Everybody's getting the nostalgia rush they're looking for on day 1. That excitement is going to last a week at best, then you'll start seeing the servers getting emptier and emptier.
Barely any new subscription after month 3.
Games gonna be a desert in 6 months, except for the 15 autists that are already planning to log in every day for the next 15 years

from what I remember, HoT is the most efficient way to heal. in Dungeons you will mostly heal using your normal spells. Slower healing spells are more efficient, but it's not as if you need it.
Sometimes you will shackle undead using CC, while mostly you will shoot heals out on the tank, and shoot your magic wand (0 mana costs).
And sometimes you will shield (expensive mana cost) other allies that are not your tank, if they catch aggro. This is the only time when mana usually becomes a problem. Or if misspulls happen.
The biggest challenge for a healer is to adapt to bad groups.

I've had to bring this up numerous times over the years, but when you buy a subscription MMO, what you are actually paying for with the subscription is customer service. This is how the publishers and devs rationalize the fee. You are not paying for content updates, you are explicitly paying for the ability (and quality thereof) to call in or use the ticket system, or whatever, to address your problems regarding the game.

Classic stylized servers are nothing new. Many other MMO's have done it, including Everquest. On a private server, your character only lasts as long as it takes Blizzard to push out a C&D letter to the server owner. Moment that happens, you can kiss all your progress goodbye. On an actual server, you get actual GM support when needed. Most private servers will try to add voluntary GM support, but its up in the air how well they'll respond since they have no set of rules given to them by the owner unlike an actual mmo studio.

Lots of end game encounters are designed around enrage timers, so if you don't kill the boss fast enough it enrages and one shots everyone (sometimes at the same time, usually one at a time so you have more time to get annoyed by it). To that end everyone needs to DPS, even healers. Personally I don't mind it too much since its better than standing around doing nothing. Especially with my scholar, I throw a shield on the tank and a HoT on the DPS that is in the fire, then I have 4 or 5 seconds to stacks DoTs on the boss before I go back to healing. Only time MP becomes an issue is for raids where there is a shit ton more healing to be done.

Approaching both games in the current year requires high amounts of autism tho

you get starved for mana in classic, you do pathetic damage and the healers aren't as versatile as in XIV so your average WoW healer has less than half the toolkit of a XIV healing class
on the other hand you get more flair and buffs to hand out, like shaman totems or paladin benedictions and auras

it's a really terrible idea to level as a solo healer spec in classic, but you can easily heal leveling dungeons as a dps spec as long as you put a few talent points in the healing tree and hoard some healer gear

You can post something that's "worth 300k" for 300k, or even 200k, and you still might not get a sale for months. A lot of the collectors have already bought the things they want, and unless a new collector comes on to the scene (more rare in modern times as it's such a daunting task to start) you'll be hard pressed to make a sale. It was a brand new game, for which they were making new content, the game is finished, it's over ten years old, and they aren't going to release any significant content for it, if you can't see the difference I don't know what to tell you. It's like you want to pay full price for an iPod for some reason, that shit is an old curiosity, and you can and should be able to get such old tech for cheaper than retail.
I can't believe I have to actually explain this to someone. It's like a consumer 101 basic ass concept that older products have deprecated pricing.

Cost is relative as you guys are arguing. However, subscription games, including back during the late 90's, were made under the assumption of two things:

1.Worlds would evolve, update, and/or be maintained to a specific quality.
2. Customers were willing to constantly pay for this (with a potential reward of $180 a year for this).

No game was perfect on launch, from Ultima Online to Everquest in the early days, to all the wow-killers from 2008+. However, they were being given money to buy from the beginning, and initially had some subscriptions.

The problem with post-wow mmos is twofold as well.

1. They wanted TBC/Wrath-era subscription numbers, and they wanted them now.
2. Despite larger budgets, they didn't know how to making fucking mmorpgs and later just relied on cloning WoW entirely. They were all Tortanic-tier launches and did jackshit to fix all the technical and core problems.

No one knows how to live with smaller subs or actual gameplay maintainance anymore other then Daybreak with Everquest.

Fucking Everquest has had 25 expansions and still ongoing. Might be a special case though because Everquest dev team includes alot of former players, and former devs went on to work on alot of other mmos, WoW included.

You're confusing spirit with mp5. Spirit pre cataclysm doesn't restore mana during combat, mp5 will always restore mana. In classic only priests had meditation which gave you a portion of spirit regen in combat but cataclysm gave it to every healer.

Drop Lasting Judgment, your melee attacks refresh them anyway and you just plain won't be using them in raids. I would also drop a point from Imp Lay on Hands and take Unyielding Faith instead, drop the two spare points into Percision for extra hit chance since you won't get any from gear.

They should just separate both retail and classic subs with a lower price, but offer a bundle sub for both them. The sub for Classic is pretty much never going to back into it and the sub for retail is certainly not worth it considering how they've treated the game for the last three expansions, while also at the same time increasing the price for each one since WoD.

Hots are not efficient, and should only be used if you're a druid or moving and can't stand to cast a long spell. Usually your biggest, highest rank heal is the most efficient when you start raiding and then you downrank as you get more healing power.

Shards never vanish. Its a pro strat to bank them so before raids you can just fill up and follow the raid to collect song flower and ony buff if you can pop it while its off cd. Later you will get DM buffs first unless your guild isnt that hardcore.

I wouldnt under sell lock dps. They just take a while to get going. They are the warriors of casters in that they need that gear to really shine since they dont get much hit at all from talents. But with a spriest in the raid along with a nightfall off tank you will see some pretty nice dps.

I raided as a warlock in vanilla and was always one of the best dps, if not the best.
Granted I only killed 3 bosses in Naxx and my guild never beat C'thun because we had too much dead weight.

Just stacking +shadow damage and getting all the +spellhit and spellcrit I could get was enough. 30/0/21 was a very strong spec.
