4 is the popular one, can be intimidating with its large maps. 5 gets shit on alot but I think it has some of the best maps in the series. gaiden is an "acquired" taste, play the remake if you want to try it

As someone who has played only the first GBA Fire Emblem, and liked it but thought that some things were bullshit (like the characters speaking between them system, random as fuck) what games in the series should I play?
Sacred Stone looks dope and an upgrade in just about everything compared to the previous one, tried awakening a while ago but got bored with the intro, might try again, this list implies that most games in the series are bad or just okay but I think I'll get around to play the ones on the 3DS at least just because it's a comfy console.

You mean the Support system? Well Radiant Dawn (the Wii game) completely got rid of the Support conversations, but it's a direct sequel to Path of Radiance (the Gamecube game), which is 100% necessary to play before Radiant Dawn.

I'd highly recommend Sacred Stones or Awakening, both are extremely comfy.
The Support Conversations aren't random, it's based on how many turns your units have spent next to each other.

Yeah, instead it gives you Corrin who is still more than enough to solo every map before you get Ryoma. After that, Ryoma can solo the rest of the game, even on Lunatic.

Seth can solo the entire game from beginning to end without grinding

I don't remember the game bothering to tell me or suggesting this at all, I remember seeing one or two that were relevant to the current mission and then just assumed that it was extremely contextual.
It's a shame because many characters have lines when they die and they reference other characters but because I haven't seen their relationship grow even tho I use them all the time, I'm very frustrated thinking that I did something wrong.

Anyway thanks for telling me, I might peek at a guide the next time I play one of these just to get the gist of it.

Map design is annoying. Alms route is open fields and castles that with tight corridors that funnel your units and slow your movement. Celica route is open fields, deserts that slow your movement, and swamps that slow your movement while hurting you.

The game is also too far on the easy side imo. Everything else about the game is great.

Can't forget the cantors spamming nonstop reinforcements.

Where did this meme of Ryoma soloing the game come from? He's only a bit bulkier than Suzuhana and he has less speed which means he dodges less reliably. He's strong as fuck and Raijinto is great, but he's nowhere near "soloing maps" tier, especially on Lunatic. I had to take just as much care with him as anyone else to make sure he didn't die, or was I supposed to pour all my experience into him as soon as possible or some shit?

The new Three Houses is a good starting point, but it's a bit different from the other games. If you want a solid core FE, you should totally start with FE8 (Sacred Stones) on the GBA.

FE8 is really good for beginners. Don't listen to , those games are a real slog, especially FE7 where you have to do 11 or 12 tutorial missions.

I would've liked a bit more balance between pre and post timeskip. At the beginning of the game, I had to get balls deep into the time management, because there was so much shit to do and so little time. Post timeskip it was the other way around. I skipped through most months since there was nothing of value left to do except talk to the characters once for their input concerning the story developments.

3 is its own beast, was one of the most popular in Japan pre-awakening but is pretty antiquated. Play Shadow Dragon first then play book 2 of this

4 has a good story but in terms of gameplay prefers form over function.

5 is by far one of the best games in the series, it just has a lot of wierd mechanics that take a while to master

Judging by your pic I assume you played FE7. The first GBA game is actually FE6, which you should try because it's oddly a direct sequel to the one you played. It has slightly more straightforward maps but they are more difficult to make up for it. You'll have to emulate it or get a reproduction cart because it only released in Japan.

How are the characters in Conquest? I know the story is garbage and Corrin is at his most annoying, but what about everyone else? Also would any patches or fan translations fix it?

Not the user you are replying to but I found it's class balance to be really solid, the magic system had a lot of risk/reward to it, and the combat arts added a lot more versatility than the old skill systems.

Ive played the holy war all the GBA games and path of radiance I also own fates the one were you stick with the European side by I barely played that one. Stones was my first game but honestly in retrospect its probably the worst one ive played. My favorite is blazing blade with hector though im not sure why.

The characters are fine with some better than others. If you're just doing Conquest there's a storypatch that fixes a lot of the issues. I think you can use it with a fan translation of the jap game so you can still facepet.

I played it in japanese and they were mostly fine, a breath of fresh air compared to the paper thin shit in Awakening but nowhere close to Tellius char building.

Retainer x to Lord y who works with fellow Retainer z and is rivals with Retainer b to Lord w gets old but it's at least something, and there are a few surprising connections between characters here and there
