Where is the fun?

Why the fuck are video games all about being good or being competative nowadays? where did just relaxing and having fun go. I blame games like soulsborne cause they made a generation of brainlets think being good at a game means something and if you arent good at said game its ok to ridicule. Fuck game devs nowadays i want fun back damnit give me more ratchet and clank and less fucking darksouls

You've never even played a Souls game, there's almost zero learning curve. You just need to grasp the basic mechanics like any other game, and then it's just like any other game in terms of difficulty. There are many older games that were far, FAR harder than Souls.

ive played 2 of em they are shit tier and yeh old games back when game development was in its early years and they threw in almost impossible challenges just to extend the time you would play the game for
>brainlet

>shit tier
Cripple filtered. Hope you can get some motor control in your next life, buddy. Maybe you'll be able to play DS4 by then.

i beat them tard they were just boring roll and swingathons theres no fun there at all. Where are the cool movement options or slowmotion powerup that would make the game much more fun this isnt about bullshit hardness its about genuine fun. If those games had more cool stuff it would be fun

this,
i don't know what you mean op.
there's no real fail condition in dark souls games unless you set one for yourself, compared to arcade bullshit or nes games with lives systems it's a cakewalk

>dark souls
>bullshit hardness
>roll and swingathons
Maybe you should go play Starjew Valley instead.

The shift in games stems from the rise of online gaming. Before games were made and marketed to individuals or small groups of friends who had to be together to play. Games had a smaller demographic and needed to avoid the difficult or skill gap heavy ideas that arcades used to use to farm quarters.
So they made games to be unique and fun but once the internet exploded the market and allowed people to play together from hundreds of miles away the design shifted to a more "sports" based skill and competition mentality.
Fucking Jockfags still ruining my fun even after all these years.

Being good and competitive is fun. Fighting games are some of the only games I find fun anymore. Single player games this last decade have been pretty underwhelming desu.

I miss fun too

Have ssx

t. CUTE and FUNNY boomer incel who has to go back to plebbit so he can dilate and cope with the seething cumbraĆn zoomer from resetera who a cute, CUTE!!

Challenging and competitive games have existed for decades. From old school crpgs, to fighting games, to classic fps, to survival horror, to adventure games, to platformers, it was far more the case that games didn't hold your hand more so than they did and we are experiencing a psuedo return to this style of game design, thank god.

the problem, which you misdiagnosed as being caused by souls, is actually esports, streamfaggotry and the nightmare that spawned from that. souls games are actually far more in line with old vidya game design.

Its what happens when things become popular and normalized. Video games use to be niche and now it has grown to a billion dollar industry. Like any other billion dollar industry, you try to appease as many people as you possibly can, so you dumb down your shit to be as palpable as possible. This takes the 'soul' out of video games and turns them into products. Think about it this way:

Person A likes thing, person B, C, and D do not like thing. Collectively, B C and D have more money to spend than A. So they change the thing, now A doesn't like it but B, C, and D do. Since they no longer cater to A, they can cut corners and come out with cheaper shittier things and make the same amount of money.
A is people who enjoyed the video game boom, B C D are the majority of 'gamers' now. Games were cared for and full of soul, now they're a product to be pumped out as quickly and as cheap as possible.

This, the souls games are just a matter of learning, you learn the game mechanics and then you memorize the boss's moveset, and just like that you've mastered it, there's nothing impressive or extraordinary about it, I'm a brainlet and souls games are relatively easy to me now that I'm accustomed to them

There are so many fucking games that are relaxing and fun. What kind of game are you looking for?

So play a fun game. Have fun. Why the fuck do you need to turn video games into a social competition anyways? Nobody gives a shit if you're having fun and nobody is going to interrupt you from doing so, so stop going on Twitter and basing your video game playing on what tags are trending the current day.

>give me more ratchet and clank and less fucking darksouls
Fun fact: Ratchet & Clack 2016 and Dark Souls 3 released on the same day in NA. I'm not sure why you are complaining when the game you wanted came out at the same time as the game you didn't care about.

I love Mystery Dungeon! It was actually my first Pokemon game.

Games are fun, you're just a jaded faggot who's so high on nostalgia that you'll constantly overlook good and fun games because they're not the ones you grew up with. I'd list some fun games but you'd probably nit pick them all and reduce the countless hours of fun they have to one shitty greentext

Read the article "In Praise of Mediocrity".
For a tl;dr - Demanding excellence in leisure activities, as well as the expectation of making anything you're good at into a career, robs people of the ability to enjoy what would otherwise be enriching hobbies.
