Can anybody confirm if claiming free games from epic stores costs them any money?

The best part of this whole Epic v. Steam debacle is that every improvement steam does from now on people will attribute to MUH COMPETITION from epic when steam has always had updates to their store every year.

How do you exist for 9 months and think this strategy is viable long term? What happens with Fortnite goes under and you have no cash cows to fall back on except Unreal licensing? If CSGO died right now Valve still has Dota 2, TF2, and underlords raking in money, that's not even counting the store. Epic literally survives on one game.

Basically. The Fortnite team is working 100+ hours a week to keep releasing content and maintain the hype. They're also working on UE4 with quarterly releases for that.

Even with all that though, you'd think they would hire a few dozen people just to work on the store. Of all their products it's the one that needs the most work right now.

It actually does help developers because more people are willing to pre purchase if they can preload the game and play it on release day, instead of thousands of people trying to download the game at once and overloading the servers. You also run the risk of some of those consumers just buying another game instead.
