shells have that point

>game has a manual and automatic mode for positioning and getting in range for attacks
>manual is largely superior but if you use the manual mode you can't adjust your position mid-combo
>automatic can

Attached: 1561971360900.jpg (2130x1200, 305K)

>Can you wrap your head around the concept that two guys who drive perfectly
False premise, unless the AI is consistently pulling theoretical perfect world record times, its not even close to perfect. Most likely it has completely mediocre times that can be crushed by any competent player.

No AI in the history of mankind drives perfect, user.

Imagine being so pathetic you are forced to imply the only reason you can't win is because your opponent is literally unbeatable.

>AI is a distance away, and out of sight of the player
>goes in to a "on rails" type mode and is therefore impervious to everything and is going full speed constantly, making catching them difficult
I understand Carmageddon doing this to save memory back in the day, and because you couldn't really "lose" a checkpoint race in that game, but FUEL had no excuse. I hate it because I otherwise really like the latter game for how exciting it is on a few of the races.

>AI control they can do shit that you flat out can't do
This will never not piss me off.
>AI moving towards you
>suddenly chains several attacks that each require holding AWAY from the opponent for a length of time
I get that it's possible to cheat the system in some circumstances, but the bullshit AI being able to just pull attacks out of its ass is awful.

that or because the AI doesn't even acknowledge your existence and will literally be the one to initiate collisions

Midnight club 2 is my favorite racing game but the ai is really aggressive and bashes you off the road if your close to them.. never seen that in any racing game yet.. kinda neat actually

>final boss just has the power to randomly stop time and deal damage to you

racing in this game was not fun, when the focus was the actual takedowns in road rage it was fantastic

Hahahah big nigger

Not charge attacks but the same shit, computer ignores the recovery. At one point it does a 3 hit combo with them.

>boss have infinite potions and just spam it each turn. You are now in an infinite loop in which you can not get more life than it recovers and you have no choice but to restart the console.

F-zero GX

>whatever arcane bullshit the encounter designer didn't want you to do
>SMT
The only "arcane bullshit" the encounter designer didn't want you to do was not to level up, useless. Get to grinding.

This shit was excusable years ago, but AI has no reason to be this shit at this point.

Lot of racing games have the ability to turn this off now. Even the ones in the arcade.

>repair car
There was no such mechanic tho?

Attached: 1565770962463.webm (1000x562, 1.94M)

Yet another reason Dirt 2 was so good, harder difficulties just made them really good yet fair drivers.

>Game has potions with various effects besides damage
>you can apply any potion to weapons
>if the potion isn't a damage potion, it doesn't actually do anything to the NPC you inject it into

Attached: rum.jpg (980x749, 50K)

>equip gear that nullifies boss' attacks like an intelligent person
>boss instantly kills you for it
Why is it in the game then?

Attached: 1435467821348.jpg (163x163, 11K)

Why are niggers so subhuman?

What's the cracker trying to accomplish here? As long as he doesn't get the niggers to stop this is useless. And while we're at it what are the niggers doing? Do they like it dirty or something?

DEAD GIRL KEK GIRL HISTORIA'S GOT EREN'S SEED

>AI players dodge rolling and flipping in timesplitter

>Large HP Sponge enemy has an AOE Stun and a AOE Staggering attacks
>Two of them can chain their attacks to forever stunlock you.

Looking at you Third Age.

can someone give some context?

>playing a jrpg
>normal mode is too easy
>hard mode gives bosses 6 turns before any of your party members can move even once
Great

>articles saying the new need for speed won't have any lootboxes
After Activision pretty much pulled the same bait and switch stunt with CTR, I don't buy that for a second.

>racing game
>you get hit by other car
>you get a time penalty because of that

Attached: 1565956094796.jpg (640x694, 268K)

It'll just have a fuck ton of DLC or even be a F2P game where you have to buy the cars you want or grind for hours to get in game currency.

>be kart racing game
>add in blue shells or equivalent

Why are blue shells/warp orbs a thing? Why are lightning clouds/clocks a thing?

As much as I love CTR, I do like in Sega and Sonic All Stars Transformed how a majority of obstacles you could dodge by boosting to evade it and it didn't overly punish you for being in 1st.

this is the reason why every racing game since underground 2 is shit.
i want to start with a shitty car and improve it bit by bit so i can do races against opponents with better cars and work my way up to the best cars available. fucking ki cheats and rubberbanding ruin every sense of progression.

Name one SMT game.

Demi-fiend has some retarded ass rules.

Underground 2 absolutely has rubber banding.

>Turnbased game
>Whenever you surprise enemies that were in fow they get an instant free turn to move into cover, interrupting your current turn and often going into flanking positions

>Furthermore, the protagonist can equip any Personas that void her attacks, though equipping accessories that shield from her attacks will result in Margaret killing off all characters instantaneously.

I said SMT game, tard

>game has a crazy (((in-depth))) combat system that is still showing tutorials 30 hours into the game
>basically half the systems are pointless as any given mob dies quickly, and a subset of those systems might only apply to super bosses late game
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 did not need half the shit it had

Attached: 1565416287916.jpg (245x303, 28K)

Which systems are you talking about in XC2?

In my 120 hour playthrough I never once had to worry about or care about Seals. Why are they in the game?
