The game was fine but combat was awfully simplistic, bland and boring. Also the art was lackluster, the characters's sense of fashion was insulting and the story did not make any sense, especially at the end. At least the music was passable.

I think it was more the price, they sold it for €50 and only added two hours of new content and it bombed.
It got dropped to 30 on Amazon and started selling like crazy but it's probably too late.

Because of this, he was afraid that this kind of behavior would eventually spread throughout the other grounds, and, considering how the Noise operate, you can kind of see where he’s coming from. Here's my TWEWY sequel idea.
The Angel's host their own game to decide the fate of the UG and RG, which is why noise are popping up in the RG.
Hype-chan is an assassin sent by the Angels to kill Joshua for his stunt during the Reaper's Game
She loses her memories and Joshua's composer powers are taken away by the Angels and he and Hype-chan are forced to form a pact
Neku and Sho form a pact and the four of them have to work together to beat the Angel's Game.

Everything you said is complete correct, but people will pretend the gimmicky combat was fun and the awful dialogue was charming. As for the plot, the secret reports flesh it out. Spoilers: it's Kingdom Hearts-tier "multiple worlds and research on separating souls from bodies" stupidity.

The combat system was well designed, it would be gimmicky if it was just randomly using the DS features with no rhyme or reason, instead of using the two screens and touch screen features to allow you to simultaneously control two characters in a way that is both connected to the themes of the story and fun to control. It's honestly the most original gameplay we've gotten from modern Square Enix, I don't get the hate for it from anyone.
Play on DS if you wanna get the best experience user, there's really no substitute.
