games are now about trying to make as much money from a product as you can instead of just making a game people like and doing the best you can to make it sell
there's still good games being made but gaming was a lot better off a decade and a half ago

i pirated celeste

I never understood why a kid is climbing a mountain.
Where is this from?

God I hate faggots who just play indie games

Celeste has an excuse cause the levels are styled like cassette tape sides, with A-sides, B-sides, and C-sides. Getting a cassette tape ingame unlocks that level's B-side.

Nothing wrong with that.

It's an allegory for abortion, the devs have said so on numerous occasions, it's supposed to represent the struggle to decide to have an abortion being akin to climbing a mountain. It's not /pol/ it's literally what the devs have said.

take it as you will, but that is objectively what it means.

>I never understood why a kid is climbing a mountain.
Madeline is an adult, and she's climbing the mountain because she's sick of starting projects but never having the willpower to complete them. So she decided to instead do something bold and daring and complete it to prove to herself she can.

This user is a faggot

I think I stopped there. Fuck, it goes on for longer than I expected.

>Substandard dash trash maze
You sure showed me.

>Madeline is an adult
Is there porn her?

I don't understand how people find these type of platformers fun

What kind of stupid question is this? Of course there is.

>Video games haven't gotten worse, gaming journalism has. Prove me wrong

thats a tall order seeing as how the last decade has put so much effort into proving you right

There are certainly tons of good games still, but some genres have suffered immensely or instead have faded away into only a few rarely released titles or independent fangames.
Certain tiers of production in games, AAA in particular, have become a lot less complete, often utilizing mtx to cover costs (and of course to milk idiots). Indie games are a mixed bag.

>Mario Maker Level Design philosophy

But you never see her body.

More like anyone that didn't get Kaizo was deliberately annoying trash design philosophy, and is meant for humor, and not a demonstration of skill.

AAA games are largely trash now, but everything else is at the very least solid

The one journalist mishearing/misinterpreting the lyrics in that Persona song will never not be funny. The backlash was deserved.
t.hasn't played Persona

It shows up on Theo's Instagram page from when they hung out after the events of chapter 7, before Madeline returned to Mt. Celeste for chapter 8.

So much this.
Fuck lazy indie devs, nowdays it's impossible to find good non-rage 2D paltform

But Celeste isn't rage-inducing at all. It's very relaxing.

Celeste was a good game. But that final level made me rage hard.

>But Celeste isn't rage-inducing at all. It's very relaxing.
>while posting a rage inducing section of the game

I agree. Celeste is bad tho, and is in the right. It has good game feel, but it's so rigid in its core level design that it doesn't allow self-expression in the jump as for instance would do a Mario

>difficult platforming in a platformer is somehow bad
what did you expect?

Wait, what? Whats the story on that, never heard this one.

While the golden strawberries are kind of ridiculous, the vast majority of the content in that game is really not that hard. Even the B-sides really aren't that tough for the most part if you have a modicum of experience with platformers.

>instadeath skiped on 95% of the level terrain is a good game design
user, there is artificial difficulty, the one that shit devs puto into their game for "muh difficulty", and actual good difficulty made by competent developers, like the DK Tropical Freeze one.

That protomagicalgirl fred flinstone looking tranny thought they said the word "retarded" in a P5 song and wrote up a whole article about it without any real research. After getting BTFO on twitter and having the article deleted, there was the typical "omg I'm so oppressed and everyone is harassing me" meltdown with not even a single apology about saying completely untrue shit and parading it as fact.

how do you make a platformer difficult without instakills?

DK Tropical Freeze just trades out instadeath spikes for pits and enemy placement. There's literally nothing wrong with requiring precision on harder challenges in a platformer. Celeste isn't even that fucking hard since the placement of spikes is incredibly lenient compared to some other games and leaves you a lot of space for error outside of some of the very last content in the game.

>Lena Raine
Oh, a girl's behind this?

This game is so fucking trash, not even worth pirating.

thats right, a '''''girl'''''.

gotta disagree with you on that one. core B side is by far the hardest section of the game, and mirror temple B side goes on forever, feels like an incredible gauntlet. still fun, though.

This is true. The B-sides are the hardest levels in the game, the reason I made the webms in and is to prove that perfecting the C-sides is very possible for anyone attempting it. Perfecting the B-sides and some of the A-sides is the real hell.

Yeah, has a good explanation of it all. It was Kotaku, of course, if you're interested in reading more into it.

tranny

Of course it was Kotaku. Why anyone pays attention to that shite site anymore is beyond me. It's a goddamn tabloid.

I agree

These don't seem very interesting. There's only one way of doing the level.

I’m going to buy and play Celeste sometime

I get it's kinda hard to pin down something as Black mass with ring eyes, but that shit looks just like Negativus Legatia from kero blaster.

>There's only one way of doing the level.
So? You can't meet the challenge the game presents?

...any examples?

whats all your guys opinions about ethics in gaming journalism

Everyone knows it's the fucking journalists.

>an unecessary, out of nowhere reference to Kero Blaster

I like you

The irony is that Celeste got the exposure it did because of corrupt gaming journalism. When it gets nominated for “game of the year” against AAA studio nominations (and beating out multiple other indie titles that were so much better), you know someone was sucking dick for the publicity. It definitely doesn’t deserve half the praise it got.

I agree. It doesn't help us argue with OP like he wanted, but he already chose the winning side.

That's right.

I dunno, I mean, Microtransactions and Gacha games exist.

I tried game development around 2 years ago. I tried a couple of game engines, learned some code, some art and some music to the point I could create my very own fully fleshed 3 hours shitty indie 2D games.

It was hard at the start but a very enriching experience. I got better with every new project and ended up even publishing a couple of mobile games on the Android store that in retrospect are pretty pretty alright. In the meantime I tried some 3D on Unity and worked on some RPG maker game using heavily customized code.

Then I realized I was wasting my time because the industry is shit, if you are a qualified professional you are treated like shit and when you are independant you have to become a cuck and spend more time on twitter than actually developing games. I like video games and I want it to remain a hobby, developing was fun but making it a career would kill that passion I have for them.

So I gave up and focused on my law studies and I don't regret it. I might come back dicking around with GameMaker someday or making some dumb RPG in RPG maker but it will only be for the fun of creating something interactive. Fuck working for this industry.
Fuck you celeste shill tranny, the industry is shit, and all the once great game developers have become liquid shit

if there is only one set way of doing something it's not a challenge it's a task

For me it's N.

t. needed assist mode and didn't get past chapter 4
anyone with even the slightest bit of video game competence found celeste to be a refreshingly challenging but fair pure implementation of the platformer genre. excellent controls, music, and level design. this over fucking garbage rehashed AAA shit that you eat up like it's fucking christmas dinner.

>the easier it is the better it is
that level isn't even hard, because it's designed well

>gaming journalism has.

'Ezus, i didnt think that was possible.

No it's you who got worse and miserable

Video games haven't gotten worse, but with the advent of internet publicity and indie glut there's more bad than good. For every Hotline Miami or even Celeste there's 20 No Time to Explains and Luciens shat out, not to mention the low effort Brazillian memefest tier below that.
>trans soundtrack promoting on Yea Forums
I mean, it's not bad, but still.
