In my case, when I promoted Felix, he immediately fell off. He was one of the first hitting 30, so it was particularly early. Just reclassing to MS means losing speed, but then the speed growth also went to shit. Eventually had to reclass him back to Swordmaster and then Assassing for him to catch up.

It unlocks a special skill or combat art for them. Usually, though, the consensus is that you should just laser focus your units into their best weapons and not even bother with mastering anything else.

The fun thing about Felix and his passive is that he can get +5 to both physical and magical damage without having to invest in Authority. The only Batallions that can give a boost as high are the B-ranked Glaucester Knights and the C-ranked Black Eagles supersquad. With Swordfaire and Black Tomefaire he'll be hitting +10 damage both physically and magically, and he'll get there with barely any investment simply through training sword and reason all year.

He'll probably be strictly better as a Swordmaster with Dimitri's +10 attack squad only needing a paltry C rank, but he's nowhere near bad as a Mortal Savant. I just have this utter misfortune with him where he always insists on critting on the second attack, wasting precious spell uses/Wo Dao+ durability.

You'll want authority on everyone. Even Felix and Catherine. A/B rank batallions give crazy boosts when maxed. Fliers will need D rank at the bare minimum just to have a batallion since all flying ones are D and above. I'd give priority on skills you need for promotions or great spells but once you're set on those, I'd rather level authority to B or higher than their main weapon.

Hubert is screwed in that he's a strictly worse Lysithea.

Even then, noone's unusable. I see everyone hating on Cyril and Ashe, meanwhile they're two of my MVPs simply because I've made them go Brigand -> Wyvern Rider -> Wyvern Lord. Starting at level 20 all the way to the end of the game they could oneround just about everything they attacked. I assume the people I consider bad can be turned amazing with enough love and favoritism.

This, my first playthrough was a hard mode BL run and enemy assassins were intimidating as hell on nature of their insane speed. Throw a wall like Dedue down or a dodge tank like Ingrid and it gives you a hell of a leg up

Mate, I suggest you look at Dark Mage's/Bishop's abilities again. They learn neither Dark Tomefaire nor Dark Magic uses x2. Hubert has no access to Dark Tomefaire until he becomes a Dark Knight, which Lysithea can become as well. Hubert can't ever get Dark Magic Uses x2, Lysithea gets it as a Gremory.

Also Hubert gets the shittiest possible Faith spell list, a weakness in Faith, learns no Hades and doesn't learn Dark Spikes until A rank reason. Lysithea learns Dark Spikes at B rank and has an innate skill that makes her gain proficiency through combat twice as fast.

Is there any easily missable units on the BL in terms of other house's students? Not going to kick myself over it but I would prefer to get as many people as possible. Mostly aiming to get personal favorites at least.

For me it was Sylvain. He starts out as kind of trash Dimitri but by the endgame as a Dark Knight he was cleaning up. Ashe also turned out much better, especially as a Bow Knight which eliminates lack of mobility from the mid-game.

Depends a lot on the character. for instance Marianne gets to use the Thyrsus or Caedul staff, Nosferatu is damn broken since it lets her enemy phase enemies as long as her HP allows her to, and Aura has a good crit rate to exploit through batallions. So I don't believe she really loses anything from working to Holy Knight through her natural aptitudes than going out of her way to get Reason slowly, when all she really needs from it is Thoron and she gets it relatively early.

Lysithea can also spam Warp as a Gremory or stack double White Tomefaire in Holy Knight to actually nostank if you give her enough seraph robes.

you're not supposed to make him an archer, he's alright with a bow, but you're supposed to give him a class that ties in with his strong crit chances. In my case, he's been a lance dude with a healer adjutant since for some reason he always gets crits with lances on my run

I had to force stat boosters down Byleth's throat to keep him viable near the end of Part 1. Thankfully after that he got the message and started getting good levels. He's not the best in the army, but he's far from the worst. He's got like 30 speed and 33 strength why the fuck is his AS so low, he never doubles anything

Movement has always been premium in FE though. A 10% growth bonus in strength won't make or break a unit but them being so far behind the rest of the team that they'll never see combat definitely will

My Raph cleaned house, I got really lucky in Spd growth. He could quad often enough with gauntlets and took hits pretty well, combined with healing combat arts.

Why not? You can have pretty much any sword user get a C in bows to get Assassin as skip needing to get a Master seal. Any Cavalier should sub Bows to get into Bow Knight for sweet +2 bow range. The existence of Close Counter at mere C rank completely nullifies any draw back archers may have.

Dimitri has good supports about teaching orphans at the Monastery swordsmanship pre timsekip, only for those same orphans to try and kill them post timeskip. Byleth's supports are all over the place, some characters have pure garbage with him like Cyril and Ingrid while others like Bernie and Lysithea get actually good written supports, and some others only get good past a certain rank, there is no consistency whatsoever.

Everyone can use the extended range staves so the bonus range is moot. Its just that Lysithea/Lorenz get Aegis/Pavise and crestlets take 10 damage after acting. I wouldn't be surprised that the weapon being not as exclusive as people think affects tiering.

Church route is the default Black Eagles route. Did you go to Edelgard's coronation?

Just because a unit is workable doesn't mean they're good. If the lowest you would rank a unit is 8/10 that means that is the new 1/10. Having a bad personal skill and a strength growth almost as bad as some of the mages makes him a terrible choice for anybody playing the game. If you like him, that's fine, but don't try to kid yourself into thinking Ashe isn't one of, if not THE worst unit in the game

And so what? It's still mid battle healing and you can always just abuse the garden and pump her full of stat boosters if you want to use her as anything other than a physic staffslut on a horse. Out of the characters you listed for Dark Knight only Mercedes and Marianne have any form long range healing, which is usually Marianne's role, and a mighty important one in the context of not dying.

By the time you reach the endgame, your units will be good even if they stay in an Advanced class, the enemies do not have access to as many boons as you do like Battalions, Dancers, Class Mastery skills, Regal weapons, Warp/Rescue bullshit, nor do they every use Combat Arts. What people should focus is in a character performing well AS you reach your final class, not its performance during the final quarter of the game. And Marianne is definitely going to struggle if you try to push Reason from the beginning on her slow ass, and have it grow at a much slower rate than Faith. She's neutral to Reason and she has to consider Riding will be taking up the other slot in her goals the whole game if you want it B or B+ by chapter 14~, which is more or less the time she and everyone else reaches level 30.

Second, Blizzard being half as heavy as Nosferatu while also being three times as strong AND having a crit rate will actually let her get some kills. The healing doesn't matter since you should never get her hit anyway. If you use her to heal you will reach B rank for Silence naturally which is all she needs in Faith. White magic is shit offensively in this game, just accept it

I don't like Ashe. But pretending that anyone is "useless" in a game like 3H is quite silly. What'll matter more for tierlists is personal combat arts and spell lists instead of growths for the reason i mentioned above.

Also Deadeye > Caspar's unique combat arts. Yeah Caspar has +10% strength (so +1 strength every 10 levels) but Ashe has superior range that he can't replicate when they're both in the same class meaning that Ashe is more likely to contribute in combat. Also since they're both going to want to pass through Brigand/Wyvern, Ashe is unlikely to have such a significant strength disadvantage that he'd be tinking enemies.

You could do better than both of them to be honest.

My argument is that it does not makes an impact on their performance at all whether Marianne, or Mercedes is a Dark Knight or a Holy Knight. So if you want to make them both mounted, you're way better off not shooting yourself in the leg for the biggest bulk of the game by going against their natural proficiency so they can be better at a role they will not play by the endgame. Just keep them as a Holy Knight, they get their requirements much faster and easier, and they can still use Reason if you want to marry yourself to Fimbulvetr. Marianne literally doesn't need to touch Reason again after you get Thoron, the one Reason move she's actually going to use.

Or just, you know, take the L, miss the 2 Move and get them into Gremory.

Why wouldn't you invest in bows especially if the character has a preference in it? Close Counter is available stupidly early which gets rid of the biggest problem bows have in the series, effective damage/not eating counters are always useful and if you don't want to go wyvern, it still slides into an excellent final class.
