Unironically, who is the best written female proragonist in games?

I don't know because i avoid any game with a female protag
Except for alien isolation, so i guess i'll say Amanda Ripley

Amanda Ripley is the best written female game protagonist, like Ellen Ripley was the best written female movie protagonist, at least for the first two Alien movies.

Pity she could never be written as anything but a Godmode Mary Sue now.

According to Yea Forums it's Samus Aran

How is she badass now? She is torture porn fodder now.

Lara is honestly the best thing about the reboots.
But the actual plots of the games are trash. Pure schlock. The fact that they've gotten awards show how far storytelling in games still has to go.

She was badass from the start

> Dedede that high
What the fuck

She’s way weaker now.

Heather
Jill
Bayonetta

these are my fav female characters in vidya

2B, but only because she filters out the prudes who go "muh butt! XD!" and can't see past the fanservice.

"Best written" is nebulous but here's some female protagonists I like:
>Jade (Beyond Good & Evil)
>April Ryan (The Longest Journey)
>Samus Aran (Metroid)
>Red (Transistor)
>Bayonetta (Bayonetta)
>Sara (Your Turn to Die)
>Rosa Blackwell (Blackwell series)
>Jill (Resident Evil)
>Claire (Resident Evil 2)

She's a mere fucktoy.

Shion from Xenosaga.
The writers even wrote her to be appealing to women and there was a backlash from male players because she acts like an actual woman and not an idealized otakubait anime girl.

Not the best written. Still the best.

Elaborate?

case in point

I also wanna know more

Shepard duh

That's a good question, not many come to mind. BloodRayne is pretty fun but her characterization is minimal.

Never played xenosaga, tell me more about it

Old Lara:
>confident badass
>brilliant archaeologist
>olympic level athlete capable of incredible gymnastic feats
>deadeye marksmanship
>fights dinosaurs, demons, undead, etc.
>is a rich socialite with supermodel looks
>don't need no man

She has it all. She's like the female equivalent of James Bond or Bruce Wayne. And yet for some reason the nu-gaming press can't get over the fact that she had tits and wore short shorts. Infinitely preferable to them is the scared and meek Lara who is constantly getting beat up and kicked in the ovaries, because they made her boobs a few cm smaller and gave her pants.

Kusanagi is the best piece of work in terms of backstory and overall plot in both the games, OVAs and the series.

In terms of personality in general Regina from Dino Crisis and Edwen from Bound by Flame (even if the game is shitty and Edwen is not a protagonist I liked some characters) who's a more "anime" version of Morrigan from Dragon Age.

In terms of character build up Heather from SH3 and Jade from BG&E.

In terms of "coolness" Samus Aran from Metroid. Maybe also Ripley from the Sega Megadrive's Alien 3.
