Fortunately, exclusives are dying. Compare this gen with the PS2 era.

remember HDDVD vs blu ray

>company helps fund game from studio they own, for a console they own
mario being a nintendo property is not the same as epic buying a previously non epic exclusive game to make it epic exclusive, when it's a sequel to a series that isn't on epic store

Yes, first-party and third-party exclusives are different.
We're talking about third-party though.

Exclusives are literally the only reason consoles have to exist, without them consoles are worthless.

Exclusives also allow for high budget titles in genres that might otherwise not get games or would only get low budget/indie games. You can appeal to a specific audience that's more prevalent on that platform, and craft focused experiences. Notice how the vast majority of AAA third-party multiplats are jack of all trades that try to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

I've agreed with this sentiment for years and years. I've pretty much exclusively play games on PC and just emulate or wait for other games to be ported. Not that most exclusive games are worth it anyways, I can count how many I care about on a single hand.

the pic in itself doesn't even bring that up
also, any other industry has the competion concept of "we have something the other guy doesn't check it out" along with rip off products copying each other

sounds like poormie cope AKA poorhurt

No shit

>"exclusives bad"
>"but also exclusives not worth it"
>Mixing up "objective fact" with personal preferences
The "have your cake, eat it too" of arguements.

Exclusives are fine as long as they're funded by the publisher like bloodborne or bayo 2. Exclusives are a bad thing when they're not funded by the publisher and the publisher pays off another company specifically to not release their game on other platforms like with the SMT/Persona games.

What kinda backwards ass logic is that
Consoles are essentially budget computers that are all exactly the same so it's easier to optimize a game for them
Exclusives have nothing to do with consoles existing

I have no idea what you're trying to say. I can realize that exclusives are anti consumer and still not enjoy said exclusives. I understand that many people still do enjoy them even if I don't.

"No other industry works like this", see any streaming service like netflix, hulu, or crunchyroll. Channels on regular television work like this. As far as I can tell, most of the entertainment industry works like this.

>Games that literally wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo
>Nintendo games wouldn't exist from the money gained from hardware sales
>said money is used for R&D that's done by in-house devs that were given jobs by the company
>wooooooow, why are they exclusive?
If PC wanted games, why don't they get Valve, EGS, GOG or whatever the fuck DRM store to make games? My PC is literally a third party and FPS machine because I don't care about mobas, knights and horses 2 or field of tanks 3

Attached: 1489811897995.png (1016x805, 705K)

I half agree with that statement but he doesn't consider porting at all
It's not like you can just click convert and get the game magically play on other platforms

If you're talking about first-party exclusives, then you're retarded because of what posted. If you're talking about third-party exclusives, then your pic doesn't make sense since none of those launchers actually cost money. There's nothing stopping you from getting access to those games other than you having brand loyalty to your favorite DRM distributor.

Attached: 1554146025873.png (976x658, 272K)

I love how people think you can just magically snap your fingers and make all games work for all platforms.

It takes serious work.

Why is atlus such a Sony dick worshiper?

Exclusives will continue to exist as long as normalfaggots exist and continue to fall for marketing.
Their target audience are the soccer moms of gaming, the ones who need "streamlined experiences", less control so they can fuck less things up.
The kind of people who would download free_fortnite_hack_no_virus.exe or replace their laptop every other year because "it slows down bro"
Thats also why every game that goes from PC to multiplat gets dumbed down and casualized.

Notice how every major game on X/4 is a third person action-adventure, if it involves guns its a linear cover shooter etc etc, its incredibly stale but that doesnt affect the average console owner who buys 2 games a year, plays them through once or twice in

Attached: the truth.gif (258x258, 1.42M)

this is just cope from pcfags because they don't get state-of-the-art exclusives that take full advantage of their platform anymore. you can thank pirates, cheapskates who refuse to buy games until they're on sale for $2 a decade from now, e-sports zoomers, and valve's laziness for that.

>back then most games were made for 1 platform (ported by other developers later after release if ported at all)
>working on 1 platform gave then more time and resources to make a polish game and refine content
>with a smaller budget it gave them a lot of creative freedom to make wacky weird games
>7th gen more and more developers going multiplatform
>working on multiple platforms meant requiring a lot more money and developers
>a lot more money meant less creative risk and developers pushing DLC and microtransactions to recoup the costs
>making a game for a larger audience went you had to dumb down and streamline mechanics for a majority of people to understand

Gimme a reason why multiplatform is good except DURR MORE PEOPLE GET TO PLAY IT

Reminder multiplatform development is the reason more developers focus on multiplayer/open world fetch quests/microtransactions/loot boxes/ DLC

Attached: 1560252757933.jpg (518x388, 12K)

Tell that to my VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray player, faggot.

>exclusives bad

t. someone who owns a console that doesn't have exclusives

yeah, I bet would be extremely easy to port a game made with the nintendo SDK

a bad game wouldnt be worth it and a game that isnt worth it means its not good enough to warrant the effort, those statements do not contradict each other at all

You do not need to port if you develop on a certain platform from the get go, for instance if only 1 platform existed.

>state-of-the-art exclusives
cmon now

Attached: 1523989299.jpg (496x598, 72K)

>Sony dick worshiper
>literally took smt away from sony and made it exclusive to nintendo's bing bing toys

>only 1 platform existed.

this is like saying why are there more than one car manufactures

I don't know why you think comparing the film to gaming industry is worthwhile, but there literally are platform exclusive titles there as well. Whether you're after things like old blockbuster exclusives, or format-only HD-DVD exclusives... it's been over the place.

So no, he's wrong. Also EGS > Steam, at least the owner is still in the trenches unlike gabe rip-off-devs newell

Daily reminder that cucksouls literally bend over and pay up every month for the privilege to use their own internet and then get served ads on their homescreen on top

Attached: file.png (800x800, 1.09M)

>no other indusrty works like this
HBO, Netflix, broadcast TV, sports broadcast rights etc.

so true, so true.
*pays blizzard a subscription fee to play the same world of warcraft from 2004*
*downgrades pc to windows 10*
*buys this year's $1000 nvidia graphics card because they just nerfed last year's card with a driver update*
good thing us pc chads have standards, amirite?

You have 1 attempt to asspull an analogy here before I dismiss you as underage and/or brainlet

>cant even strawman without making shit up
the absolute cope of cucksouls

No fucking shit. You guys act like this is a new thing though; it's as old as video games themselves. It's a viable way to drive business to your platform so of fucking course they're going to do and and continue to do it until this whole industry keels over dead. No amount of bitching will ever change this.

>he doesnt avoid the subscription and either plays private servers or dont play it as a whole
>he doesnt stay on his windows 7 or just gets a hacked client
i really think the 3rd one is bs, but i dont have any knowledge about it, since i never encountered such a thing
stop strawmaning

meanwhile pcücks pay to rent games from a service that literally steals and sells their information lol. at least consolefags actually own their games

This.

This is so fucking true.
Gaming industry is the only place that does it.

If I wanna watch Netflix's Daredevil series I can load up Amazon Prime or Hulu.
Or if I wanna listen to Jay-Z, who moved all his stuff to Tidal, I can just load up Spotify...

Fucking retard.

>another steamcuck meltdown thread
No Borderlands for you. Cope

>at least consolefags actually own their games
No they don't.

>at least consolefags actually own their games
>cucksoul doesnt know
You dont even own your console lmao

But why isn't Superman in Avengers: Endgame, Mr. user?

he already succeeded and you got mad that he was right and made this shitty post

>Why cant I read DC comics on my Amazon Marvel™ kindle but have to buy an extra DC branded one?

Wait what?
So if I put Super Mario 64 into my N64 right now there's a chance Nintendo will stop me playing?

t.retards
Of course you own your console/games. Why wouldn't you?

Hey, I had an idea. Would it work?
>make a game
>make three more versions of the game a la pokemon.
>sell one version off as an EGS exclusive for the big bucks
>sell one as a GOG exclusive
>another only on Steam
>the last version on Origin
>once EGS exclusivity period ends, up the forner exclusives to the other services.

>he
cmon now underage brainlet
ill be generous and give you 1 more chance

>whats proprietary technology

Attached: 1530343635236.jpg (758x974, 122K)

You tell me;
What proprietary technology do they use that warrants exclusivity? Theres that cloud computing bullshit that Microsoft tried pushing with crackdown 3.

You own only a license even if you hold the CD in your hands right now. And not only can they revoke your access to the game, they can remotely brick your console if they dont like what youre doing

techraptor.net/content/microsoft-disables-consoles-of-gears-remake-leakers

What is never hooking the console to the internet, user?

lol thats what i thought
thanks for your concession no backsies no reversies

That shit only works in Amerilard land, here in the Caliphate of Europistan you own your games/movies once you buy them and unless you are redistributing copies with intent to acquire a profit nobody can do shit to you

That's why no ISP gives a shit that you pirate whatever you want

Attached: 1563708435871.jpg (686x714, 55K)

>No other industry works like this
We are literally about to have a fucking massive collection of different streaming services from movie studios because they want all of the profit of subscriptions

Attached: 9748689753890743827089.jpg (850x814, 77K)

>You own only a license even if you hold the CD in your hands right now
nice sematics
unless the game is online only, they can't do anything to your physical copy

and neither can they do anything to your console if you're not connected to the internet

keep coping

You're a dumbass. People talk about game ownership in the sense that you can play it forever regardless of PSN/Xbox Live existing or not. And stop lying. You can be banned from online but they won't brick a console unless you jailbreak it maybe

How the fuck is anyone gonna remotely brick my PS1?

impressive, yet still pathetic cope underage brainlet

I'll probably look into a seedbox so I don't have to deal with this shit.

I fucking hate this shit so damn much.

>just never use most of the features of this already feature starved paperweight

you already lost 2 times now, why reply when its so embarrassing?!

lrn2read

If the only way to use a strictly entertainment product is to have it connected to the internet 24/7, then it is an entertainment product that I don't want. I don't play online. If I play with friends, then they're in the same room with me. Online-Only is a scam, and you'd be a better person once you realize this.

No, he's not.
Most exclusives wouldn't exist if the platform-owner saw no benefit from funding it

And consoles are DRM boxes.

>No other industry works like this
except most do.
I can't go to United and ask to fly in a Emirates Air plane.

>playing online ever at all equals 24/7 online-only

Attached: 1520036843.png (356x278, 148K)

didn't know that online play was ''most of the featues'' of my PS2

keep taking it up the ass from gaben, pcshart

Remember how most everything came out on both and how one quickly died off?

that analogy doesnt make any sense at all, explain

Why are you defending current technology if you checked out of gaming 20 years ago?

In the age of PS2 exclusives just came to be by virtue of costs of developing for more systems and the strengths of the console alone, that doesnt matter at all anymore

Actual question heard in a K-Mart when I was young, made by a fat black woman holding the hand of a bawling nigger kid, as spoken to an obviously-irritated employee who was 1 minute away from walking off the job:

"Wha' you mean mah boy kint play Mayreeo on his Playstathing?"

Attached: Monki-7.jpg (1920x1280, 217K)

ah ye lol tale as old as time
blacks and consoles go hand in hand
thats why madden nfl is console only and they like fighting games but you never saw any of them playing starcraft or css

we're talking about not going online if you absolutely dont want any updates on your console, and how they wouldn't be able to do anything about it

you can go online. you still actually own your games, unlike on pc

Good taste on their part to skip CS desu. Worst shooter series of all time.

>Worst shooter series of all time
rly nigga

Attached: file.png (600x400, 579K)

I would unironically rather play CoD. CS sucked dick from fucking day 1.

PC masterrace blacks are generally bro tier

if you ever connect it to the internet they can take every single game away, you dont own a single one
if you never hook it up once, nobody can do that on PC either

Post 1 (one ({x∈N, x

You can't argue with the consumer apologist here user. Gaming has been absolutely taken over by the worst types of consumers on the planet. It's not enough that they get lied to, taken advantage of, have schemes to milk them for every penny that can be squeezed from them in unethical ways that rely on exploiting psychology and addictive tendencies. It's not enough that they are forced to shell out money for hardware that's been purposely held back in terms of performance, it's not enough that the companies have proven track records of collusion to maintain the market and enrich themselves outside of the spirit of competition. It's not enough that the people tasked with producing games are worked to death and face threats and abuse, it's not enough that they continue to support and celebrate known thieves, abusers and pedarist like Randy Pitchford. They have to apologize for the behavior and defend it at every turn . They have to promote it and celebrate it. You're dealing with multiple generations of people who are proud to be walking advertisements who love being taken advantage of. The only thing you can do is disassociate yourself from them and realize the only thing you can ever do is feel disgust.

Attached: 1488447031606.gif (225x534, 27K)

might be, I never met one

While it's true that they're standardized systems, if you want Smash, you get a Switch. Smash sells the Switch. The Switch would not sell if it did not have Smash. Because lots of people have a Switch, Nintendo has a huge population of people to market exclusive games to from which they derive full profit. This is why Nintendo will always be successful; you will never legally play a Pokemon game on another system that isn't a smart phone. This is also why Sony and Microsoft are struggling, and why PC gaming upswung in popularity, because the PC has exclusives and PS4 and Xbone do not.

Attached: 5dPZ2yZ.jpg (500x500, 49K)

he is totally right. Not going to argue OP.

He's dumb. You can't force McDonalds to let Burger King sell a Big Mac.

>I would unironically rather play CoD. CS sucked dick from fucking day 1.

Attached: bants.png (350x350, 279K)

Imagine being so stupid in your argument that you don't realize that movie studios have deals with retailers like WalMart, Target, and BestBuy that have exclusives on movies.

I'm 30. Last time my friends convinced me to play CS it was full of squeakers and russians. Game is shit.

I know it is, I dropped it years ago
I couldnt resist the bants

Oh I guess it makes it okay then

>This is also why Sony and Microsoft are struggling

Attached: EA0BCFBB-E3E2-4597-8F70-261B14B0E9AB.jpg (1080x581, 90K)

And they sell PS4s at a loss.

that doesnt make any sense, retailers are just the same with games
the comparison would be that since Time Warner gave xy director the funds to produce a certain movie, it only makes sense that you can view it only on time warners blu ray players

The PC could have 0 exclusives and I still wouldn't get a console lol

yo ho ho

Attached: 1555132008961.jpg (525x500, 60K)

>no other industry works like this
Exclusivity contracts are on every field from artistic to science, its the basic principle in promotion and advertisement

I miss gaming in 2005
snake eater in the afternoon, playing some korean mmorpg with teenage friends into the night
command and conquer was still alive, age of mythology was the shit

boosterpacks in BF2 were the beginning of the end for proper add-ons/expansion packs and the rise of DLC

my only complaint was limited space on my ps2 memory card
where did it all go so wrong
