Just finished my 2nd playthrough of Metro 2033, after this I'm gonna start Last Light (might just tackle the DLC though) and then Exodus. I have to say, the original still holds up REALLY well. Difficulty scaling is mostly done well but has a lot of inconveniences (less button prompts mean you can die during qte's without knowing what you were supposed to do, no way of telling what ammo/items you just picked up, etc.) but the damage scaling evens out a lot of fights and even lets fun guns like the bastard be viable. But the game just doesn't feel like it was actually designed for no crosshairs/hud, on some guns the lasers are wildly inaccurate.
Anyway, what did you anons think? Particularly if you've played Exodus already, really looking forward to it since it looks like they made a lot of qol improvements.
defense/child was literally the worst level in the game because of these fucks. Between low lighting with bright fires (night vision and flashlights are equally bad), gas, and these guys, I'm skipping that level if I ever replay the game again.
Jason Miller
Have you played exodus ranger hardcore? It's even fucking worse. You get a single autosave that the game decides when and where to use. I had to restart entire chapters when I died an respawned in a pit of fire.
Benjamin Johnson
I think that was the same in 2033 Redux, you can only reload the last checkpoint or reset the level. Luckily I never hit an salvageable scenario though, but some fights were extremely obnoxious due to it. What was the most annoying part of it in Exodus for you?
Nicholas Morris
Original or Redux? Which one is the best?
Jonathan Williams
I played Redux. I have the original as well but never played it. Stuff like Ranger and Survivor/Spartan mode were only put in later, so I guess I shouldn't be too butthurt about the fact that they feel slapped on and last minute, they literally were.
Redux patches in stuff from Last Light and adds some graphical improvements as well as model changes (some more significant than others, e..g Khan).
Samuel Bailey
Best parts were with Khan and when things got weird. Same with sequel.
Otherwise pretty decent shooter with STALKER like moments scattered throughout. I preferred Last Light's STALKER-like action moments more but 2033 had better moments like D6 and Khan.
Noah Myers
It's a really solid shooter, I like that it plays to that strength and didn't try to go for more than that. Really looking forward to playing Last Light's DLC, I heard the longest one is basically a STALKER tribute with open levels, scavenging, randomized items and map elements, etc.
Anthony Jenkins
Yeah the bonus levels are fun and are a welcome addition after youre done with the story. More shooters should add fun levels like that.
Nathan Cook
The DLC is basically the best STALKER game since the original studio.
Kevin Rivera
What's even the point of playing on Ranger without crosshairs when you don't have independent weapon aiming like in Red Orchestra? It's always going to be in the center of the screen anyway.
Gavin King
Kshatriya, right? >comfy artifact collecting and librarian dodging
Xavier Sanders
Exodus did the right thing by doing open sandbox levels instead of going full open world meme. It feels nice and focused but there's still so much to explore, wander in, etc.
Adrian Harris
Honestly the weird parts of the game were my favorite. I hope there's a lot of them in Exodus.
Brayden Morris
Yeah, it wasn't until I recently read an old review comparing it to HL2 that I realized why I loved this series so much. It's got a nice focused story the whole time, it's linear but you have enough room to play and explore and have fun.
Joseph Cooper
I've never played any of the Redux games but in the original 2033 ranger mode was exactly the same but with less ammo, more damage from both sides and you had no HUD, but you could bring up your HUD briefly by pressing a button.
In Last Light they removed that button so you are literally playing as a complete retard with no way of even determining what you just picked up or what's in your backpack. In all my years of video games I can honestly say I've never seen a design choice the developers thought about less.
Jaxson Clark
Ahhhh, that makes sense. It's weird that seeing your ammo count is like two button presses. You hold one to bring up the journal, then another to see the ammo. It's a real fucking pain.
