How do you guys feel seeing Zoomers posting nostalgia for 2005-2013 gaming and saying it was the golden age? Were the ranters who hated 7th gen and missed the 90s wrong?
How do you guys feel seeing Zoomers posting nostalgia for 2005-2013 gaming and saying it was the golden age...
It was the golden age of consoles.
So were the oldfags who circlejerked on Yea Forums about 4th-6th gens back in 2015 wrong?
Zoomer nostalgia is why Halo Online/El-Dewito was so popular and also why hype for MCC on Steam is explosive.
COD4 justifiably elevated the franchise to its golden age
MW2 was made with the logic more money = better, but it was just balanced by idiots and the added accent on various air strikes with crappy maps devalued the game heavily
the later games were even more meh, crappy, chaotic maps with no flow, basically playing a team game in a FFA map, shit
In the end, the franchise was nothing more than a money cow, it was thoroughly mediocre save for the (at the time) new things for MP shooters COD 4 brought us
I'm sure many people profited quite nicely, and it has a lot of fans, but its legacy is nothing special.
I'm 26 and i have nostalgia for that
Used to get high on clonazepam and play with a friend every day
This game was tight, last cod i played
I was a Gen 4 kid. Gens 4-7 were peak vidya. The decline began in Gen 7 so it's not as good as previous gens but it was also probably the last good gen.
Any future kids who are nostalgic for anything that came out after the PS3/360 ARE full of shit but there are legit reasons to fondly remember Gen 7.
Most of the young nostalgiafags are pining for CoD and other shit though, which is exactly what killed vidya, so they're also wrong.
I feel more nostalgia for MW2 than zelda, banjo kazooie, sonic or any other game I did as a kid. I think it's because 17 was probably the last time I was "happy"
>also why hype for MCC on Steam is explosive
I wouldn't say "hype" but I like the Halo games well enough despite being a boomer. They're more fun than a lot of other Gen 7 shit like CoD and Gears of War.
The same way I felt when I was on Yea Forums in 2005 and saw late 90s kids acting like games before the PS1 never existed. But I had started with the NES.
It ultimately shows video games are for kids and they will eventually outgrown them one day
They rank high but I think a golden age has to balance creativity with mainstream appeal. Seventh Gen did this the best but I don't like that this is the case - other generations were far more creative.
That's pretty damn cringe, and retarded as well. I grew up with the PSX and recognize that not even that period (the late 90s) was the golden age. Yeah, we can say that it was, and it certainly seems like it from the perspective of today, but it wasn't really. The real golden age of gaming was between 1988 to 1994 or so. That period, I never experienced, but that was the golden age.
just as it was with us, stupid but inevitable. I kinda a lot of the trends that seemed to start here though, microtransactions, loot boxes, and just shooters being such a dominant genre such that every game needs some kind of gunplay in it. Also a lot of the kids from this era are obnoxious and never really grew up.
Literally any man can sit down and enjoy a few rounds of a solid shooter game, a good game is entertainment for all, you don't "outgrow" it, you get bored of the samey profit driven market after experiencing what is has to offer
>people are nostalgic for their childhood
wow big fucking surprise
>time moves forward
Now you have embryos here that never even played a PS2.
Ok, but I have another question why do you care so much?
>get off school at 2:15
What the fuck
What times do americans go to school at?
Over here it's 9am to 3:30pm
Do americans start at 7am or do they just spend way way less time at school then other countries??????
Your post is the same thing that we feel, just with a different game on a different platform. They weren't having fake fun.
School in America is usually from 8am to around 2:30pm
Cities with lots of schools usually have staggered schedules so that the buses can have time to take everyone home in shifts, instead of thousands of buses on the road during rush hour.
Generally, highschool kids wake up at the asscrack of dawn and get out early afternoon.
>party with your friends
>picture is FFA
It's been a long time since I was in school but IIRC mine was 7:50-3:30 or something like that.
WHat was the end of the boomer era of games? Obviously it starts whatever year you think 90s FPS were gaining traction but I still see ps2 games get called boomer-core and the ps3 came out in like 06-07.
You're missing the point entirely. It's not about whether they had fun or not. Try to understand what "the golden age" means.
ME AND MY ZOOMERS GET NO RESPECT
I have such a hatred of people enjoying things that even bittersweet nostalgia enrages me.
Last time I checked its 7:50-2:50 here in indy the land of corn
Glad and sorta jealous for them because for all the people 5-10 years older they got to experience the rapid decline of movies, vidya, and music from when they were younger and then again when they were young adults.
It’s sad because you can’t even say we’re jaded, most younger people watch streamers over oc internet videos, play popular games like fortnite over new AAA, watch stream service originals over new tv shows, and only really care about movies belonging to an established franchise like avengers they know to be “good”. In fact so many things other than that being hyped are a recreation or re imagination of something older it feels like creativity dead while popularity and identity reign.
I didn't have any friends
I've always considered the launch of 7th gen consoles around 2006 to be the end of the Golden age. That's when I noticed this hobby started getting worse for me.
School went from 7AM to 1:25PM.
Never again man.
xbox 360 and ps3 were fucking garbage and ruined games
>7-1:25
Try 7 to fucking 4
Sounds a lot better than 8AM to 5PM.
>In fact so many things other than that being hyped are a recreation or re imagination of something older
This is interesting to me. We had a few "retro" trends when I was growing up (I'm 33) but nothing like the crazy obsession with an imaginary version of the '80s and early '90s that zoomers seem to have. I guess it's a sign that we live in a shitty era where everything has become so soulless and disposable that people have to look back on times they didn't even live through.
Yeah, that seems about right to me as well. I think it's because that's when everything went multiplatform.
I just don't care anymore. I realize I am too old for video games now and not because I am actually too old. I'm simply too old because society and zoomer shits like most on Yea Forums demand that there is an expiration date for fun. Seriously fuck them. Once these fags become old the young will shit on their favorites. Hell their favorite games get shitted on now. People will just continue to have more and more awful taste in gaming over the years.
>people that were born at a different time to me have different experiences in life
Wow fucking shocking revelations, no wonder you make this thread all the fucking time!
>I think it's because that's when everything went multiplatform.
But multiplatform is pro-consumer..
black ops 2 was the last good cod.
go listen to skrillex
World at War was the last good CoD
ive been playing waw a lot lately as well
am i an ancient gamer yet?
The last good CoD was United Offensive.
Fuck outta here zoomers.
8:30 to 3:30pm here in maple syrup land.
But it's anti-gamer, because every game has to be compromised to appeal to multiple very different audiences and to run on very different hardware. It's probably the worst with FPSes, they're fucked these days because they're all stuck between M+KB and controller balancing and between trying to appeal to hardcore genre veterans and casuals who'll only play them for a month and want instant gratification with no learning curve.
>thinking vidya has declined in quality at all
theautismblog.seattlechildrens.org
90s was kind of like the apparent peak for things like special effects and new creativity in movies, in music various emerging new genres and recording quality and effects, video games becoming very complex, popular, and 3d emerging, and cartoons finally being good again.
In contrast the 00s was mostly just refining all those things and the development of online communities and internet culture a lot of which died or became assimilated when social media became big.
9 - 3
Pretty based schedule
It was like 7AM to 2PM or something. My bus driver, who was a nigger, was 30 minutes late everyday.
Imagine letting your zoomer son grow up with that garbage Lmao
I told my 8 year old son back in 2010 if he wanted to play video games, he could play in my classic consoles.
Now he thanks me I forced him through these old games, as he got to experience each generation on cronological order.
I have a daughter as well but she is not allowed to play video games because it's not something for girls.
>screams internally
>she is drawn physically screaming
Fuck me I had 8:15 to 4:15

no because im not developmentally stunted
Top Mark's for trying to read
Golden age of consoles was SNES to beginning of PS2.
I reiterate
I agree. Make PC the main focus of gaming again. Consoles can fuck off.
The 7th gen is utter garbage. The only things that were remotely good were the handhelds and about 20-25 console/pc games. I will never accept their nostalgia as valid. And I will readily accept 8th gen nostalgia when the time comes because even it is noticeably better than the 7th gen
2000-2005 was basically part of the 90s, culturally.
2006-2009 were like a hybrid between the golden days of yore (90s), and Shitworld (2010s).
The 2000s didn't really have its own unique identity like other decades do.
>And I will readily accept 8th gen nostalgia when the time comes because even it is noticeably better than the 7th gen
In what fucking way?
Wanna know how I know you failed school?
>Were the ranters who hated 7th gen and missed the 90s wrong?
Future generations will go back and play gamed from 1999. Games from that era will be re-released multiple times. Deus Ex will always be installed. Super Mario 64 will always be fun.
No one will go back and play Blops 2. No one.

Golden Age: 1987-1994
Silver Age: 1995-2000
Copper Age: 2001-2006
Bronze Age: 2007-2014
Iron Age: 2015-present
Plastic age coming, unless Kojima prevents it.
It was tho
1990 thru like 2012
Was the golden age
Sure the 360 and ps3 had all the cancer trenda introduced but it was still fun
Meanwhile on ps4 all the games i own are japanese or remasters outside of titanfall 2 dying light and far cry 5 ( dont judge me )
5 sucks rip
1996-2007 is the golden age
6th gen > 5th gen >>>>> 7th gen > horse manure > 8th gen
Where the fuck is nostalgia for the early 2000s? Did we just skip?
Hype for MCC Steam completely died.
People who are within their young adult to pre middle age phase shall always despise adolescents as they will never have the privilege of being a child ever again.
Everyone has a golden age of their childhood that we hold dearly into our adult years, the zoombers of yesteryear have become the boomers of today. I assure you there will come a day when games like overwatch, grand theft auto V and maybe even fortnite will be viewed the same way as we view games like Halo 2, San Andreas or WOW, because some new big line of games will have come along to replace those games as they fade into obscurity. I feel the only thing seperating zoomers from the boomers of yesteryear is how videogames have irreversibly become mainstream. The cycle will never end, nor get better. We will all hate those who have what we had once lived.
2009-2013 was one of the worst stretches of time since WW2 in all aspects. Gaming wise it wasn't great either. Maybe you could argue there were better and less soulless games back then but if you consider that era as your childhood, you don't belong on Yea Forums. Go back to plebbit where you belong.
Consoles would be fine if they went back to having their own distinct types of games and didn't dilute them to try to appeal to players on other platforms. I'll stick to PC myself, though, that's where the genres I like belong anyway.
I remember when the Germans occupied Wall Street and started bombing southern California in 2009.
>old Yea Forums would throw a shitfit if people tried bringing CoD or any other EA/Activision FPS into topics
>new-Yea Forums welcomes it with open arms
The good old days are indeed gone forever.
Imagine actually supporting the invasion of redditor teenagers on Yea Forums. Oh wait, you probably are one. End your life, zoomer scum.
Nowadays it's somehow bad to be an oldfag. It's really pathetic how zoomers took over but it was inevitable, seeing as how Yea Forums got so popular over the years to the point where you have faggots greentexting outside of imageboards and using Yea Forums memes on reddit, twitter and facebook. Naturally kids would come here and shit up the place as they always do.
>waaaaa people who aren't me experienced a different life
Your kind doesn't belong here

>waaa why don't you jerk off to nostalgia the same way I do
Maybe you should go fag.
here in brazil i would usually got to school in the morning so it something like 6:30 am to 12:00 or something like that.
Halo and Gears of War are boomer nostalgia franchises and completely irrelevant nowadays. Halo 5 and Gears 4 flopped, and Gears 5 is also set to bomb. Zoomers do not care about them at all.

What Vidya related thing from 2013 you remember fondly Yea Forums?
I remember playing Monster Hunter 3U for 3DS with three friends between classes during University, it was pretty chill
Is this unironically your retort? NO U?

6th gen was the last good era for consoles. Most of the good games in the 7th gen got pc ports that were better than the console versions.

im one of them
In my HS it was 2:10
>nothing like the crazy obsession with an imaginary version of the '80s and early '90s that zoomers seem to have
Did you completely forget about everything fellating the 50s back in the 80s or something?
>Where the fuck is nostalgia for the early 2000s? Did we just skip?
It already happened on the internet around 2015-2018. During that time people were making memes about stuff like Spy kids, skater punk (pic related), purple ketchup, Y2K aesthetic, and Shrek.
90s nostalgia peaked on the internet around 2008-2015, when Buzzfeed/Facebook/Leddit/9gag kept referencing the 90s every five seconds.
Now in 2018-2019, the Internet's already moved onto LATE 00s-early 10s nostalgia for stuff like Cool math games, Minecraft, iCarly, and party rock anthem.
It's weird, but the nostalgia cycles move really rapid on the internet compared to real life, where's it's still stuck on LE 80S (Stranger things, Ready player one).

>2000-2005 was basically part of the 90s, culturally.
No they weren't. Even 98-99 felt different from the "core 90s" of 1993-1997.
People used to consider 98-99 stuff like Britney, Woodstock 99, Blink 182, Sex & the City, Slipknot, American Pie, Linkin Park, Ozzfest, Toonami, That 70s Show, Creed, DVDs, Eminem, Napster and Believe by Cher to be strictly 2000s culture or proto-2000s. But now everyone says "90s culture ended on 9/11" even though 98-01 used to be lumped with 02-03.
I literally just said 90s culture ended in 2006, and you're saying I said it ended on 9/11.
And people who don't think Britney, Blinky-192, Eminem, and all the others are just as 90s as Nirvana and Tupac are idiots. Stop being a brainwashed conservative and learn to analyze time periods objectively.
Don't even bother responding to this post, because I don't give a shit what you think. You're wrong, and you need to shut the fuck up about things you don't know anything about.
Vast majority of games before 1990 are bad and vast majority of games after 2010 are bad
How the hell was a time where companies were dying or pumping out homogenized games everywhere a "golden age"?
It was also the era where DLC jewery really kicked off.
That was mostly before I was born, and I was talking about when I was in my teens and very early 20s, thought that was obvious since that's the age most of these '80s/'90s obsessed zoomers are now. In that era there was a little bit of a '70s throwback thing, largely spurred by That '70s Show, but nothing close to what zoomers have with quasi-'80s stuff.
Depends. In Elementary school it was 8 to 2:30, Middle it was 8 to 3:30, high school was from 8:10 to 3:42.
I only remember the last one because I was always running late.
Also in Idaho you would get out an hour early on Mondays.
True golden age was 1990-2005, then the medium brutally died as the USA infested consoles and killed pc gaming.
>Vast majority of games before 1990 are bad
At least you're not saying before 2000 like most zoomers say these days
As I said vast majority of games before 1990 are bad. Most NES games are terrible. Games only really got good with the SNES and MEGADRIVE and games got shit again when the PS4 and Xbox 1 came out.
Perhaps earlier than 2005. Microshit getting involved was the beginning of the end. They were ones who introduced the paid online scam that went on to infect Sony and then Nintendo, as well as pushing dudebro console shooters which tainted the industry in general.
It's not a matter of it being in the past. It is still to this date the single worst generation for video games.
People are always going to be nostalgic for things they enjoyed in their childhood
and the previous generation is always going to claim that it was the literal worst generation of
This gen is much worse than last gen. There isnt even 5 good games this gen across all consoles and pc combined
ERA I GREW UP WITH GOOD
ERA AFTER BAD
ERA BEFORE AGED LIKE MILK
This desu. I was born in 1990 and loved everything from snes/megadrive to ps3/xbox 360 but hated this gen.
>simpler times
No, simpler times was walking home from school with your friends, going to a friends house, playing basketball or football, getting into some trouble, and only playing video games in the evening once it got dark outside. How pathetic must Zoomers have been, you all go to your desperate houses and rooms to 'hang out', fucking pathetic. Definition of loser behavior
I don't know. I think every generation and year has a few amazing games come out. It's also not very surprising to see people nostalgic for simpler times. Keep in mind 2012 when this stuff was popular was 7 years ago, the 13-15 year olds are now either in college or in the workforce. It's not like they're still kids, and it's only natural to reminisce about your childhood in the same fashion that 90s/80s/70s kid did at that time.
I just say enjoy stuff regardless of the time period. If you enjoy 1920s swing then go for it, if you enjoy modern indie rock than sure, that's cool as well. Restricting yourself to certain generations or genres or anything really just doesn't allow you to grow as a person.
All this "I am better than you because I am older than you" is just childish and in general doesn't add too much to whatever conversation currently being had, as it can literally be boiled down into what he said
Translation: I don't want to acknowledge the possibility that my childhood was inferior.
Please define "zoomers".
*Your separate houses and rooms

Meme name for Gen Z, came up with to contrast aging Millennials being nicknamed "boomers"?
People are always going to be nostalgic about the fun times they had in the past.
>come home from school

Soon to be
>come home from work
>log into WoW to level my rogue
Nothing seems to have changed
>mostly because i know it sucked because i got dragged from a populated city to the sticks when i was 10
>please fucking kill me i've missed out on everything i wanted out of my childhood
As someone else with a broken upbringing, you have my condolences.
If utter shit like oblivion and FO3 is nostalgic to you.
Ok, cool. Now define Gen Z.
I'm going somewhere with this, so don't leave me hanging.
I only dislike zoomers because of their multiplayer obsession.
inb4 cinematic nogaems like Uncharted, mid to late 20s sois are all I see playing those.
Very few Zoomers enjoy single player games with both good plot and good gameplay, they have no standards. they embody the "IT'S FUN WITH FRIENDS!" mentality and I hate it.
But that doesn't mean they should be excused from understanding the things that were wrong with it.
I probably had it better than you, but thanks user and same to you
I'm 29 and loved Oblivion
2006-2012 was the golden era for MP shooters
dont @ me
Things have arguably gotten worse with the rise of multiplayer games being live services. Objectivity the shit in the OP image does constitute a simpler time
The generation that comes after Gen Y aka Millennials.
Generations are hard to categorize and partly bullshit due to humans breeding 24/7, meaning cut-offs are pretty arbitrary. Seriously speaking, generations should be considered an ever growing spectrum. Not to mention that people can have greatly different upbringings and environments, resulting in two people of the "same generation" having little in common.
Cool, cool. Here's an alternative. Generations don't exist, and people should be categorized by personalities rather than years of birth.
Like, I'm sorry, how is someone born in 1980 the same generation as someone born in 1994? Someone who was born when someone else was already in high school isn't of the same generation. Just, no.
>That comma usage
Holy shit please kill yourself for the good of humanity.
Nice ad hom. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong. I'll wait.
cringe. don't post anymore
this thread is full of forced meme cock suckers
The worst thing is that even though multiplayer games are popular, couch co-op is pretty much dead.
The only meme that was forced was you when your mom gave birth to your fatass

>younger people cant have nostalgia!!!!
Die, boomer
I'm sorry, are people who grew up with Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Avril Lavigne, Web 1.0, Newgrounds, and MP3 Players not "old-school"? I suppose it's all relative, but that's pretty old-school to me.
Which? The new one?
The first Modern Warfare
I think you have the right idea but need to flesh it out better. It isn't only that generations are too long, it's that societal (unironical) memes advance similar to technology. Exponentially, after the internet. My buddies' younger brother is a few years younger than me and may as well be a different species. People ten years younger, having grown up entirely on the internet yelling about monkas poggers are just some kinda nonsensical retards to me. The generational gaps are shrinking, now, on a cultural front.
if you dont remember when tupac died then you dont rate.
Nah. 1970-2005 are pure old-school years. 2006-2009 are old-school/new-school hybrid years. Everything after is new-school crap.
If you grew up with all the things I listed, as many people born in the late 90s did, and you still enjoy them, then the way I see it you're old-school.
Bruh, I was born, like, two months after he died.
by 2013 I already had flunked out of 2 colleges and gotten married. This image makes me feel old as fuck.
>STOP CALLING PEOPLE BORN IN THE LATE 90S OLD SCHOOL!!! I WANNA BE UNIQUE!!!!!!

it's not my fault all the good music, movies, and games are from the 80s and 90s
1970-2005, my friend.
1970-2005.
lmao gottem
That's not an ad hom, though. It's just a garden variety personal attack.
Yes, and you didn't even have to watch them when they first came out. All you had to do was have your dads take you Hollywood video.
And then go to some local mom and pop record store for music and cool old stuff.
There should unironically be an internet for people over 25
I called this guy a fag in r6 siege and he started whining on the mic and sounded like he was 13
It's understandable to have enjoyed Gen 7 enough to feel nostalgia for it one day though. This gen I have no idea since Nintendo and Microsoft put out emulators instead of real consoles and Sony put out a new Blu-ray player. Between the three consoles there might be one complete generation's worth of decent games.
*take you to
Wrong. Halo CE, 203 are all boomer core. If you're around 30, Halo 3 would have come out when you were around 18 years old. Zoomers would have been 10 year olds.
Stuff like this about 2007-2008 gets me. Right when I was in middle school and gaming was all that mattered. And fapping of course.
What about a game for people at least 25 and own a computer?
I have favorite games from every gen. And I've played through most of the top tier games of those gens on retroarch.
I'm 18.
There was never a golden age. Your golden age was just nostalgia. Your picture proves it.
It's an impersonal ad hom. He criticized my way of talking rather than my argument. I'd call that a form of ad hom.
I actually agree with you to an extent. I think there should be two Internets. One for Web 1.0 (80s-mid-2009) and one for Web 2.0 (2006-present). They should be completely segregated, so that we don't have any Twitter/Instagram/Snapchat spillover in the good parts (Newgrounds, SA, Yea Forums, etc...)
Ideally, Twitter and Instagram and Snapchat wouldn't exist, and all the phonedrone pieces of shit would be kicked off the Internet, but right now, I think a two-Internet solution might be the best course of action.
i love and miss kenzi
You’re a faggot ass edge teen that doesn’t understand shit. You’ll begin to understand that within a couple of years.
This isn't what it's about, although to some people it might be, and they are stupid, I agree with you, no one should have a pissing contest about whose childhood was better than someone else's. It's annoying to boomers because the games that they grew up with were so much worse than what they grew up with it makes them sad to see someone talking about some awful game in an nostalgiac way while being half the experience countless other games were. There's always going to be people thinking their childhood or the past was greater or more valid, that's forever going to be a reality, but there are also situations where the past literally WAS better, and people who have lived through it can tell the tale. If you are going to get old and never adjust to modern times, like some old grandpa who whines over the internet who doesn't even know how to use it, yes you are stupid. But to say that games had more love and effort put into them, and that things were different and in a very strong argument, different in a better way, is not at all wrong. It doesn't mean either though that that person's childhood is invalid because they played some terrible game. It is just difficult for someone who has experienced the true peak of something to empathize with someone nostalgiaing over essentially what is considered garbage to anyone who has a taste in games. Like eating some fine ramen in a Japanese restauraunt as opposed to someone moaning for some cup noodles. That's how they feel, and they aren't wrong for struggling to give validity to them.
Who is gonna read all this shit
>There was never a golden age. Your golden age was just nostalgia.
Gen 4 had fantastic games coming out seemingly every few weeks. I'm a Gen 5babby but Gen 4 legitimately seems like the peak and 5-7 was a slow decline into the drizzling shits of today
Shame she has cancer
exposing your young age does not equate in having good taste in anything
the sooner you realize that the better
at 18 it's hard to even know what nostalgia is because you're still just a mental baby child who thinks he's an adult
>Halo and Gears of War are boomer nostalgia franchises
I miss Gears 2. That was a fun game.
>golden age before the PS1
Keep dreaming Gen X'er. You pulled off music way better than the current shit, so don't feel too bad.
...excuse me
I don't care because I'm not an autistic retard with a boomer complex.
>pushing 30 and I'm more nostalgic for 2006-2012 than my childhood/90s
>tfw was a poorfag back then so I have 0 nostalgia for this shit
Feels good not growing feelings for a consumable product
Calling art "consumable products" does a great disservice to the integrity of the medium itself. We are approaching a world where the limits of reality are becoming obsolete (as much as the anti-progressives would hate it), and it's important to recognize the beauty of the created worlds.
I've played through super Metroid. Good game. But nothing special.
Super Mario? Great. 1 was the best. 2 and 3 were nothing special.
How about those obscure games like seiken densetsu 3 , or nier (Japanese version), or Castlevania legends? Again
Good but not golden age worthy.
Trust me. You games that you love from you childhood aren't that special.
You're just old and miserable and want young people to feel the same way. You're just not with "it" anymore. You're outdated. Pic related. A much better game than ocarina of too much text.
my HS started at 7 sharp
didn't matter to me, i was awake long before then
I got no problem with it, literally the same shit everyone does. However, what the fuck is BO2?
Yeah, see, you're just saying Super Mario Bros. was the best because everyone else already holds it in high regard due to saving the industry. 3 absolutely was special, and 2 was also very good. And none of those games are "obscure". If you wanted to show off your knowledge of obscure video games, you should have mentioned Kid Dracula, or Sweet Home.
It's justification all the way down. There's no point to it. IF you like something and someone else doesn't, then honestly who the fuck cares?
I try to focus on how I can add to the situation rather than debate on what is and isn't good. Look for the diamonds in the rough instead of giving shitty games the time of day.
>do americans
why does every other country care about the US so much?
>Old boomer college guy in class talks about how "back in his day videogames were much better"
>Open up emulator
>Play game
Meh, they weren't. Graphics were worse, Had stupid hardware limitations like turn based jrpgs, and barely any games with good storytelling.
When I was in grade school in western NY from 2000-2012 we started at 7:35 and ended at 2:05.
1995 - 2005 were my "formative" game years and you'd be surprised just how awful the shovelware was and how few admit to it
A lot of Steams lowest wrung shovelware is like free to 2 dollars, while theyd ask for 40 bucks in the late 90s for shit based off Hasbro or Nickelodeon, which probably translates to like 90 fucking dollars now
if you want an old game that aged amazingly, Paper Mario 64 was the triumph of the N64 IMO
Well of course if you're playing on an emulator you won't get the full effect. Play them the way they were meant to be played.
Games didn't have good storytelling in the 80s because they were still considered to be toys then. Storytelling in games became bigger in the 90s and 2000s, but that doesn't mean the more toy-like games of the 70s and 80s aren't great in their own right. Also "muh graphics"? Are you serious? You sound exactly like a kid who refuses to watch anything before 2006 because "muh cheesy special effects!"
Graphics are important to a degree, but as long as you can tell what's happening, they're secondary to the experience itself.
the worst thing about zoomers is the fucking eceleb obsession where they would rather watch people play video games than play videogames.
you must be retarded
>Play them the way they were meant to be played
I'm a CRT autist but come the fuck on guy. A game is good no matter how you fucking play it. A bad movie is still a bad movie even in the nicest theaters.
There was a South Park about that, where Ike and his friends are obsessed with Pewdiepie, and Kyle and Stan get mad because they're not actually playing vidya.
If you grew up in the age of shit, you won't know what good stuff is. Criticize the state of our society first, and its apologists later.
2005-2013 was so dreadful that triple A never recovered
Fair enough. We do use both systems, we'll make it there eventually.
Jesus christ. Imagine being this much of a fucking spaz lol. Thinking 7 am is fucking early in the morning.
Mine was 8:12 to 2:54 exactly
If you don't realize the Xbox 360 was the last golden age in gaming, you either had 0 friends, literally never played on it, or don't actually like video games.
they weren't wrong, but if you never played UT, quake 3 and CS 1.6 on PC in the early 2000s how WOULD you know better? you bought a console at some point after 2009 and then you bought whatever was popular moving forward. that's the context to make sense of it. I bought my 360 in 2006 and imo BF:BC1, Halo 3 and Mirror's Edge were the best games of that console generation, but for someone who missed all three of those games and got in later I can see how BO2 could be on the list.
to get past the "everything just gets worse and worse notion" just remember that people still celebrate games like GoldenEye and Timesplitters. compared to what was happening on PC those games were always garbage but if consoles are all you play you'd treat them as GOTYs. or a gotcha moment for myself: I'm nostalgic for Oblivion to this day. it was an early PC game for me. once I had installed mods to fix the UI and level scaling somewhat it felt like a massive, immersive game to me at the time. can't help it. but anyone who got the most of Morrowind would tell you that that was way better and Oblivion was crap with a LOTR derived, generic art style and simplified everything compared to Morrowind. I know what it feels like because Skyrim is the same thing in my mind. I gave Skyrim an honest chance and it disappointed me in more ways I could even predict. It's absolutel horseshit imo. I will never continue my 20 hour playthrough. I fixed some of the worse shit like random vampire attacks on towns out of the game and I still barely enjoyed it. Horrible. But for someone who never played Oblivion I guess it would be pretty cool for a while. Couple that with the hyper-emotional state of a teenager and you get a memory for the ages.
>"Old good, new bad"
Yet I had more fun the week Smash Ultimate came out than any other video game experience in my life.
It was a false "fun". Kind of like Diet Coke compared to regular Coke.
Oh I see. Thank you for educating me about my experiences user, I see now that I was not actually enjoying myself.
I don't see how a can of sugar is more enjoyable and fun
Yeah well it would be a bit fucky if you woke up at 7 unless you lived in the school or something
>mentally retarded Justin Bieber craving penis
All right, I'll give credit for the wordsmithing.
It's impossible to experience older games now the way we experienced them when they were new. It's a different world and we've had so many other games that expand and improve on the same formulas, and it's hard not to get sidetracked by mechanics, graphics, etc. that feel really dated to us now. This is especially true of multiplayer games, even the ones that still have a playerbase feel totally different because you're playing with autists who've perfected a meta over years and years rather than a spectrum of skill levels and playstyles that made the games a lot more interesting.
It's the price we pay for being the most important country in the world
IIRC classes here started at 6:45 and ended around 2. There was a massive push to have high school students start later because it was proven by studies that our brains would operate better starting later in the morning, but actual boomers had the mentality of I DID IT SO YOU WILL TOO. Might be different now but I doubt it
Why are you so bitter? Nostalgia isn't exclusive to you.
Nigga you better be fucking kidding me if you believe a run of the mill shootan can qualify as art
No it's not? If you can't empathize with a point of view, either if you have had it or haven't, you are making an error either way. There is validity to the point that if you feel something is better than something else, that you want other people to understand why you feel it is better and so you feel sad that they can't. Some people are flat out elitists, sure, they are stupid. But a lot of the emotions have to do with literally wanting other people to experience what they did. You are literally no different for thinking you have a superior point of view because "who the fuck cares".
2005 and 2013 feel like to different ages for me.
I dont really have nostalgia for 2013 except that i was still in college and I could interact with people of my age.
2005 is another story, I was young and naive and my grandpa was still alive, those were good times.
>6:45
Holy fuck, that's brutal, not just on the kids but on parents who have to drive them to school too.
time is fleeting
Sure, it can be their perception of a golden age. If you break it down on a timeline though, you'd probably consider the golden age of gaming to be about 1992-2004. In that time frame you had the last few games on the NES come out and really show what you could do with that hardware. You had the SNES and Genesis both take off and expand upon ideas built during the 8-bit generation. You then had the monumental shift to 3D with the Nintendo 64, which changed the entire gaming landscape. After that shift, PS1, N64, and Saturn had a wild era of companies trying to figure out how 3D worked. You had a ton of games that were innovative and fresh, if not a little on the weird and wonky side. You round that off with the Ps2, Gamecube, and Xbox which all had a ton of amazing exclusives that made owning each console worthwhile. After that, each console lost more and more of its individuality as gaming became more popular and they tried to appeal to a mass market. Honestly, their golden age sucks balls.
I was going to day it's retarded to have nostalgia for something 6~ years old, but then I realized I have nostalgia for SMTIV
Ahem!
To be a boomer you must have been part of these console generations:
Atari/NES - Around the time of your birth and early childhood.
Arcade/SNES/Genesis - At least be in elementary school.
Saturn/PS1/N64 - Middle school or early high school.
Dreamcast/PS2/GCN/Xbox - Finishing high school or entering college/work.
360/PS3/Wii - In college or working.
PS4/XBONE/Wii U - Getting married/buying your own house.
Switch - First child or getting divorced.
I am 72yo and i still play video games. My fondest memories come from playing read this if you like bbc.
oh jesus christ, I'm not even this guy and I didn't understand. who here /dyslexic/
Fucking scary shit.
>ME ZOOMBER ME DOOMER ME BLOOMER ME POOER
it's just dumb meme shit
Shut it, zoomer tranny scum!
While I occasionally see people being nostalgic for specific games and things from back then I have yet to see people be nostalgic for the 2000s/2010s like people are for the 90s. It's always "oh man I miss playing minecraft in school" and not "oh man I wish I could go back in time and relive 2000s era games/TV/music/movies/etc.
People born after 95
Reminder to not trust revisionists. Most of old Yea Forums didn't give a fuck about Halo or CoD and brushed it off as just another kid filled FPS.
Nobody on Yea Forums hated it, but similarly with Yea Forums and naruto, nobody talked about it because nobody had anything to say about it.
But now, Yea Forums thrives on bait and dumb shit, so of course we talk about it because it gives people something to rage about for no reason.
honestly, if I could go back to 2010 or so and spend an afternoon in Battlefield Bad Company on Xbox 360 I would pay up to a hundred bucks for that, no joke. and I'm a 90s kid and was always mainly a PC gamer. everyone is nostalgic about their teenage years.
>zoomers are old enough to have nostalgia
