Anyone remember an old British TV show that used the old Total War games? They'd set up historical battles and contestants (non gamers) would give commands and some people in control of the game would do as they say
Anyone remember an old British TV show that used the old Total War games...
You're thinking of time commanders
I do, user, it blew my mind as a kid. I didn't even know they were using Total War or that it was a retail video game, I thought it was some fancy pants reconstruction software or something.
>I didn't even know they were using Total War or that it was a retail video game, I thought it was some fancy pants reconstruction software or something.
This
Anyone remember Bamzooki? Bet it'd look like utter shit if I watched it again. I was suspicious of it as a kid.
>The nail-biting computer generated game show fit for the digital age.
That's the one user
I didn't know of total war at the time either. I remember watching it in 2003 in my early teens and thinking "damn I wish I could play a game like this"
This show did NOT age well, seriously. Especially if you're a Total War player.
>watch cop show on TV
>suddenly WoW music
I flipped my shit for various reasons
To be fair the entire premise was to get people who don't know what they're doing to give orders.
this means blizzard licensed some cheap generic music instead of making their own soundtrack for those parts of the game
I didn't know it was still a thing, I was randomly remembering the first season back in the early 2000s
this is the type of """"people"""" who watch TV >history shows
That's fine and dandy but the core issue is that they don't even tell people about basic VIDEOGAMEY functions.
Like, they aren't even told you can have fire arrows, or that you need to actually turn off fire at will and so on which often leads to full retard scenarios.
They made a third season in 2016 using Rome 2, and it's as abysmal as you could expect.
They did another series a few years ago but it was only a few episodes, I think. Watched it with /twg/, good times.
Fire arrows are stupid anyway and shouldn't be used in historical simulations. They should definitely have been told about fire at will, though.
>Jared (((Diamond)))
This image is very accurate
The only good thing about the state of modern history is that everybody takes huge steaming shits over military historians. God I fucking hate 'em. The zoomer Lindybeige and Sargon watchers are surpassed in faggotry only by the boomer WWII/Boer War/Crimean War autists. None of them are interested in the interesting bits of history.
>Deus
>Fucking
>Vult
cries the sperg with the profile pic of a knight wearing a helmet a century too late for the period.
Knightmare was the good shit.
>and it's as abysmal as you could expect.
It had it's moments but jesus, they shouldn't have used the tranny even for old times sake. They should have mixed it up with different time periods.
>Historia Civilis
>bad
I think it's more the fact that German television doesn't give a shit
also
>documentary about Egyptian Valley of Kings
>Lord of the Rings music starts playing
sweet
>disliking Islam is bad
Oh yeah I forgot to mention the tranny, that too.
>that image
okay then retard, tell a better way to get into history if you're really interested in it?
lots of TV Stations dont give a fuck
>watch news story in tacoland about some police work
>suddenly MGS music
>tfw enjoying to look at different time periods and while not going into detail studying them enjoying learning an overview of things
Hopefully I wont turn into some of images.
that sounds fucking sick
>Shitalking wikipedia
Read it and check sources numbnuts
If your historical military show isn't showing me rectangles bashing into each other I'm not interested.
Top Gear used a track from Red Alert 2 once
Imagine being so autistic that you make it your lifes work to post obnoxious shit like this whenever theres a thread about any any historical subject, Grand Strategy game, or Total War game. Seek help.
Cool it has Hammond in it.
I remember one time seeing a show on the history channel about Roman military type shit and for battle re-enactment scenes they used Rome Total War.
Only Season 2
Seasons 1 and 3 are tranny shit
>imagine taking 5 minutes to describe me to the T
NPC argument
read a book
Nobody in this category will ever say that they know a lot about history
>cries the sperg with the profile pic of a knight wearing a helmet a century too late for the period.
are you saying that just because the helm wasn't used in the first crusade?
meanwhile in reality this demographic is the rank and file of history forums.
Talking about the UK and video games, I remember this show from fifteen years ago where they previewed new releases and had some guy who looked like pic related, they showed off pokemon colosseum and got nine year old user pretty excited
>cucks seething that people are learning only what they're interested in
> .093.093h.093.093.093h.093h.093.093.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093h.093
This show on the History channel also used Rome Total War for its reenactments
There was a show in the 80s that had a round where they played Paperboy or 720
are the osprey books good and accurate?
retard alert
>books
they're factoid booklets with lots of pictures. good for a very basic overview on topics with no detail/depth.
>all i can do is play video-games im basically a fucking retard
the post
Depends on the author. A lot of them are just bitesize books. Generally speaking books just published by them (as in, without any of their lines like New Vanguard) are longer.
what's wrong with liking military history?
nothing. I like military history. it's just military history generally attracts the lowest common denominator of people "interested" in history like shit attracts flies.
It was hard as fuck to make ones that were actually functional as a kid
classic case of "no my dad didn't help me at all"
>Where am I?
Based blind user
well then mr hardcore history pro, where do you get your history info?
AHEM
>fire arrows
>berserkers
>horse archery
>french portrayed as people
I used to hear Tiberium Wars music on news channels in my country during floods or snow storms. I used to flip my shit at that too.
Any UK anons remember Cybernet?
youtube.com
It always used to be on at random times when I was growing up, usually at like 11pm or 1am on some random channel I'd find by accident but man, it made the next 30 minutes fucking worth it.
Yes and it was cool.
>watch the apprentice
>Sims build/buy music plays
we had that show in Mexico as well. Think it ran for more than 15 years
Yes, I remember it fondly if maybe inaccurately. I think it used to be on even later/earlier.
idr show's title but something on the Science Channel in burgerland had Mass Effect 2's 'Suicide Run' during a solar system creation episode, planets battering each other and shit. was great
Alright you fucking cunts if you're so smart, Tell me which is the Most important event in the History of Civilizations
the Tiberium Wars theme popped up once or twice too
When ugg decided to not talk about vidya
Albert Einstone's discovery of fire and/or the wheel?
most retarded reddit pack ever.
I watch/read some of these things listed but I don't consider myself in any way a historian or history enthusiast. Whoever made this image is high tier pleb.
the first black man to have sex with a white woman
They brought time commanders back a couple years ago and decided it needed a tranny.
Say something nice about him/(her).
that just looks like a british woman are you sure?
mass immigration to the levant resulting in the birth of civilization.
I remember the final straight-line race, I designed a zook that would be perfect for it on their online platform. It was a slingshot basically, one leg launched itself far into the distance, and carried the rest of the torso with it. Could complete the sprint in about a second iirc.
*american history shows is more like it
Read primary sources, ofc
I remember it
>just lists basically every way anyone will become interested in history in an attempt to insult everyone at once
>Watching Time Commanders when the actual historical kino Decisive Battles existed
>Hosted by a professional actor known for his role as Spiers in BoB who narrates a great deal of what happened
>Several professors and experts who give statements as to what occurred, who did it and the results and consequences of battles
t. youtube zoomer pleb
>gatekeeping a field of study on a tibetan corgi breeding forum's video games board
shame I'm not allowed to learn about the roman republic since I don't know Latin
>gender history
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
He was in the original show you know. It sort of makes sense to bring him back.
BASED
no one is gatekeeping jackshit. you can watch a bunch of retards distorting history for views while playing a garbage arcade video game to learn your """history""" but that does NOT mean you're learned in history nor should ever think of calling yourself a historian or participating in history discussion and recycling false forum information. if you want to learn actual history, primary sources are a great start and later compilations/writing is also good.
>i need to know latin
nice excuse, aspie. read the landmarks of any roman historian, they've been translated to other languages centuries before you were born to feel personally called out for being rightfully called a shit-eating fly because you get your history from a video game.
That would be the game guru on gamezville.
When i was born.

someone seems a bit butthurt. can't find any jobs with your bachelor's from some no-name college?
Only European history really matters, all other people are and were savages.
I was just wondering about this. I searched for the show because I hadn't heard of it prior to this thread and pic related is what greeted me.
I loved randomly finding vidya programmes on tv back in the day. You would always find them late at night too.
Charlie Brookers gameswipe was neat

I enjoy Metal Gear Solid and Assassin's Creed games.
