The patch had major changes and came RIGHT before the event. People didnt have time to practice with a new character and new mechanics.

EVO usually plays on whatever patch was the newest a month before the event. This is for all games, not just Smash. It happened back in EVO 2015 too, when Roy, Lucas, and Ryu weren't allowed to compete in Smash 4 because the patch was too new.

It's probably because Hero isn't actually as OP as you think he is. He's a pretty slow character, and having his best spells locked behind an RNG menu makes him unreliable. You can't set up a Whack or Hatchet Man consistently because having those moves locked behind RNG makes them unreliable.

Give it time. It took MKLeo a whole month to optimize Joker. If somebody does the same with Hero (and if Hero is at least high tier), he should get pretty far in a tourney.

It's blowing my mind how people actually think Hero is OP. I'd argue he's solid, definitely in the upper echelon, but he's too inconsistent to be OP. I'd call Joker OP before Hero.
