No they didn't. Strong server hardware is more expensive to maintain than just deploying weaker virtual servers on a per-zone basis as necessary (shards). Countless machine hours and resources are wasted if you have one server to manage the entire realm and all of its zones/NPCs at once, especially if it isn't during peak hours. Hardware has diminishing return on investment the stronger it gets.

Well with TBC we saw druids get insane due to having it worked out just how immense the effect of dodge/agility were for druids especially with later gear sets from Vanilla. Going into Classic konwing that stuff feels like it may make for some funky experiences, but I can't remember what the gear was all like.
