Because it's easier to have variety in magic than variety in melee.

It's not a mobile game. They're fixing ArcheAge while opening up the entire map as well.

that's the thing though, the magic skillsets aren't actually that varied. you have generic mage, generic healer, and then 3 different types of "spooky mage with curses and hexes".

they could have easily just copy-pasted the Battlerage skillset a few times and added new gimmicks like they did with the spooky mage skills

I remember looking forward to this game when it was in very early stages of development, what's going on with it now?

New team behind it and people are optimistic about a new server with the P2W removed or severely cut back as that is the new companies statement.
I never got to play AA with a guild so I'm hopeful of trying it with other people for once.

Appears to be f2p on steam, how bad is the p2w shit? Seems like a mistake to do it a week before classic wow though gotta say

It's chock full of p2w shit which is why people get excited when something NEW is brought up.
Archeage was basically built around being P2W so without a major overhaul it can never get that out of the progression system.

Probably only announcement, but yea it was super pay to win and heard it's gotten worst, from when I played (right at the start) the labor system was ass for f2p, I remember sometimes to equip new gear you got you had to spend a few points just to figure out it's stats, sometimes to open up certain chests and wallets (not sure what kind of container, but 100% had to open up shit) and you'd rarely have more than a couple labor points ever, so sometimes I'd be just waiting around for my labor points to refill doing nothing.

But it was 10/10 game otherwise, so much so that despite the fact I've had zero fun with all the other mmos I've played, Archeage was the only one that got me actually excited to log in to

Honestly subscriptions at this point are the best policy because it means their focus should be shifted away from a cash shop, or at least having one that's purely cosmetic and toned down.
If a game is B2P/F2P they are going to get their money out of you in the end somehow. GW2/ESO cash shops are so invasive they drag the entire fucking game down. BDO is still P2W.

Except in the case of BDO/GW2/ESO the ratio of earnable cosmetic content to paid cosmetic content gets horribly skewed.
Speaking mostly from playing ESO it has literal examples of stuff being cut from game just to be added to the store. I'd rather just pay monthly and avoid all this nickel and diming shit with paying for convenience features on top of everything else.

That sort of shit kept me from trying ESO, the fact they lock every single cool looking mount under a paywall is a fucking joke

It's company incentive, subscription MMOs want to drag things out to keep you playing and paying monthly. B2P/F2P MMOs don't care about how much you actually play the game they just want you buying things, so systems are built to reward paying over playing.

TRION was sold to Gamigo, just the name remains now.
Max level now is Ancestral 34 (beyond level 55)
Most items don't need regrade, new system called "synthesis" uses 2 items to give exp towards an item and 100% to next grades (no RNG).
Talks between Gamigo (Publisher) and XL games (Developer) to take out some of the cash shop.

If you play the game like a normal person 6-8hours/day, around 6 months... you will progress until your Divine/Epic Hiram gear.

So is it worth it to actually invest into it now? Are there any groups to join for newfags or returning players? Server choice matter much?
I've been really craving something like Archeage but I wrote it off after playing the 3.0 fresh start.

I suggest to wait until this announcement happens, if a new start server pops up, go for it.
