It just never sounds quite right, so the hope is that the Genesis mini will have perfect sound emulation and enough horsepower to upscale and play 32X, Sega CD games. You also hope that the controllers are great since they are USB and you can use them on other shit.

Altered Beast does suck, but it has historical significance for the Genesis. It was one of the launch games for the system and it showed that the Genesis was capable of converting arcade games to console much better than the NES could. Doesn't make it worth playing these days, but it's always there for a reason.

I had both too. The genesis was just the Sonic machine, in truth. We had all the Sonic game, including spinball. We also had Toejam & Earl 1 and 2. And a few other throwaway titles.
But the SNES was the real machine. We had a diverse library on that. After getting into emulation and trying all the Sega games I wanted, I confirmed that we owned all the good game. The remaining library is trash. Meanwhile, emulating SNES games made me realize just how many great titles we didn't own. SNES emulation expanded my library and tastes immensely.

I truly feel sorry for Genesis/Master System only homes.

I rented all the Sonic games, but I could only beat 2. The damn barrel stopped me three times in a row in Sonic 3.

I also rented Spinball but it took me all day just to beat the first boss.
