it lacks the "abstract flesh/tech combo" madness of og hell but its levels looked nice at least
enemy sprites ranged from interesting designs that even had changes for gameplay to uglier barons and zombies
the unmaker is weird because it makes the demon keys almost a focal point, despite being secret
i wish it had a few more enemy types, specially the new ones that were cut

It's great, but I don't prefer it over original Doom.

So strictly a gzdoom wad, that doesn't work on other source ports? utnt is one of rare gzdoom only wads, that I enjoy.

Yea, the lack of chaingunners, revenants and arch-viles make it bit boring. Those were most interesting additions in Doom 2, that really spiced up the combat.

The Unmaker was a great idea, a gun that starts as a worse plasmagun, but can be upgraded with demon keys until it makes the BFG appear a peashooter. It just needed to be in a longer game, and have it's own dedicated ammo instead of using cells.

zdoom isn't getting updates anymore. gzdoom is continuation of it. it's main developer is gigantic fucking asshole though, that removes features and fucks up the compability, if he wants to do it.

It's the continuation of zdoom, and the only option to play a lot of things. It's very heavy, though, making even powerful machines slowdown to single digit framerates on more complex maps and mods sometimes, due to very poor optimization.

a couple of years ago someone made a doom64 mod/port or whatever you could just download and play on pc, does anyone have that?

You can get doom 64 ex from developer's website. Then you need to find the doom 64 rom to run it. Probably use torrents since emuparadise doesn't exist anymore.

While not the best and definitely a much different tone from 1 and 2. 64 is a really fun Doom game and the atmosphere does work. Its just a really fun one off.

I didn't like how enemies tend to spawn around you. And there were no Revenants, so it loses some points there. I like the look and sound of it, though, and the final boss was better than in the first two games, though that's not saying much, and it's still not great.

The only bad about Doom 64 is that the shotgun feels like shit other than that it's pretty damn good

Doom 64 was a remake of Doom, not Doom 2. They probably had envisioned a sequel and saved those for later but then everybody was flocking to PS.

It wasn't a remake of anything, dumbass. It's a completely original game. You're thinking of Quake 64.

The atmosphere is the best, but a lot of the levels in it were configured with console play in mind.

Doom 64 is the canonical sequel to Doom 2 and details why Doomguy chose to stay in hell and eventually be found in Doom 2016.

That's what everyone thought it was when it released, but it's really the "doom 3" just under a different name.
It even (loosely admittedly) connects doom 1/2 to 2016.
