Yeah I have, I found it to be more annoying than anything. The areas you fight her/ get chased around are not really conducive to what they want you to do (long jump0 And the Gonarch is REALLY fast and hits like a truck so what ends up happening 90% of the time is that you get caught on a pebble, hit a head stop and the Gonarch 2 shots you against a wall or sends you flying into one.

They've changed some stuff since then to make it less frustrating but I haven't tried it.

OF is so goddamn hard though. Love the game but beating that on hard was honestly one of the hardest shooting games I've played.

I just beat HL1 again last night, game was surprisingly good almost all the way through. It gets kind of dickish near the end, there's one part near the army baracks where they just hide a shotgun soldier right outside a hangar door so you're pretty much guaranteed to die. Fighting the tanks also kind of sucks.

The only part I disliked was the final boss, everything before that was honestly great. Even Xen has some really solid level design, despite that one room that requires platforming to reach the teleported exit, but that can be done quickly once you understand the room.

Echos was so goddamn fun.

Cause its simple. It spends some time setting the game up and there on out its go go go. Get guns shoot enemies run to survive. There's very little that actually stops the player dead in their tracks. You're constantly moving, the only thing slowing the player down is themselves in most cases.
2 isn't like that. There's a bunch of story moments which are basically glorified cutscenes that you cant skip and there's a bunch of puzzles that halts whatever momentum youve got.

HL2 NPCs are never fun to be around. They're patronizing, they waste your time, and they constantly get in your way.

And not only that but Valve thought too highly of their characters. You know why HL1's NPCs were better? Because they aren't treated as precious. You find a Barney or a scientist, they help you out a little, they say something funny, then they run off and get gibbed. All is well.

In HL1 and its expansions, I liked to keep as many of my allies alive and get them as far as I could because there weren't many of them. One time, there was a glitch where the security guard that shoots the tentacles in the silo was invincible, and I was happy because it meant one more survivor. In HL2, there are so many rebels towards the end and the game throws so much shit at you that I eventually stopped caring when they died. I think the fact that HL1 was about surviving both an alien invasion and a government cover-up, whereas HL2 eventually became about fighting a war against an alien empire, might have had something to do with it.

That thumbnail reminds me of something I always loved about HL2. Where other games bash you over the head with dialogue about how a fascist regime is so evil, Half-Life just lets you drink in the scenery. The people being corraled into interrogatories, detained by the police, the playground empty of children from the supressing field.

US tries to use the normal military to silence everything going on in BM.
Normal military does okay at silencing the scientists (except Freeman) but get fucking rekt by the aliens in most engagements we see.
US sees they need to pull out the big guns and sends in Black Ops to silence not just the scientists, but the original military force they sent in too. Presumably they have a lot of confidence in the Black Ops troops' ability to keep whatever they see quiet.

That said it's always bothered me that freeman can cut through everything just fine but trained marines die in droves despite using the exact same equipment.
