Because Christianity is exotic in Japan. Same reason there's a ton of western games about classical/norse/egyptian mythology. Plus Japanese mythology is full of stories about the gods being petty, spiteful and antagonistic, so the concept of God being a gigantic asshole isn't something they'd be quick to reject.

I spent my whole life being atheist, and I see no reason to believe that any god exists, but frankly, it pays to follow something which fosters a sense of community and a sense of purpose, even when things are very bad. I don't believe in a god, but I have started praying, because expressions of gratitude actually help people to work harder, accomplish more, and be happier (based on David Desteno's research on "emotional success" ). You don't have to believe it's anything special that you are blessed with life or anything good you have received, just expressing joy for even small, inconsequential things that happen to you (ie. A second flavor packet in your instant ramen) can help you to improve your quality of life, and also, anybody who thinks that a sense of community isn't a benefit for you is simply not re-read on its benefits. Being alone and friendless is not the path to happiness or longevity, know that for sure.

Now all that said, I think that Ultima 4 is a great game which helps embody that sense of being virtuous and good. I think everybody should play that game.

My problem with religion is that it takes all that's good (and some bad) from nature and philosophy and science, and it claims those things for itself. But instead of giving credit to its sources, it presents itself as an absolute authority. For example, when society develops to the point where killing becomes distasteful religion steps forward and makes that same claim. Except there's none of the rationale backing it, it's just a moral authority. And the religion tells the people that authority comes from religion alone, discrediting all the years of human development that actually led to that change in society.

Christian but I'm not sure what type. The church I went to was a "baptist" church but it was in the Los Angeles area so not like "southern" baptist or deep south super conservative baptist. Some of the friends in the small youth group at least went to my high school so I knew them and random nights on week ends the youth leader would let us have game nights and use the rec room to host chill sleep overs/kick backs after a community service day or something like that.
In my experience I like smaller churches better than mega churches. I have my own gripes and questions towards religion but mega churches just reek of fake to me. On my dads side of the family (Mexican) any one religious is catholic for obvious reasons.
