I don't understand what nintendo's infatuation with adding melee to metroid is: Samus has a arm cannon, she's not a professional wrestler.
It just made the game feel clunky and slowed it down-- the fact that they tried to be mr. Clever dick and make every enemy be like "OHOHO! I can only be hurt by a single type of attack, better pull it out!" for goddamned NORMAL enemies just fucking pissed you off and made it a slog.
This is a game about being speedy, bouncing around and shooting enemies so you can explore, don't make it a slog.

I think that might have just been concept art to show how the suit might interface with her-- I think that was supposed to be the suit hooking into her when she wears it, not that she has cybernetic parts normally.

As far as I know, he only thing changed in Samus is her fucked up dna. At this point I'm surprised she hasn't gone full radiation victim. Being a human injected with bird dna, touched by metroids, infected by X and then injected with Metroid dna is not good for you. I'm surprised there isn't lasting damage in prime with how much Phazon that Samus was pumped full of.

I think she is, but not in the way people may traditionally think. Parts of the power suit had to be removed surgically at the beginning of Fusion, so it's somewhat implied that the suit is part of her. It also goes away with a flash of light, so maybe it dematerializes into her? It's hard to say since we don't know how the power suit works totally.

Metroid simply doesn't sell that much so Nintendo doesn't care that much, they throw out scraps to the relatively small but dedicated Metroid fanbase in order to keep them praising Nintendo while Nintendo can focus on what actually sells.

You don't even have to use the melee attacks at all, other than during certain metroid fights. It was optional, and it added a change of pace. If you don't like it just don't use it
