Very little character progression, both from a story and RPG perspective, limited customization, manages to be both short but padded at the same time (see: hotlands)
It's alright but it certainly is far from perfect. It's only really attention grabbing if you haven't played any of the Japanese genres it took inspiration from. It does nothing new but combines some rare ideas together in an unusual package.

The writing and humor is so painfully forced and tumblr-y (or whatever fandom this thing originated from). It somehow manages to be more obnoxious than a Borderlands game. I didn't laugh once during my entire playthrough of it, but I rolled my eyes countless times.

It will also age terribly because of alll the dated pop culture references. Like, there's one part of the game where that scientist interrupts you with messages/calls every few steps you take, which is obviously parodying Facebook message updates. Not only does this show a child's understanding of how comedy works, but that segment is excruciating to play through, because you get interrupted every few steps.

And the mechanics are completely disconnected from the narrative. In other rpgs, non-violent conflict resolution is handled through dedicated mechanics like stealth and diplomacy. Undertale just has this completely abstract bullet hell mini game. How does that even make sense?
The twist is supposed to be that monsters are actually peaceful and just afraid of you. But then why do they immediately try to murder you? Why don't they approach you peacefully first and see if they can reason with you? Or at least run away?

Why is there a village of monsters who don't attack you? This village is inhabited by monsters interact with you peacefully, so why can't the other monsters do that?

Why are you labeled as a genocidal maniac for fighting back in self-defense (and since the game has invisible random encounters, you can't avoid these enemies and you get assaulted by them just by walking around)?

The whole thing falls apart under the slightest scrutiny.

It's dishonest to suggest that pacifism is the best course of action in every context. Life is much more complicated than Undertale suggests. It's maybe right when applied to low-stakes interpersonal conflict, but why use the metaphor of war and genocide? Those are serious problems and Undertale's point is that refusing to fight can overcome such adversity, which is a naive lie.

Basically, it's a feel-good game for children but I don't think it has much of anything to say about life that's deeper than an episode of Mister Rogers' Neighbourhood.

Dialogue and jokes are really cringe(not in a buzzword way just really embarrassing) and will not age well, mostly just epic references.
Game is just fucking boring and requires you to play the game twice to get the real ending.

The main game mechanic has the problem that it becomes exponentially easier the better you are at it. Because you have to evade fewer attacks when you don't have to take turns to heal. This problem becomes even more apparent in Deltarune where you're almost able to ignore the entire RPG side of the combat if you're good at dodging.

It strives to be Earthbound-like, and it hits those right notes, while also hitting Earthbound's sour ones as well. When a joke didn't hit home when I was playing, it didn't just not hit home, it didn't even hit near the same planet. Some of it's humor is "Hey look at this! It's so funny, isn't it?" which while done good here, is like a polished turd. As well, while the game was meant for a younger audience, that meant that it suffered in difficulty in attack patterns in a result, with notable exceptions being Omega Flowey (for scare factor or something, and even that didn't get too difficult), Undyne the Undying, and Sans.
And finally, nitpick, the heart hitbox isn't 1:1 to the sprite, nor is it smaller than the sprite, making it a little suspicious at times when I get hit.

The True Pacifist boss is too easy. I get that the whole "But It Refused" thing exists so that the flow of the dialog is not interrupted, but I feel like it could have been done better.

Yeah but my whole point is it doesn't do the moral implications justice. It goes too far. By failing to consider the player character's perspective and situation, it presents a morality skewed excessively in favor of the random encounters and against the player character, to the point that it's almost as unjust as the typical kill-everything-you-find formula it tries to critique.

Well yeah, no one runs a perfect pacifist run their first try. The game is meant to be replayed. You play the game, kill some monsters because you think it's no big deal, sans tells you that murder is bad, you play the game as a pacifist with your new found knowledge.

That's not quite what I'm talking about. Again, I'm talking about the player CHARACTER'S knowledge, not the PLAYER'S knowledge. Until the player CHARACTER (emphasis on CHARACTER) has died once, we do NOT have any reason to assume THEY know (NOT "WE know") that they can come back. It's quite possible, and in fact I would assume, that the player CHARACTER thinks that if they die, they're dead for good. Couple that with the fact that as soon as they get their first random encounter, something is attacking them -- causing them physical harm, possibly threatening their life, which is, AS FAR AS THEY (NOT WE) KNOW, the ONLY life they have to live. It's justifiable for the player CHARACTER to fight back in that situation. If they kill the monster, it's self-defense.

You can argue, as you have been arguing, that WE, the ACTUAL PLAYER, have nothing to lose in this situation. However, killing the monster is still justifiable for us as well, because they exist at a different level of reality from us. Compared to us, they aren't real, so killing them has the same moral value as ripping up a drawing.

It just so happens part of my "autism's" manifestation is that the grammar by which means I structure thoughts in my head is very nonstandard. I've tried in the past to coerce my thoughts into a form more typical to how we speak these days, but the structure is so different it's honestly just too cumbersome.

The game revolves around its story. If you don't read the dialogue, you're missing out on the majority of the meaningful content. I'm not disagreeing with you -- I refuse to weigh in on whether the dialogue is worth reading -- but the fact remains that it comprises most of the game experience. As for whether that experience is good or bad, worthwhile or not, I'm honestly not sure, but what I do know is that it wasn't designed for people who can't read the dialogue. So the initial suggestion that it treats you like a child because it was made for children doesn't hold up.

I don't agree at all. Maybe you're correct to an extent in Undertale's case specifically, but at a more general scope, I don't think prioritizing story in a video game ruins the point at all. The gameplay may suffer, sure, but the game as a whole doesn't necessarily suffer, it just occupies a different sort of medium. Consider, for example, Yume Nikki, Gris, Mother 3. The first two of those three games contain no dialogue, but they still prioritize story in a sense; that story is told through graphics. The third tells the story more traditionally, i.e. largely through dialogue. All three of them are good games.
