Ice climbers deserves a reimagining
Take the stamina, cooking and weapon degradation mechanics from botw, add some more complicated climbing and tell the player to climb a mountain.
And I say that as somebody who hated botw.

zelda 2 is fun. SMB3 is best though.
Absolutely based
It's tied between Ducktales and Baseball Simulator 1.000
Akumajo Densetsu (Castlevania 3)
Legend of Zelda
Metroid
I'm not the kind of person to have individual favorites though. In an unrelated note I just RGB modded my Twin Famicom and had no idea the NES could look this good.
Close call between Castlevania, Mega man 3, and SMB 3. NES is a based as fuck system with at least 20 must play games. Honorable mention to Contra, Castlevania 3, SMB, every NES Mega man, Zelda 1 & 2, and Metroid.
>SMB 3
Why does everyone ITT love Mario 3 so much? The levels are over before you even realize they've started.
Feels good to play, great music, great art style, perfect amount of challenge for a casual playthrough. Lots of content but the ability to quickly jump to late game if you want. It's an almost perfect 2d platformer.
Super Mario World and 64 are the only Mario games I like more.
Mr. Gimmick
every level is well-designed and the game progressively gets more challenging with each world. it's full of creative power-ups, enemies, and levels. it's just an amazing game all-around. length isn't a problem because that's how mario levels are meant to be: short and sweet. plus lots of levels are difficult enough to keep you playing for a while.
Adventure Island and the Kunio games were pretty kino
