Prior to Nightfall the best party healer for PvE was an E/Mo or an N/Mo spamming heal party. After Nightfall an Light of Deliverance Monk was the best. You may remember it that way because 99% of PvE healers were really bad and ran horribly inefficient spells like heal other.
Hmm... E/Mo makes sense because Elementalists have 125 energy or so. I genuinely never saw a E/Mo healer or N/Mo healer. Everybody went Rit/Mo and Mo/Rit for healing. Going to have to try out someday.
best PvE healer was literally N/Rt I did almost every area with just heroes on hardmode using them to heal.
Blake Young
E/Mos don't even need energy. The point to E/Mo is just running ER and prot bonding everyone for free infuses all day. It wasn't as effective as a monk in straight healing but it was otherwise a staple mitigator that saw action in any meta comp for super high damage areas. The reason N/Mo is shit is because Monk heals are pretty lackluster independent of Divine Favor bonuses compared to what Rit heals could do for the same cost. But after UA/HB became a thing (which I suppose is a nod to the NF separation that you mention) plus Seed of Life, Monks push the highest redbar numbers, but it's all linked through Divine Favor thus requiring Monk primary. At that point Necro healers were really only a thing because heroes could benefit hugely from Soul Reaping since they have no real ability for energy management. Any player running a Necro healer seems very scrappy, perhaps a situation where no one could reroll and it just had to be done. It's really more of a separation between player-effective builds and hero-effective builds.
Parker Campbell
Heroes were better than players at some builds.
Jack Lee
>two minion factory heroes keeping death nova up on everything that moves bueno
John Ward
>when you kill everything before minions even get in range I just ended up dropping it after awhile. It has use on some classes though.
I wonder if there's a program which modifies the hero AI to better. I would have liked GW1 to have an editor and have a singleplayer mode for sandbox and content reasons.
Dylan Garcia
I remember pre update Ritual Lord and Soul Twisting doing almost the same thing. Now Ritual Lord gives +4 attributes to all ritualist attributes.
>When you animated only range-based minions and it took 2.5x as long to build an army of 10. But God did they rape with 18 death magic... any target they set their eyes on... minus 500 hp
Ritualist had tons of variety in his spirits compared to MM.
Samuel Thompson
I do still enjoy running a AotL+Barbs+EBSoH in Proph vanquishes since the mobs very rarely ball themselves up. The amount of single target cleanup that combo brings is not even fair. Coventina the Matron would cry from that, even.
Carson Bennett
>tfw I stopped playing before AotL, Masochism or before most PVE rebalances. Was fun vanquishing as Elementalist without good class pve skills and opponents having 100+ armor with 3 heroes limit. They barely had any morale boost items or consumables either.
Juan Bennett
What were those charr gonna do to that swimming human female?
Michael Baker
Elementalist, while still completely outclassed by literally every other caster, is actually quite a bit of fun to play now. They retooled exhaustion into "overcast" and changed a bunch of abilities to have additional effects when cast while the player has overcast on them. My favorite gimmick build was to run Master of Magic with some overcast skills from each school; Incendiary Bonds (to get overcast), Ash Blast, Flare, Swirling Aura, Smoldering Embers. It's not really powerful but it was definitely a lot more fun to play.
Caleb Carter
That elementalist update was a far cry from how detailed GW1 skills could had been. I know they also tried to make the attributes have more synergy.

How did Spirit Spammer compare to Minion Master?
Colton Baker
Funniest most badass spell ability images ever.
Ian Harris
>Guild Wars? More like Guild Yawns.
Shit mmo.
Matthew Reed
Spirit spammer was a bit more versatile I'd estimate, since spirits couldn't be the target of hexes or conditions which made them good at soaking opening aggro, could be healed more for less cost, had shorter activation and recharge, and could even be sacrified on command at a moment's notice for AoE blind or party healing. But hero spirit spammers are kind of shitty for lacking summon spirits, or the discretion to sacrifice spirits tactfully (heroes just spam skills with disregard). So basically, for a player, bring SoS, for a hero, give them minions.
Landon Thomas
I wish 70% of the skills didn't have casting time and after cast delay. I can understand for stuff like Meteor Shower, but not for derv, assassin, ranger enchantments, ritualists.
How do I summon the spammer to Yea Forums? GW2 sucks
Anthony Flores
I miss setting up a hero team to syngergise perfectly together, shitters always cried about 7 hero parties but I'd take 4 henchman before a single player everytime >Just play an RPG Modern RPG's don't have the depth Guild Wars offered
I wanted to do something of a randomized challenge build for repeating some old content, so maybe I'll post it in this thread.
I need some anons to pick 6 schools of abilities (reserving one for player, one for healer) or maybe more specifically even, 6 elite skills, and I'll try to rig together a scrappy teambuild for them to do some dungeons. Maybe Rragar or Vlox, those being my favorites. Any takers?
Nathan Flores
The casting time was supposedly there to give time to rangers and mesmers to interrupt you and the after cast delay supposedly so you don't use 5 spells in 0.25 seconds. However the Ranger and Warrior and Monks' were common sensical compared to the assassin and ritualist and even paragon which jumped the shark.
Aaron Jenkins
What do you mean by school of abilities? and the next clusterfuck sentence you said afterwards? you're going to have to communicate better.
I remember that without armor of unfeeling and painful bond they were very mediocre. Summon Spirits was annoying because you had to stop to summon it and you could rearrange your spirits in the formation you wanted. Just like MM, you could not select each spirit to attack whoever you wanted, it was all or nothing.
Caleb Murphy
Using faces for MTG cards was the best idea ever.
Aaron Edwards
>domination magic >communing >water magic >motivation >tactics >wind prayers >divine favor >etc It's not hard. Pick 6 schools of abilities, or more specifically 6 elite skills if you want to do it that way (since picking elite skills specifically is a lot more stringent than just saying "fire magic," seeing as you could give me the shitty elite skill or give me the benefit of picking the best elite skill in a lackluster school), and I'm going to try and rig together a scrappy little teambuild out of it to clear some tougher dungeons.
Dominic Baker
You are now reminded of the massive sync dances with Frosty and JackMcDaniels' few but good music videos.
Heroes are ALWAYS better healers than players, it's impossible for a player to be as good as a hero.
Justin Watson
Heroes couldn't use 50% of builds of skills if not more. They were garbage at energy management and utilizing skills correctly.
I had to constantly manually enchant their idiotic asses and make them manually cast skills like Assassin's Promise. Heroes also couldn't detect AoE worth a shit.
Xavier Anderson
I feel bad for your experience in the game if it tainted your memory so far as to give you that kind of opinion. You have my condolences, sincerely.
Luke Myers
>I had to constantly manually enchant their idiotic asses and make them manually cast skills like Assassin's Promise
Niceguy mode: Use a snare-based Water Magic with some Communing from the Rit. Use Deep Freeze and AoE/Nuker Elementalist/Assassin with Sin's Promise.
Asshole mode: Dervish/Ranger Assassin/Ele Ele/Deadly Arts Warrior/Ranger Water+Fire Ele
Samuel Rodriguez
Should have went for the Searing Flames meme.
Lucas Price
What was ER again?
Charles Fisher
I forgot about that entirely, there was a SF meme build for a while wasn't there? I can't remember the team build for it for the life of me though what was it?
You gain energy and HP for every enchantment on you, that's why it was so good for protection spells
Nolan Peterson
Jesus Christ the discussion about the assassin on the GW wiki are so fucking beta.
The assassin gets shat on by the jealous opposing force that shadow form ruin their precious farming and speedclears. Meanwhile the majority of assassin players don't whine that their class is underpowered and plays like shit they actually constantly try to backpedal and tolerate it with the dignity of a stockholm syndrome beaten up "Sins aren't underpowered!! see? I got a whole 80 DPS !! a whole 80 DPS" when other professions deal 200-250 damage in 1 second.
Anthony Watson
This might be the hottest garbage I've ever produced. Problem is now I'll have to try and gear these heroes that are never used (as they rightfully shouldn't be).
Honestly, with all those remasters going around, couldn’t we get one with GW1 ? It would be 100 times better than that turd gw2
Ethan Barnes
There's no money in it, the diehards continue to play GW1 and would be unlikely to abandon their entire accumulated in-game economy at this point. They'd probably fuck something up with the mechanical underpinnings of the skills too, I don't trust nu-ANet's ability to create a 1:1 game with simple visual enhancements. Although I would be welcoming of the idea of an offline standalone client for the inevitable day NCSoft vetos the entire game's existence down a memory hole because it's no longer profitable.
Parker Wilson
is gw2 profitable for them at this point ? I more think of it as containment game for ncsoft.
Gabriel Butler
That's some hot shit, son.
Now let's try the good ones: Mesmer/Ele Ranger/Warrior Paragon/Warrior Rit/Necro Minion Master Monk/A shadowstepping healer
And more shit !! Ranger/Dervish, Ranger/Sin Sin+Beast Mastery Ranger/Paragon Warrior/Paragon Me/A Illusion+Deadly Arts Rit/Pa Restoration+Motivation (and what else Paragons have) Rit/Ranger Rit/Assassin
Camden Williams
At this point I'm just gonna work on the first one. Unfortunately I had to actually go recruit a sin hero because I didn't even have one (shocking, no?), but also powerlevel her up to 20 and collect a few skills and craft some weapon sets since probably 90% of my melee weapon stash are nice caster modded skins. I won't be able to do the challenge right away but I'll keep in the tuck for when I play next time.
