ps3 is mostly trash. only things i'd like to play are armored core, ace combat and maybe some gundam games which amounts to like 6 games total. gen 6 truly was the last great one for consoles

gow2 gt4 and resident evil 2-3. However i just soft modded a fat ps2 with a hdd that i will be using from now on.

Emulation is more CPU intensive. Plays at 30fps with some drops and you can't have anything running on the background. I have a 2500k, 8gb RAM and. RX580, not a top of the line rig but plays everything.
I love Zero.

When I emulated drakengard 1, I got to a point where I couldn't get a secret weapon needed to unlock the true ending. If that happens to you, I suggest getting a ps2 complete save from gamefaqs and converting it to pcsx2 format. Not as hard as it sounds

theres lots of tools for converting saves. biggest pain is usually getting them in and out of the virtual memory card but i go back and forth with my real ps2 and pcsx2, just takes a few mins

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was a problem with the way I was emulating, but essentially I needed to kill a specific optional enemy on a certain level, but for some reason that soldier clips through the geometry no matter how many reloads I did. Only ever found one other person talking about it online, so just save yourself the trouble if it happens

This game was a fucking blast co-op.
This and Sholin Monks were both so fucking fun with friends... I wish 3d brawlers would come back.

use dev versions if you aren't. ppsspp is one of the better emulators and has a very good track record

Just started Persona 5. I tried the 60 fps patch but it was running too fast and skipping dialogue as well as some minor audio stutters so I uninstalled it and now it runs perfect albeit in 30 fps which is a shame.

I've played Persona 3 and 4 and quit half-way through because I got bored but hopefully this one will keep my interest until the end.

Of the PS2 Ace Combats 4 is the shittiest in emulator, full of graphics glitches. The other two run near flawlessly

While people are treating this as a dumb question, it is a legit one.
You can emulate your desktop via Bochs or Qemu from any other architecture or from x86 it self.
And regarding 3d emulation, there are software based libs out there that can do up to OpenGL 3.0 and Dx 10. Mesa can do OpenGL 4.0+ and Volkin. No real good software out there to do Dx11+12 except for the really REALLY slow reference renderer from MS.
With the availability of 64c/128t processors today and with things moving towards more and more cores from AMD, the ability to emulate modern APIs in software at speeds more then 1fps is actually becoming a reality.

Yes. They call them virtual machines. It is how you emulate old windows games. You create a virtual machine in a prog like pcem and install an OS like win 95/98/xp. Then you start installing your games. Technically dosbox is a pc emulator though it only emulates msdos though I think I've heard you can maybe get windows to run through it but that's not its purpose.

Why does no game feel completely smooth while emulating? There's always small hiccups that take me out of it. It's been that way for over a decade.

A virtual machine mostly forwards the instructions directly to your CPU with only emulating the ones that can not be (usually related to interrupts, ahci, etc)
Full blown emulation like PCEM, Qemu, Bochs, etc actually reinterpret every cpu and attached device instruction in software with zero acceleration.

Its likely your setup or configs.
SNES emulation for example has been completely smooth as butter (assuming the game is supported) since the mid 2000s.
