I don't give a shit who I'm forced to play as long as they're decently designed. That's usually the problem with female leads from western devs.
The males are normally boring as shit, but inoffensively plain or designed as some "other". The females just look ugly and/or skanky, with fucked up proportions by any artstyle's standards, and almost invariably the worst possible hairstyles and outfit designs imaginable.
The current crop of shitter devs learned every fucking thing they know about attractive females from Xena Warrior Princess, and it painfully shows.

That's how it felt when the term "Metroidvanias" was gaining traction. You get used to it eventually. It never stops being dumb, but you get used to it.

Controlling a female character doesn't automatically mean it's pushing an SJW agenda. I doubt anyone would consider pic related an SJW game, for example. Now admittedly, I'm not sure what game is being discussed in that pic. If it's an RPG, then yeah, it's bullshit that they don't give you a choice, because character customization is one of the most important parts of RPGs. All RPGs should let you choose male or female, change how they look, and so on.

I don't mind giving players the option to make their character gay or bi, though I do think that the wrong way to do that is make every potential romance option bi. That's lazy game design and bad writing.

I have to admit that I don't understand wanting to be able to make your character trans. I don't understand anyone wanting to adopt "trans" as a label, to be honest. One would think that if you really feel like you were supposed to be born as the opposite sex, then what you'd want to do is change your body to the opposite sex so that your body matches your mind and then fully identify as your new sex. Wanting to identify as trans doesn't make sense to me, unless someone forces it by trying to discriminate against you or something, but ideally, you'd look so naturally male/female that the issue wouldn't even come up.
