It scared me when I was younger. Now I just have sex with cute girls in Skyrim thanks to mods.

Morrowind with less skills, level scaling and a compass

It has way more character than Skyrim

Kinda biased tho, loved Oblivion and felt like Skyrim was pretty bland.

I played yesterday for a while for the first time. I made a nord that looked like your average effeminate swedish guy, bought the gayest clothes available killed a bunch of goblins, murdered a guy and killed myself.
I plan to finish skyrim and then play oblivion like god commands.

If I want to mod a game into pornography I play Skyrim and if I want to play a good elder scrolls game I play Morrowind. Oblivion is just there.

Skyrim may not be a great RPG but it's a great porn game

Best quests in the series. If you do a full playthrough of Morrowind and then jump into Oblivion, it becomes incredibly clear how much of Morrowind is just boring fetch quests. There are so many fun things to do in Oblivion, even though the gameplay isn't very good.

My favorite walking simulator ever, really comfy and some stories to tell your friends. Shame about the combat.

I like it, it has nice quests, especially the boat and the bravil arena one.

Level scaling ruins it as you pretty much have to minmax your levelups if you don't want to get stomped

I can't even mod it enough to make it good without completely breaking the game. I just download mods and give up every six months.

Yeah exactly.
There's way more options to complete quests as well.

It's radiant.

I made mine a Sims game with the occasional porn and rape, it's pretty fun as long as you avoid the quests and start seeing the mistakes

Comfy overload.

Not perfect but a giant leap forward from Morrowind.

They say that when you murder someone, the Dark Brotherhood comes to you in your sleep. It's how they recruit new members.

It was ok. Has a lot of fundamental problems. It was also the start of Bethesda ripping features and mechanics out of the franchise. Was the beginning of the end of those games.

youtube.com/watch?v=LPysOFeSg8E

It's a "so bad it's actually good" game, it was my introduction to TES, I loved the game and must have played for 500 hours.
Got Morrowind after a while, rough start but eventually got to love it.
Got Skyrim, got bored pretty quickly, dragons are annoying, everyone is essential for whatever reasons, civil war is retarded, etc...
Was never able to finish Arena, or start it for that matter, whenever I come out of the sewer I died. Went halfway through the story of Daggerfall, got stuck in a gigantic maze.

You sleep rather soundly for a murderer.

>the start of Bethesda ripping features and mechanics out of the franchise.
That was actually Morrowind.

Attached: Morrowind vs Daggerfall.png (678x1444, 354K)

Would old TES players unironically have pre-morrowind graphics as long as the mechanics remain intact?

Yes, zoomer.

Attached: Daggerfall7.webm (640x480, 2.79M)

The lack of graphics is actually immersion breaking, it's a greater detriment than the mechanics displayed. People splat with 3 frames of blood and disappear. All guards do identical animations at all times and look the same regardless of angle due to sprites. The horse has perfect wasd movement and mouselook while only being 3 locked frames. Humongous generated map is basically empty. Lots and lots of copy pasted assets.

Is there really no cutoff point where graphics could step in a little more than the mechanics? Not saying Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim did everything right nor they couldn't be more mechanically complex even with "modern" graphics. Would you prefer a dwarf fort alike TES game before another Daggerfall alike TES game?

Honestly I would love the idea of sacrificing graphics in favor of gameplay and content.

Even to ACSII levels of abstract with mostly text based interactions? No level of gameplay mechanic cutoffs would be worth it even for basic 3D?

Skyblivion just released a trailer:
youtube.com/watch?v=68uUeZGppXw

Seems pretty cool

>Would you prefer a dwarf fort alike TES game before another Daggerfall alike TES game?
The thing is, Dwarf Fortress have no graphics at all, it's pretty much just symbols on a board, so nearly everything done and told require imagination to even conceive things, and that's why it's so great.
But as soon as you involve graphics, there's a minimum work required for it, that's why people dislike morrowind combat, you can't just say "You just have to imagine" when the action is clearly visually presented to you. They should have worked on the animation to represent the action, otherwise it's just your sword magically going through your opponent.

Unironically the GOAT

Morrowind = Skyrim (for different reasons) >>> Oblivion

I skipped TES4, was busy playing other shit during that era. If Morrowind was my favorite and I was able to enjoy Skyrim despite it being boring and empty, should I play Oblivion? What mods should I get to make it playable, I hear it has some dipshit scaling problem?

Soule*

The beginning of the end for the Elder Scrolls series, while it still has that Elder Scrolls charm it is the point in the series where they catered to the console market and started simplifying a lot of things out of the game and showing more lazy design decisions or simply bad ones, like the terrible level scaling.

>Skyrim
>good at anything
>equal of Morrowind
How do you live with such a shit taste? Do you also wear socks with your sandals?

This.

shit taste

If you were able to enjoy Skyrim, yeah you'll like Oblivion if you get past its graphics.
>I hear it has some dipshit scaling problem?
There is, imo it's not some much existing enemies scaling with you (bandits in daedric armor are still easy to deal with) but eventually it starts spawning enemies that are extremely tough to kill if you don't pay attention to leveling your attributes.

Why aren't you playing Morrowind on your phone right now?

JUST BUY IT

>goof
underrated
Jeremy Soule's OST is the life and blood of elder scrolls.

Skyrim had a lot wrong with it, but you can't pretend there were no redeeming qualities. I can guarentee you've played it for your fair share of time.

>thoughts on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
while not the most perfect Elder Scrolls game, is definitely one of the top 3
Level scaling in vanilla is why it can never truly be the best, why even have levels if the enemies will scale with you, you're completely robbed of the sense of progression as you won't feel stronger

Imagine if they put level scaling in a RPG like FF or DQ, no matter where you went the monsters would change to fit your level and you'll never have a moment of being an overpowered dick 1-hitting the lowest scrubs who once gave you trouble
That is Oblivion without mods

7.8/10, a game "open world" RPG fans have to do at least one playthrough

It's a strict upgrade from Oblivion in pretty much every way. Yea Forums is just contrarian for the sake of it.

Daggerfall is actually pretty playable with the Unity port as long as you enable the smaller dungeons setting.
I didn't bother with Arena because it runs like shit and the controls are garbage.

Attached: Daggerfall character3.png (2296x1440, 799K)

This, people say Skyrim had awful combat but Oblivion started the whole "swing until it dies" shit. It was worse than Skyrim in every way.

>you can't pretend there were no redeeming qualities
game felt like it was holding my hand the whole time, it felt more simplified than Oblivion and I took that as an insult
I missed punching ghosts, I missed having multiple "faceless" companions without mods, I missed running faster than horses and leaping great bounds to reach and try beating areas not as intended, every fucking dungeon was go through a straight line with the occasional go left or right a little then continue going down the map to reach a fucking lever that took you back to the start

Skyrim is just wack my dude

Oblivion? That shit has been in every game to date, only in prior games it was based more on dice rolls.

Oblivion is just the worst aspects of Morrowind and Skyrim combined. If you're looking for an RPG first, action adventure second, then Morrowind is the game to go to; if you're looking for an action adventure first, RPG second, Skyrim is the game to go to. Oblivion provides very little that the other two don't do better.

Not to mention that both games have infinitely better lore than Oblivion, barring The Shivering Isles, which is one of the franchise's strongest aspects.

Attached: Let the good times roll 3.jpg (859x1024, 106K)

worse setting, worse music, worse magic, worse guilds, worse characters, worse cities, worse side quests, worse lore, no Shivering Isles. Skyrim improves on melee combat, which is still trash, and graphical fidelity, but vanilla Skyrim looks like a cluttered fucking mess anywhere other than its forests and barren tundras

It didn't really added anything new compared to the previous game. It's not a bad game but the few new things are either just annoying things or useless.

People have memed "cozy" into the dirt, but Oblivion if nothing else is a legitimate example of a game that makes me feel nostalgic and cozy while playing. The potato faces, 3 voice actors voice acting everything, amazing OST, under appreciated UI/misc sound design, quest lines, quest writing, exploration, acrobatics leveling your actual speed and jump height, automatic perks, custom spells, rolling hills, pretty skyboxes and color palette all add up to a goofy and wonderful game.

Name a game with more kino AI than Oblivion.

It's comfy newfriend.
Lurk moar

Its not TES but it is Bethesda related

Should I buy the entire Fallout series for $18?

Why did Oblivion have the best ost of any video game ever released? It's so unfair. This one game has ruined music in video games for me for the rest of my life.

I don't know if my phone can't handle it and the installation seems pretty complicated.

Because Jeremy Soule had a near death experience before composing it and put everything he had into making it.

I love Oblivion but their decision to go back to the more generic fantasy theme after Morrowind was a huge mistake, they made Cyrodil so bland and generic.

I like it. Used to play Loli sex simulator on it,back when I had a weak PC.
Still have those mods installed, shits cash.

Do you have any other Fallout games or it's to buy the entire franchise?

I only have New Vegas, its $18 for the rest of the series.

>What are Yea Forums's thoughts on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?
I used to play it before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came out.

Attached: which team do you join.png (1108x673, 162K)

Then I took an arrow to the knee

What mods do I need for morrowind?

None.

shitty busted game but that's part of the charm

An overhaul that makes the combat not shit

I would recommend the unofficial patch but nothing else is really required

>that constant pausing destroying pace
>that obscenely bad balance
You sure showed him.

Going to sound like I'm just trying to be Yea Forums here but I don't think it's worth it. 3 isn't worth playing anymore and 4 is forgettable. You already have the best, 1 and 2 are worth it if you can get into it.

Balance is neither obtainable nor desirable for an RPG. The entire point of RPGs is to give players dynamic systems that the player can experiment with, often leading to breaking the game.

Attached: Let the good times roll 2.png (413x367, 333K)

>bad balance
The hell are you even talking about?

garbage
with amazing music tho, it probably has the best ost ever made

I know this is bait, but hes only pausing because he's exploiting custom spells that last 1-3 seconds, he made them short lasting so he could get more power out of it without needing anymore magicka than he already needs. Normal gameplay you just set the next/last spell scrolling to your mouse side buttons or the mouse wheel.

They're also showcasing new stuff on their twitch now

Don't pretend TES combat doesn't feature constant pausing mid fight, which ruins the pacing of combat.

But don't mods fix 3 and 4?

Well Morrowind doesn't, but yes, every other game does. Like I said, you never have to pause. Just set spell scrolling to the mouse wheel and you never have to pause or even stop running while you change. You can even change weapon scrolling to mouse 4&5 if you have it.

Just Skyrim and Oblivion. And those menus are considerably slower while Morrowind's is instantaneous and features everything on one screen.

Mods can fix 3 but they can't fix 4 shitty story.

not really. 3 is painfully poorly written and you can't fix the shit dialogue no matter how much you try, most of the quests are shit too and the story doesn't make sense, and the combat is so bad, so bad, bullets actually fail to spawn from your weapon if your framerate isn't consistent, and trust me, even on a 2080ti you might get FPS inconsistency because of the retarded engine.

4 is an okay shooter, but lacks content and the dialogue is gimped to a bioware style 4 choice wheel that is mostly just yes and no choices.

that being said I read that some of 3's DLCs are okay, but I never made it that far, played BoS expansion and it sucked shit too

I fucking hate the fade in/out fancy scrolling Skyrim does for its menus. It's slow as shit and really obnoxious by the time you've made any progress on a save. I feel like everything is delayed too, like selecting something or sheathing/drawing a weapon.

I hate the skill tree display in Skyrim for the exact same reason, it's constantly fighting with the fucking camera slow scrolling to get to the point you want to reach, a misclick and the camera ends in another skilltree.

>Playing on consoles

Attached: planescapeDrake.jpg (1303x856, 517K)

What the fuck are you on about? Skyrim's default UI was made for consoles and is unresponsive as shit on Mouse/KB

I'm playing on PC, you retard, it's because the fucking game is designed for console that everything about the UI is shit.

>What are mods

Attached: 1565846081309.png (853x720, 516K)

>Plays on PC
>Doesn't know how to fix the UI
>Calls other people retarded

You're the kinda guy who complains about how hard it is to eat your soup with a fork despite the fact that you have a spoon right in front of you.

"Mods will fix this" is the exact reason we are having this stupid problem, Bethesda just make a game for console, port it poorly on PC and then let people fix their shit for them for free.

based

My complaint is being forced to install mods to fix this when they could have simply not been retarded when designing their game. You can't play a Bethesda game without having to install a handful of mods just to fix their poor job.

comfy.

What went wrong?

Attached: Skyrim_UI.jpg (1288x6292, 1.28M)

>Worrying about balance in a single player RPG
>Not allowing the player to experiment and get really powerful with magic or otherwise if they really want to and go to the lengths to get that going
I see you belong to the no fun allowed club

Oblivion UI was unironic kino
>Parchment backgrounds
>Tells you everything you need to know about your character's stats concisely
>Loading screen has a progress bar instead of a spinning circle
Even the level up screen gave you positive reinforcement when you saw it.

I kinda wished that I went magic in that game just to make busted magic items.
But I'm sill killing lichs and ancient vampires no problem with just my fist

Guys, the webm is fun and all, but make some new ones. It's less and less convincing to folks when this is the only thing you can show off.

Best Bethesda game

I think the highlight of my morrowind run will be traveling with a Khajit with her stomach full of moon sugar and a naked nord. Shame I forgot to take any screenshot of it.

You have my ear, citizen.

Oh well I'll just take this posthumous screenshot of the dream party. It was fun while it lasted, but you shouldn't have asked a mage to help you with another mage.

Pretty good. Not as fun as Morrowind overall but messing around with the AI is something uniquely great in a way that no other game has replicated yet.

You forgot Sheogorath narrating this part

Illusion was the best since it didnt count as assault to trick a guard into paying your fine or Frenzying someone so they get annihilated by the guards.
