Why were old FF games so boring with their spell names?
is that good enough for you Jannies?
Element 1
>he likes the cringey DQ spell names
pull the kafrizzle out of your ass fag
Better than shit like Masukukaja or Makarakarn or Tetraja, I never know what the fuck is going on
I unironically like ra and aga ending spells instead of 1, 2, 3
I don't mind either way, Bolt-2 sounds nice, but so does Thundara. Just whatever you do, don't forget the Water spells, it's the best element.
I'm a fan of SMT spell names because its like an actual other worldly magic language that you pick up on the little naming conventions.
Like for example, Masukukaja. Ma means multiple targets, Suku means agility, and kaja means to raise the stat.
>using base elemental spells in FF7
But then Makarakarn doesn’t aid multiple targets.
I like unique names for the ultimate spells and unique names in general. Recently 3 houses had really cool spells and animations, I liked the names in those
They did it in the old games because of technical limitations, they were only in 7 because of a whack translation.
XIV for some reason goes back to numbers.
Japan was actually using the ra/ga names since the beginning. Back in FF1 however, spell names only had 4 letters for space so they had to compromise it in some way that they'd still be readable and you'd know what it's supposed to be an upgrade of, but this tradition kind of kept sticking even after such space issues were no longer an issue. At least until VIII I believe.
Maka refers to magic (ex. Makakaja raises magic). Rakarn means reflect.
if I remember, this was only an english convention because of text space limitations. Fire 2 was always Fira in japan for example.
Then FFXIV decided to go back to numerical spells in english, there was a book found in the game that talks about Curaja, which in Japan they just settled on that name after arguing the suffix, while in NA they re-wrote it to say "Well we thought suffixes were stupid so it's Cure 4 now"
"makara-" used to mean "affects magical attack", IIRC. Tetrakaja and Makarakaja were a thing.
Also, kinda missing the point, but at least in P3 the -karn spells are partywide.
So mutiple magic raise is Mamakakaja?
Speaking of, why is it suddenly Fire, Fire 2, Fire 3 and so on again in FFXIV?
-kaja and -nda spells are partywide.
Zan -> Zanma
Mazan -> Mazanma always amused me though.
Persona is pretty much the only games where stat boosting spells don't automatically affect the whole party, and they also don't use the Maka suffix or magic boosting spells separate from regular attack raising spells.
>frizz
>frizzle
>fo' shizzle my frizzle
I find numbered a lot bettter and spell, spella, spellaga, spellagara, spellgaraja.
But it doesnt make any proper diference in the game,so whatever.
Because Nip thought western audiences were illiterate. Those were ra/aga in the japanese version
cute
