It will succeed but there's literally nothing to do end game except raidlog until the next patch. After Naxx the servers will die, just like the private servers. There's a reason nost/elysium/lights hope kept opening fresh servers every 4 months. Vanilla has zero longevity. My pipedream hope is that they'll branch off from retail like OSRS did and make expansions/content in the spirit of vanilla. But in reality they'll offer transfers to retail servers after you hit 60 and maybe 4-5 years down the line they'll make BTC realms that you can transfer to.

There was some difficulty with learning how things worked, like the hit rate. Lot of people had no idea that "chance to hit" increases could so dramatically increase your damage on bosses. And then you had bosses who a lot of people never really learned that well because they couldn't see what was happening with 39 other people around, like with the first boss in BWL, it was such a clusterfuck for those learning that you could beat your head against the encounter and just not understand what all was happening around you.
