i've heard that leveling is annoying as a warrior, but i would be doing most of my leveling with a friend who is either going holy priest or shaman so it shouldn't be as horrible. my primary concern is the endgame. i do not have a guild lined up. i'm between warrior and mage, and i would value the opinions and advice of those more experienced than me.

if you have a healer buddy with you, your warrior experience will be smooth. mage can level faster solo. guilds will probably be more likely looking for mages over warriors, but both are relatively common so expect competition either way. it's easier to be a good mage than a good warrior

Going paladin because I like the simplicity, aesthetic, and healing. Low level tanking is also fun, though speccing in Holy for Concercration is kind a bit scuffed. All in all, I'm pretty hype, it's been a long, long time I've played a vanilla paladin. The thought of helping and supporting others is just fun for me, and let's be honest here, Uther the Lighbringer was a cool, cool man.

You can absolutely find a guild where you will be DPSing for 90% of the fights in 40m raids. Warrior DPS is top tier.

However, you will absolutely be hated by everyone both inside and outside your guild if you refuse to tank 5/10-mans (you do not have to be prot spec to tank these, just have a shield). There's nothing more hilarious or sad than seeing a Warrior 'LFG tank' or having a warrior whisper a group that already has a tank warrior in it asking for a spot. Would rather invite a Ret or Enhance just out of spite.

Don't think about your spec as "playing fury". Fury is just your endgame pve dps spec, while arms is your pvp spec. Even if you might think fury is the dual wield spec, dual wielding in general is somewhat shitty when leveling, since you lack both hit and weapon skill your offhand just misses or deals shit damage most of the time, so you end up using a 2h weapon anyway. A lot of people tend to go arms for sweeping strikes at lvl30 and moral strike at lvl40, because they are useful in both pvp and pve. While fury would give you access to death wish and enrage, bloodthirst sucks dick when you don't have good gear because it scales off attack power and not weapon damage.
No matter your spec you can tank 5man content as long as you don't wear leather and perhaps have a shield if your healer is shit.

I have never played wow, some friends from FFXIV really want to try it with me so I'll try classic but I don't know what should I go with. They want to go Horde so I guess I'll get and undead either priest or mage, what you guys think of that for someone that has never ever played WoW

I'd say priest, yeah respec is expensive when you get to 50g a pop, but priests can farm really well in some instances and you can earn 50-100g an hour if you get really efficient/lucky at farming, or using your professions.

On top of that, shadow priest spec can still easily heal 5 man content without needing a respec, and if you eventually get into a raiding guild they might even cover your respec one way (Which is what mine did way back in the day)

Bonus points if they decide you get to keep up the shadow defbuff as a healing priest so you get to throw in a mind blast every now and again to keep you from wanting to blow your brains out during raids. Also mind control people off cliffs and into lava to fuck with their repair costs

I had a similar problem, especially since there's gonna be five million warriors and I've already played a bit of druid on pservers, but tanking is easily the most engaging thing for me in MMOs and after running a few dungeons in the stress test I found that it was pretty much going to have to be warrior or bust.

30/0/21 shaman is fine, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Raids are easy and do not need to be min-maxed. Additionally the difference in healing between a deep resto shaman and hybrid shaman is tiny. Deep resto is never worth it, healing with enhancement talents for more autoattack damage is optimal.

Knowing jap programmers and how bad they are with making tools it's probably a technical issue which makes it very difficult to remodel armor sets for a slightly different body shape than standard human.

I never liked asymmetrical pvp because it always bites you in the ass. You're highly unlikely to pull off a 2v1 or 3v1 especially if your guard is down or you're low level so it just turns into you getting killed over and over again for as long as the enemy wants. I just don't see the point in punishing yourself when you could be doing other things that you ACTUALLY want to do. Love battlegrounds though, team pvp is great.

To be fair locks aren't that strong early in the game.They honestly need a shit ton of gear to not get dabbed on by Warriors/Rogues/Hunters.
Also they are extremly pet reliant,you honestly need a Succubus for Rogues/Warriors in BGs.You can't sacrifice your Void non stop and unless it is about 1v1s,the fellhunter is nearly always better.
It honestly sucks to play in smaller BGs,unless you have healer up your ass.Because Warriors will just train you(even worse when they have Paladins) and against Rogue you die in the stun rotation,unless you are SL or have a Succubus.
It just sucks that you are so pet reliant against,certain Classes.When you have the wrong pet you will lose hard against some matchups.

Yeah I can see why,but I think you have to turbo grind with a shit ton of food/drinks.
When you have the Void out,after a certain level you generally have 0 downtime.If you don't pull to much and use your spells correctly,you don't go oom or need health.
The only time you really struggle is when your Void hasn't demonology talents(better taunt/health/spells),also often your Void can go oom,even when you taunt manually to save mana.

I just think the Void is just to safe and good,unless you leveled a Warlock multiple times to 60 and truly know the best routes/strategy.Also Sacrifice is huge if you overpull,free casting and a giant shield.
But I can say why speedrunners might just take the Imp,I wouldn't recommend it for anyone else though.You are just asking to die over and over,if you don't know the Class extremly good.

When I do finally hit level cap, I'm going to prep some characters to twink at multiple level brackets, specifically 29, 39 and 49 though.

It's going to be glorious. Have fun burning through your hype by rushing to end game though only to find that there's nothing to be had there in phase 1. Flying mounts are a mistake. Lfr is a mistake, a gold tax to respec is a mistake, and awful quest item drop rates are bad.

I know there is some argument against this because somehow players who don't have the end game gear can transmog to it. I don't understand this. I'd rather have a guild of dressed in a set of consist looking greens and blues than a patchwork of T2, T1, and resistance gear.
Longer dungeons are great.
The more complex raid fights are better than the endless waves of tank and spanks with CC sometimes involved.
Class quests to get a weapon, special spell, or ability are fun.

But no, we can't have what's good from both since too many people clump the good new features with the core issue of retail becoming a single player game that has pve and pvp content for high end players.

If I was in charge, I'd make it so you have two specs you can freely swap between and then make it free to change the talent point allocations when you go to your trainer.

At lv 35 or so you can get max rank Illumination, a talent that refunds 100% of the MP cost of a healing spell, if it crits. Divine Favor is a 2min cooldown that guarantees a crit on your next heal, so while there's some synergy there, the real value is in healing/spell crit gear and +intellect which also increases spell crit. Crit heals being free is a big cost reduction overall

I disagree since I found myself enjoying the adventure again when I was playing a pserver. I was doing almost the same things I did before and was having a lot of fun until the server was shut down.

Only doable every 3 minutes when PoM is available.
Ele shamans can always do good burst at range if they aren't immediately attacked.

A simple Lightning bolt + CL combo can be fired off very quickly and hits basically at the same time, with a followup Earth shock that's a minimum of 2k+ with shit gear and no crits.
No cooldowns or special circumstances needed.

Show me how a mage without cooldowns can do the same without having a nova setup, the time to cast a full length fireball or being close enough for CoC/blastwave.

Btw, elemental shamans can get +11% lightning bolt and chain lightning crit chance from talents alone.

I think lord of the rings online had a feature where you had gear slots and then cosmetic slots. You still had collect and keep the gear you wanted to keep for cosmetics and I don't remember anyone having issue with that, then again, LOTRO had a hugely dominate rp population.

Most raiders I knew just copied the suggested best raid spec since it wasn't worth testing things out due to the gold tax. And my pvp and raid friends were constantly poor.
