Normally I would suggest playing along simply because first two games on NDS have great atmosphere but are kinda hard to get used to after experiencing quality of life improvements from later games. 3ds remakes have ruined balance somewhat (in Untold 2 especially, enemies have buffed hp to insane levels with intend to stay on par with possible damage output which means you are severely punished if you dare to run non-optimized party).

There's really nothing in common between EO Landsharks and Landsknechte, I guess the localizers just wanted something fancier than swordsman (or warrior, since they also use axes).

It's not that interesting, EO's world looks like generic fantasy land but it's actually post-apocalyptic Earth. Doesn't really matter much because the games have barely any story.

I already did, it's not very long and I wouldn't say official, even if it was licensed by Atlus. For example no one ever calls gunner Manari. Fun fact though, the EOU 1/2 artbook had a little bonus chapter, and there was a quest that referenced it: it was the one were a guild wanted help killing those bird FOEs in the 4th stratum, you get a gunner girl waving at you when you finish it.
