That's it. Its interesting because BOTW and RDR2 both did the same thing, just from opposite sides. Both peaked the open world genre with their own approaches. BOTW by focusing solely on the exploration and DIY/digital playground aspect and RDR2 by focusing solely on world building and deliberate experience.

I could give some bonus points to Nier Automata for including the game elements themselves into the story and setting, but ultimately, those two are bigger contenders.

I think I would’ve had so much more fun with BOTW if there was multiplayer in it. 48 people in one world and everyone can enter PvP or do shrines together, or simply just traverse the world together. I felt like doing this alone was boring. I only stuck around for the story and didn’t feel like staying for the rest.

How does it feel to be slow?

I'm playing Breath of the Wild right now, I bought it right in day one, but bored me very soon (probably because I'm very impatient recently). Now I restarted to playing, resisting, and it grow up on me. I feel that is a great game, and probably the best open world out there. Even if you have only shrines and korok seeds, they are very nice to find, and is also interesting exploring to find them. It's not like going to a spot in a map, and the fact that you can explore everywhere but with the only limitations of stamina is a big plus.
