To be fair, those things are unweildly little shits.
you wouldn't say that to my face, kid
Based and flailpilled
It's literally a fantasy weapon.
They are underwhelming in real life too
Ok make a video of yourself swinging that at something as hard as you can.
Just make sure you have someone else there to upload it after you hit yourself with those spikes
>lindyvirgin btfo by Chad Easton

>flail
I always thought they were called bombyknockers.
Its a farm implement that was modified by peasants for use in combat. They sucked but when its what you got its what you got.
Physics breaker, the weapon.
they're called whillywhackers, you dofus
>Youtube LARPers
That's pathetic.
>archaeologist history-buff HEMA practitioner vs a dance instructor
Get btfo dude
Do you have one of the bongs police findings being a wheel, some kitchen knives and a sharp stick?
yes but i can't find those pictures so you'll just have to watch this instead
Halbards.
Its 99% of the time swords, the other 1% is spears
>ITT: Underrepresented weapons in reality
>outdated school shooter weaponry with janky aftermarket modifications
>underrepresented
They aren't, but they should be.
I mean I guess it's better than blasting the dudes brains all over the sidewalk. I say this as an american
The actual historic militarized peasant flail does not resemble the classic 'ball and chain' at all though.
In fact is there a vidya anywhere with a real flail in it as shown?
Who is this semen demon?
The weapon is slow, clumsy and inaccurate. Not an effective weapon.
>ball and chain flail with multiple heads
How the fuck is it supposed to work? It's like having a gun and trying to fill the entire length of the barrel with bullets.
good point. also when are we gonna get a good Police game? I think the last game where you could play as a "cop" was... I don't even know when
>How the fuck is it supposed to work?
u need to have practice
>Kiwifag detected.
cute girl with good meme weapon skill
Get some momentum, swing hard and don't miss
Swat
True Crime
Max Payne
jim is a faggot
The chakram.
Every iteration of it in a video game so far has been retarded
>dota 2 timbersaw
Nigga that's a sawblade
>mii swordfighter in smash
How the fuck is this a multihit? Still fun as fuck but retarded as balls nonetheless.
When are we getting a decent chakram in a video game?
I literally can't think of a single game where you use a flail. Oh, I guess the crusader in Diablo 3 uses them. Anything else?
>
>good point. also when are we gonna get a good Police game? I think the last game where you could play as a "cop" was... I don't even know when
La Noire
Daggerfall, For Honor
I got you senpai
That's not the same thing you dope. You're only swinging one head at a time. What I'm describing would be like a ball and chain flail with three heads.
But if you swing hard, the momentum will just draw all three balls into the same position midswing and they'll clatter off each other and bounce around. You'll strike with less force, essentially.
Arcanum has chakrams but I don't know how good they are.
good lad
Diablo 2 has flails.
Baldur's gate has flails.
Homm has flail artifacts.
Terraria has flails.
>flails
more like overrepresented in games considering they were barely used, the only time they were regularly used in military was in 15th century by hussites in bohemia and we are talking about 2 handed ones with head on long stick
I know one handed ones with long chain were used as horseman weapons in eastern europe in middle ages, but nowhere near as often as swords or even axes.
Astral Chain
Good lad
>miss
>risk injuring yourself and/or leaving yourself wide open for a counter attack
Why bother when you could just bolt the striking head onto the end of a big stick?
I enjoy those RP'd comments.
Warhammer Vermintide 2 has them
Shadow of Rome has the best one.
Flails hit harder for the same reason you can throw a stone further with a sling.
I mean you're being pretty harsh on them here. The bike wheel could be a stolen bike wheel which makes it suspicious. It's a good thing to see the police work on something they don't usually do like bike theft.
exanima just got an update adding the flail
Where are my bardiche chads at?
vermintide 2
they're pretty good. maryland gun enthusiasts are understandably bitter as hell
psychological factor, knight would use lance for most of his work anyway and once the fight was decided, 3 headed flail would work just as well against fleeing enemies as 1 headed, but with smaller chance terrified enemies would think about fighting back, there is probably good chance less competent opponents wouldnt know how to fight madman with such weapon and would avoid him in battle
True its not like they can stop the usual of rape gangs and beheadings without souring race relations.
Weren't those books just medieval click bait for rich assholes with too much time on their hands rather than legitimate martial arts guides?
It's the police of some literally who city in Britain. I assume that if they have time to work on bike theft it's because they have nothing else to do.
3 headed flails literally did not exist. They're just some dumb videogame thing developers with no understanding of physics throw in.
you wouldn't say that to my face asswhole
They were both. Many of them were legitimate fighting manuals, but sometimes contained joke entries for having a laugh.
oh man i cant wait to swing in and either kill myself in one hit or accidentally hit a table being permanently tethered to it forcing me to either drop my flail or drag a table with me
There needs to be more spear representation in videogames
there better be goddamn spears in TES6 I swear on the nine
>t. Kiwikunt
That's because it's fucking stupid. Could you actually imagine using this thing and is there any reason to ever use this when you could just use an ordinary mace?
Battle Brothers has them. Actually good indie game with actually decent devs
Diablo 3 Crusader was the first thing i thought off as well.
Onimusha 3 has a flail like weapon but it has a large extendable chain that basically makes it a giant meteor hammer. One of the angel weapons in Bayonetta is a giant flail. I think you could use one in Chivalry as well.
Have that game on backlog. One more reason to play it i guess.
The same reason you'd use a trebuchet instead of a catapult. And who cares about realism anyway.
You use a trebuchet because catapults are fucking small and the physical principles behind their operation don't work past a certain size.
Flails were pretty much non entities, almost entirely unused. They didn't even work very well for the transference of force because you lose a lot of your ability to push your weight after a strike. The moment after impact a flail just loses all force and bonks off. It's a terribad weapon.
watch them degenerate the weapons into just melee skill
>we can never have these threads again without underages LARPing as historians because they saw another LARPer do it on Youtube.
they literally did exist, Ive seen some in museums in czechia and poland, you would really be surprised to see what kinds of obscure weapons actually did exist
weapon threads are only fun to watch for the shit fling and general autism tho.
Dildos. There's no more humiliating way to kill an opponent than beating him to death with a big rubber dong.
Nothing in this picture should be illegal
>dude why didn't they just murder him lmao
I'd expect that to fall apart after a single volley
>its a 'boomer thinks a certain type of weapon didn't exist because of a "historian" told him so, but believes falchions were widely represented weapons throughout Europe" episode
>When are we getting a decent chakram in a video game?
In 2000.
faggot
Indeed, he should have been free and allowed to stab and attack and mutilate any other random citizen he wanted.
Vermintide 2 has the best flail and rapier in vidya, prove me wrong.
Nobody else has even mentioned falchions in this thread. Can you read? Or are you a bot?
Black powder weapons in general are underused. Nobody wants to get dabbed on during a match because they are watching a 2 min reload animation
Terraria's got decent chakrams, though i dont think theres an endgame one.
Atom rpg has a quad barrel shotgun you can craft. It's fucking dope early-mid game but falls off. One shots literally anything a majority of the time early unless it jams. I fucking loved it.
t.falchion fag
It's always the same shit.
>Post fun vidya weapon
>"Uh actually all weapons besides spears are a myth so that would not work in a real..."
It's just the same episode on repeat over and over.
Yeah I think it would be cool if implemented well. It's probably not done precisely because of the reload times, but you could do it like pirates did, carry a shit ton of pistols on your waist and around your neck, and when you run out you either hide in the corner like a bitch reloading all your shit, or you nut up and charge with saber in hand.
Something like that would be kinda cool, I think
>people discuss something
>autists like you REEEEEE at people having discussion and not just slavishly doing whatever you want

>Game has fire arrows

>game has 'kite shields'
>they're heater shields.
Is it wrong that this shit bothers me? You don't see people whipping out pistols and calling them rifles.
Wheels
I just want to wield a spear and shield at the same time. Most games with spears only have the option to 2-hand them.
>no Sharpe vidya where you remove frogs with your superior 3 rounds per minute firing rate.
runskap
I feel like this faggot just goes with his gut and has done very little real research on anything
The intellect is the greatest weapon of all.
Mein neger
I love doing that shit in dark souls, most favorite build ever was with the greatlance in DS3, running fools through with the weapon art was the BEST shit
Why is this? Dumbest shit I can think of.
My most used weapon in Dark Souls was the that long as fuck silver knights spear followed by the bastard. You could kebbab faggots with that. Spears in general for the souls vidya get some top picks tthat isn't just pokes.
That's exactly how i feel, his channel is like 90% historical assumptions.
I don't know why joe rogan affiliates with these guys.
He never was much of a funny man
The remaining 10% is pure britishwank
Who the fuck are they?
This
A cacto-ninetails!
People who got 15 minutes of fame after being on the opposite side of the ideology war. Of course just saying that is stupid as fuck, nobody actually cares except the few people stupid enough to take it seriously.
His stand up is terrible and he repeats the same shit over and over on his podcasts, but he gets interesting guests on and knows how to carry a conversation at least.
Claws, especially ones that make the player feral. Shit's awesome.
guisarme gang here, but we're still bros
I just want more whip weapons in games because of the cool factor sand extra range.
Carlooos
Is that some fishing implement?
Is the Baltimore Police Department this based?
No, this is my cavalry hook. It hooks cavalry.
forgot my image
I always thought he was the fear factor guy that made people eat the shit from offal pits for money.
flaily as fuck
I thought they were billhooks and brush axes.
Guisarme and billhooks aren't exactly the same thing, they're in the same family though.
Ur mom "xD"
you swear the 8 you mean
They're basically the same thing.
What other game even is there that fits your example?
No
He was the fear factor guy, now he does a podcast that's pretty entertaining if you take it with a grain of salt.
Where the fuck are my halbros at?
Let it die introduced one. It is also part of top meta right now.
These bad boys.
How I wish there was a grappler class in dragons dogma
this and based
People still play that janky p2w garbage?
Billhooks are generally wider and end with a softer curve to them. Sometimes they have square-ish protrusion or edge on their backsides as well. Guisarme have more protruding edges, points, or hooks. Guisarme are also typically tipped with an end that more closely resembles a narrow spearhead, rather than a gradually curved blade.
Outward has chakrams but they're mainly used as a spell casting catalyst.
Vermintide 2. My main loadout is Saltzpyre with the crossbow for special and elite killing and the flail for shield guys and little dudes. Has lots of fun weapons like halbard, glaive, musket, blunderbuss, flintlock pistols, warhammers... It's like they were reading the player's handbook and jerking off to it.
How are you gonna grapple someone with a clenched fist dumbass?
My favorite is the rapier, many games have rapiers but only fatshark did it right.
Hardwest, the grimdark cowboy XCOM clone had one, it's the recruitable character Child Eater's gun, a charming fellow as I'm sure you can imagine.
Forgot pic.
confirmed guy
hug
I'm not great with it, but killing giant axe wielding barbarians with a rapier is indeed very satisfying, like beating up werewolves with the pimp cane from bloodborne.
Speaking of bloodborne, that and killing things with a saw was pretty fun. I've killed things with a chainsaw, but a regular saw was new. Good flintlocks while we're at it
Ahh, the throwing anus. Didn't D2 have them, mainly for the assassin?
Nerd.
Medevil total war 2 had billhooks for the English, that's close enough.
It still hurts. Both Lavitz, and spear users in general.
When will we have our day, spearbros?
We'll always have FF Dragoons, user. But I'm afraid we'll never have the popularity the swordbros have, they're just too well known as the protagonist weapon. One day I wanna play something where the protag uses a Naginata or something.
He thinks they got them from gun shops snd aren’t FBI handouts loooool
>Medevil
One day...
>CA will never go back to making competent, (largely) feature complete, total war games with mechanical depth that exceeds that of a puddle.
>Instead they're just going to shit out incomplete games and sell the rest of it piecemeal, keep release offshoot 'saga' games nobody asked for, and retroactively damage their better past games.
It fucking hurts.
OP here. I don't care if flails were used or not in real life history, I'm talking about their use in videogames. You autistic pieces of shit have no problem with spells, magic potions and your character coming back to life everytime you die but a fucking spiked ball chained to a stick triggers you to oblivion.
Cow tools
You activated /his/'s trap card with your OP.
But to answer your question: staves. Not as glorified walking sticks, not as incredibly shitty last resort weapons for sorcerous types. The only one I know of that's decent enough is Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
>Those manuals that show you when and how you should throw your pommel.
>Those manuals that show you how to properly taunt your opponent.
Shitposting the thing that raises humans above animals?

Late reply, I know, but I liked chakrams in Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning.
A quarterstaff. They are usually a statstick/blaster for some wizard. Lords of the Fallen/The Surge did them pretty good though.
the spetum
> sword length blade, single-edge hooks, long handle
never seen it used in a game but i imagine it to be incredibly useful since it seems to be very versatile. stab, slash, and disarm all from a safe range
Turok 2 had the Razor Wind
was some fun shit
Does his placenta counts as a flail?
>Smallsword
>Call it a rapier
>inb4 some retard says "they never existed!!!" just because some youtuber said so
Flails with shafts as short as the OP didn't exist, and if they did, they were quickly phased out for excessively brushing your knuckles.
Dynasty Warriors has a ton of weapons
They did exist we have numerous depictions of short flails in medieval art.
Seems to check other user's little boxes: they're chakrams and they're multihit
>his fists don't have pincers and tendrils
Look at this evolutionary retard
We also have depictions of swords cutting through mail and steel helmets, doesn't mean we should take all medieval artists seriously.
Move aside, peasants
that's not a pun
if you have to fucking change anything then it ISN'T A PUN
We should do if its consistent from 13th to 16th century from western Europe to eastern Europe they are depicted.
This coupled with the fact we have native american and Asian weapons that are of similar length that preform similar. The idea that the weapon is too fantastical has little evidence in reality when other contemporary peoples where using similar weapons.
>flails up to the 16th century
inb4 grain flail fighting manual
Hunt: Showdown's got this I think
>Most common weapon combination throughout all of human history.
>Least common weapon combination in videogames.
Why does this happen? Is it just because devs are always chasing the "omg so epic" dragon or is there some other reason?
That's why Saltzpyre is the most based character in the game, he uses all the best weapons and has the best lines.
>game has glaives
>they're just spear reskins
Is there such a thing as a shotgun shell that holds a slug AND buckshot? So it's got some spread, but also an accurate round?
I think it's partly just because it would be too good. The range of a spear plus the ability to block would make you invincible in the basic combat system of 90% of games. You need a more complicated fighting system to give spears and shields any meaningful disadvantages compared to anything else.
IRL the shot will change the slug's trajectory when they start separating.
Guess it was wrong of me to say that short shafted flails never existed, but they were extremely rare still. And I still doubt they saw much usage into the 16th century.
Hello I'd like to purchase... Wow a Pollaxe! Just what I was looking for! How could you tell?
That we can agree. But what i would like to know is where this flail never existed meme is coming from?
Its not being said on historical youtube channels nor anything academic. Is it some sort of pop culture channel like mattpat?
>it's another "virgins believe in a skinnyfat faggot having opinions about shit he never trained with"
If we did all those trials about weapons not working because you can't use it right the first time we would also believe punches are ineffective because you can break your wrist if you don't train it.
Knights did not have bus or cars, they walked everywhere, trained since they were kids and in general had 3 times the test we have, and lived to kill other people.
Lindybeige or anyone that isn't a strongman or a powerlifter is literally a woman compared to a xv century knight or soldier.
and yet flails were still almost never used by anyone ever because they are fucking dangerous to the user
>Knights did not have bus or cars, they walked everywhere
>they walked everywhere
>Knights
On my backlog. Will check out.
Good stuff. I bought it ages ago on a sale and haven't gotten around to playing it.
Total war chads, I just found out you can increase unit sizes in Medieval 2. What faction should I play to try it out?
Idk really, I have a small circle of friends in which we share historical resources and artwork with each other and just discuss things. Though, as far as flails go, it seems obvious to me that you WOULD want a longer shaft, but now I don't really know.
Prove it.
We have paintings, we have them in museums.
Just because a limpdick internet buffoon says he can't use one it doesn't mean it can't work, it only means the limpdick fag has never done a competitive sport.
In the future there will be youtubers saying dicks in vagina does not work because the dick is too flaccid, and men always took it in the ass.
Play For Honor.
youtube.com
Well you are right longer ones are preferred.A lot of the one handed ones are shown on horse back held by armored men perhaps this might explain the short length. And the lack of concern for hitting themselves.
>we have them in museums.
I dont think we have any western European examples in museums just depictions. There is a lot we dont know how were they used? why would you pick this over a mace? what are their advantages?
Didn't they give it for free like last year or something? I may give it a try, but I'm more interested in solo rpg's
How retarded do you have to be to understand he posted a joke image?
>We have paintings
because paintings are 100% accurate representations of historical battlefields just like hollywood is an accurate representation of real life
just because it appears in some paintings or fighting manuals doesn't mean it was widely used at all.
It was once free on uplay for a short time, then free on steam for a short time and recently free on epic store for a short time but at the moment it's not free
I have 7 accounts
Fallout 76 has black powder weapons that are fun to use and powerful, and you can equip several of them and swap between them to go full pirate like suggests.

what's that for, making barbecue on the way to the battle?
