Elden Ring Demo Leak and impressions

I'm a Souls youtuber, most of the prominent ones got an invite last month to see a demo for Elden Ring. We got flown out to FROM HQ, and was a really cool experience, Tanimura (whose the co director on the game) presented it to us. It was about thirty minutes. I believe the same demo is going to be shown to the press at Gamescom (It won't be shown to the public, but you guys are getting a two minute gameplay trailer.)

>The setting of the demo is an early game swamp area. The game honestly look's gorgeous, graphic fidelity of Sekiro but enhanced (NPC's even have voice sync). You can really see the decay from the dying trees and rotting flora.
>An example of the increased graphic fidelity, instead of just being slowed down, our character moves through the black muck with a unique animation, struggling with all their might.
>Character in question is a Knight, though they emphasised they wanted a more early medieval look for the human kingdoms of the world, wearing Norman-Knight esque gear instead of classic plate. Tanimura emphasis the game will have alot of different playstyles, with comparisons to Dark Souls specifically. I was paying attention to specific mechanics he didn't mention but were seen; Poise is like Dark Souls 1, the character could tank hits. Movement was slow, heavy armour now actually slows down movement speed, but is even more resistant to attacks.
> The arms were a simple broadsword, and a heater shield. Weapon's Arts are back, unchanged from Dark Souls 3. Two Handing the broadsword let's you go into a stance, in which you can flourish the blade two times.
>World design is way more open. The Swamp is massive, and according to Tanimura this is Souls answer to the openworld, though he emphasised the open nature is to benefit exploration, and will not do much to change classic FROMSOFT level design, areas are relatively self contained.

>The main enemies are mostly wraiths, victims who drowned in the swamp and haven't been able to find rest. The entire swamp is filled with half submerged, mummified corpses, for a great battle took place decades ago. Their phantasmal, though you can see traces of bone and they wear spectral, tattered robes of darkness, covered in algae and decay. They rise from the black mud, and try to devour the player. Can only be damaged with blessed weapons, or with using a certain item.
>Other foes encounter include "skeleton" (I use the term loosely, because they have bits of flesh and muscle still on them) soldiers, wearing both Welsh-looking and Norse equipment, using swords and axes, with glowing red eyes. And undead horses.
>In the sky hovers a red, glowing sky, that showers the place in an eerie, ethereal red light. According to Tanimura, the phases of celestial objects such as the sun and moons (there's three moons in the sky in Elden Ring) play a huge role in the lore and gameplay. When different phases happen, the world is changed, including varying levels of enemies, NPC's becoming active, new areas being open, and even bosses becoming available to fight. The sky can changed depending on story events, as well as the player discovering "rituals" and enacting them. It sounds like the cut ritual system from Dark Souls 3. The Red Sun is described as "when those who want to devour flesh rise from the earth."
>We reach a certain point were the swamp branches into two paths...and a soft, haunting song is heard. The player follows the song through the mud, going right, into they reach a clearing, with a gorgeous, lake is located. A beautiful, black Stallion is seen, prancing around the water, and bathing. A small cutscene plays, as the player approaches to pet the animal, before his hand gets stuck. The Mare is revealed to be a daemon, a Kelpie, as it becomes a nightmarish abomination, dragging the player into the depths of the lake.

Anyone have any questions?

BTW, their aiming for an early 2020 release.

how much of a faggot is vaatividya?

I don't believe you user

Vaati is nice in person, just very awkward. He loses all of the lull of his voice in real life. He was reluctant to go, because of his commitments to his family.

>early game swamp area
Fuck Fromsoft and fuck jannies.

And I forgive you for that.

I thought it was supposed to be completely open world
