They did with starcraft 2. They made self learning AI play against top players. The AI won almost all the time. The thing that stood out to me the most was the AI was attacking a building that was building and instead of shooting the building one final time the AI switched targets. Because when playing with other AIs, the other AI would cancel it at the last pixel thus saving him materials and trying to waste the other AI's time. So the attacking AI doesn't even bother finishing off the building. But during the AI vs player, the player didn't cancel the building, so the AI had to turn around his army and have them send one more volly at it.
