I like the gameplay, but to me Blood is still the best feeling build engine game. Before you call me a bloodfag, I don't think that game is the best build engine game or anything, it's pretty flawed but I do think in terms of weaponry and mechanics it is the most fun to play by far, I get into such a good rhythm when I play that game.

I love blood as well, Ion maiden feels like a worthy build game so far, if I got any complaints it would probably be that it lacks a bit of personality, and it could use another "crazy" weapon in the arsenal.

I like a lot about Blood, but it just runs out of steam so hard after the first episode that it just becomes a slog by the end of it. I feel like they could have cut an episode or two to focus on making better levels and it would have came out better, it's a shame when stuff like Death Wish is just so much better than anything in the base game (or its expansions). Overall I just prefer Duke than Blood.

Yeah, Ion Maiden has a lot going for it, but it just needs that 1 extra thing to push it over the edge. The weapons that are there are great, but it sucks to have what should be a rocket launcher be a secondary fire for the shotgun and no big crazy weapon with rare ammo.

Paint enemies and gun them down when you let go, like deadeye in Red Dead. I'm sure it'll get less useful when the tougher enemies show up, but there's no real penalty for using it other than feeling like a shitter and not getting those tasty headshots.

For now i am using it mostly as a way to see enemies from afar, a white skull appears on top of their heads.

On the second chapter right now, and it's really fucking good.

Enemy design is distinct and recognizable, different weapons are better for killing certain enemies too.
Weapons are fun to use, and the starting revolver isn't shit, unlike most FPS games.
Level design is pretty fun so far, standard key system, but each level has a nice flow to it.
The game also isn't afraid of throwing a shit ton of enemies at you and there's some actual tension in the fights.

Overall, definite recommend if you like these types of games, it's nice to actually get a faced paced single-player FPS these days.

It kills stuff extremely fast and uses all its ammo in 2 seconds. Even if you just shoot short bursts thats like 10 bullets gone. You use it a little and have to search the whole map for new ammo.

Reloading is fucked.
You can cancel reload animations by pressing the hotkey associated to the weapon in hand.

You can even cancel the pumping animation of the shotgun. After a shot, press R to cancel the pumping animation, then 3 to cancel the reloading animation.
Now you've got a rapid-firing shotgun, as long as you have enough ammo to be able to reload.

long range fire exchanges are definitely not my favourite, enemies are sometimes hard to spot, and I have to intentionally let them shoot so I can see where they are. also so far the only proper weapon to kill them is the revolver, which is alright.
I also like the idea of new enemies spawning during backtracking, gives you something to do.

Seriously, the dude who came up with those small flying fuckers can fuck off. They won't sit still for 2 seconds, they keep dodging 90% of projectiles and they hit like a truck. Thankfully their projectiles are slow and alt-fire revolver deals with them fairly quickly.

if you swap to granades, and then swap to other weapon, and then you bring shotgun by button 3, it gives you granade launcher. so 3 and 7 are the same weapon, but 3 swaps to shells, and 7 to granades.
but I dont remember it changing by itself, maybe you skipped the animation swapping weapons mid animation

Both games are made and broken on their level design, Redneck Rampage has garbage weapons and enemies, but it's brought to life by some great levels (aside from the sewer level) where Shadow Warrior has alright weapons and alright enemies, but the levels are just so bland and boring, so many ugly brown-and-grey industrial environments that just offer nothing interesting. I don't even think there is 1 Shadow Warrior level I look back on and have more than an "eh" reaction to.

I would guess: High vertex resolution fully textured 3d model, bake texture color into vertex color, round vertex positions to integers so they form a grid, then export the colored vertices. Then you just render those vertices as squares colored using the vertex colors.

Hitscan only. Aiming in Build games is partially dependent on auto aim. You don't need it for projectiles, but for hitscan weapons, it's important.
