I picked up SamSho on release day and I've grown bored of it, so I've been learning games with a faster pace. The SFA games are pretty fun I guess

why do they make 2D fighters 3D, just to have 2D mechanics and camera angles?

Played smash with a buddy a lot today, but E.Honda in sfv and kyoshiro being worthwhile now in samsho have been demanding my attention. I want to play SC6, but the others just have been trumping it.

Oh, so that's where that smell was coming from.

It's called 2.5D and the reason why they're doing this is because making detailed sprites takes 5000000000000 million years, and they don't sell enough to counterbalance the time, money and effort put into them.

SNK tried to stay 2D only for years and it kept them to near bankruptcy for a decade or more.
So they recently went "fuck it" and switched to 2.5D.
Cheaper and faster to work with 3D models.
I don't like it, but i understand why it's a thing.

higher detail for lower cost. most "2d" fighters these days are just rotoscoped from 3d models anyway

Been having a hankering to lab lately. Been bouncing between FighterZ (Janemba is fun and I was refreshing/reworking stuff with Zamasu/Jiren), Akatsuki Blitzkampf (maining Kanae but Adler is more fun to lab), Ultra Fighter Da Kyanta 2 (such a fun game, people need to get wise to it ASAP, plus it's free), & KOFXIV (just relearning/refining my hitconfirms with Maxima, Love Heart, & King of Dinosaurs).

Been thinking of picking up SamSho since it's getting even faster support and I have a lot of love for SamSho II. Haohmaru is my boy both in his series and in crossovers, although I like what I've seen of Darli so much I preemptively put her on here because I know I'll use her a lot when I do get the game. I just think it will be sooner than expected.

As a huge fan of hyper tag fighters like UMvC3 & DBFZ, a game like SamSho that is the exact opposite is really refreshing.

Why not play something else on Fightcade? You have like two dozen or so options, albeit less populated ones. Play Heritage or something else fun like that.

I just bought SFV when it was on sale and don't want to drop 60 bucks + season pass on SamSho, but it seems like the perfect fighting game for me. It looks like it focuses on the things I enjoy about the games. Is it worth it to buy it at full price? Should I wait for a PC port? I'm just unsure of how the playerbase will hold because it looks like a smaller game and I don't really want to buy a discord fighter while I'm still fairly new to the genre.

I've already seen SamSho going for $50 at my local Gamestop, I'm sure you don't need to get it at retail at this point. Also the season pass is completely optional since it's just characters; even as a lab monster, in SamSho the character's tools are pretty laid out for you and there's not much in the way of combo complexity, so you only need to buy who directly appeals to your playstyle. Also Shizumaru is free.

Picked up BBTag and Unist to try.
Not sure why, but 3D fighters like Tekken and Soulcal feel way easier to play consistently.
Smash is still my main one though.

I've been mostly playing samsho lately. Playing Kyoshiro now that he has been buffed but I still don't feel like I've found my character in this game. Going to try Darli again as she has had some good buffs as well. I like samsho a lot but it does feel a bit side game to me. The game has a lot more going on than people think but it is a basic fighter. Though having something that does the basics well is a breath of fresh air these days, not many understand how to do basic well but SNK has hit it so well. The balance is in a mostly good place now so I hope they concentrate more on stuff like improving the lobbies, netcode, ranked point distribution making sense, make ghost mode worth anything etc. QoL stuff.

So I'm still kind of waiting for a game to be my main focus, hoping KoFXV manages to be a hit like samsho cause XIV was a fantastic game that just looked like ass. Honestly SNK are making the best fighters right now but get none of the credit cause people respond more to graphics

He is still one of the best characters in the game, he just isn't completely stupid any more. His risk/reward makes more sense now but all his stuff still works. A lot of the balance patch is basically going no you can't play stupid any more, which is great for a lot of people but annoys the tier whores. Apart from tam tam, he just got away with it all.

That looks fucking amazing, but I can see why they went back to a more SS1/2 pace. Even I would struggle to keep up with that kind of speed at first, I can't imagine how many people it would turn away. Maybe they can inch us back there with the inevitable sequel, would be nice.
