Play Tactics Ogre, it's a better game

here's my advice: delete the game and watch a playthrough on youtube

story is good but gameplay is trash, just like 90% of all games made after 1999

I'll play it next
I'm not a faggot

Final Fantasy Tactics is a great game and Yea Forums is full of faggots. It's the kind of game that is actually more fun the second time than the first.

Zeklaus Desert and get a 2xJP cheat for a smoother time

Really enjoyed FFT, FFTA and FFTA2 despite A having retard red card mechanics and A2 being heaping dogshit story wise.

The games all reward min-maxing, but just enjoy the games blind the first time and hit the wiki for an autistic run afterwards. There's plenty of basic stuff you'll probably look up as you play anyway.

You can steal some really cool (and unique) shit if you level a thief.

Whoever the fag is who steals monster abilities (blue mage?) was an absolute cock slapper. I cant remember which but one of the games lets you have access to bad breath and infinite lightning loops

Ok
First, there's the obvious things, like to have gain job points up as your support ability for almost every unit on your team. This will unlock new jobs quicker.

Starting characters with higher brave make better warriors, because they do more damage with physical attacks, and their counter abilities trigger more.

Faith causes *all* magic effects to do more damage/heal more/succeed more, both from and to the unit. It's a double edged sword.

Your default starting units might actually be able to get brave/faith values above 70, while those you hire will *always* have values below 71. When hiring a new soldier, go in and out of the menu until you get one with a high brave value, etc. It's possible to permanently raise brave or faith, with the mediator class, but it takes a long time to get it way up there.

If you have a team that is constantly healing or buffing each other, you want their zodiac signs to be compatible. There's a chart that shows which signs are compatible with each other: males/females are the only ones that can have max compatibility.

There are a few overpowered jobs in the game, but they are not always overpowered due to their active job ability, but their passive abilities. Ninjas have very good speed, move and jump values and they dual wield, but their throwing ability is meh and you should never master it, in that you have to unlock every single item that it's possible to throw (and you would not want to throw some of the rare/pricey things that they can throw).

Then there are jobs that just suck but have great active abilities that you want to master, then switch the unit to another job. Math mage is terrible -- mostly because of their speed -- they will have other units totally outpacing them and getting turns way before them. But their job ability is one of the most insanely OP things in the game. After you learn it, you can switch them to another class like Black mage which has high magic damage and ok speed and you'll wreck shit.

Calculators break the game so be sure to field as many of them as possible

i like you.

Don't overwrite your save when you do multiple stage quests, some can be impossible depending on your layout and you'll have to start over.

*Continued

Ramza has unique squire abilities which it's definitely worth it to unlock. I personally turn him into a ninja, which helps with a notorious fight later in the game.

There are unique items which you will never see again in some of the boss battles, so it's really nice to have a thief in your party (maybe Ramza himself) steal those items, like the blood sword.

Some people say that chemists are far better than white mages, I personally like to master the white magic skills on my mage units so that when I switch them to math magic later, they have those abilities. But there's no denying that it sucks to lose a unit permanently when your raise spell keeps failing, and Fenix downs always succeed.

About 80% through the story you'll get a character that is insanely overpowered. Use them if you need them.

I actually haven't played the PSP version at all past the tutorial battle, because they switched the confirm/cancel buttons, and I'm just too used to using x to cancel and circle to confirm. But I'm sure it's the better version and maybe I'll play it one day.

Tactics ogre is definitely a good game too, and I recommend it, but this is my definition of a final fantasy masterpiece. Enjoy, savor it and replay it. There are literally hundreds of gameplay hours in this one.

thanks guys
are zodiac signs important?
I'm a brainlet so I don't have the headspace to deal with that.

this is honestly the only thing you need to know before you play, other than that just have fun.

I finished the game and I didn't knew that shit. Just create a balanced team then ruin the game for yourself by running of army of ninjas obliterating the enemy within 1 turn

How's the iOS version of the game?
I tried playing the game on ppsspp with the slowdown fix, but even after fiddling with the settings, the graphics don't quite look as good as I'd like it, there are some weird graphical bugs no matter which filter I use, and if I don't use anything, the text gets so pixelated it's hard to read. And also the speed of the battles is terrible, it takes forever to get to your turn even with the slowdown fix.
Checking some videos of the mobile version, the sprites are looking a little better and the battles move more smoothly, but that my be my imagination.
not OP btw

Also, I'd prefer portable but I don't have a psp or vita sadly.

Wow, it's available for Android too

Seriously considering buying it again

I'm considering too but I'd love to hear from someone who tried it first, even though there isn't much chance that someone like that posts on Yea Forums.

Keep two save files, one specifically for multi-part fights where you save between them.

This keeps you from being forced to restart when you reach the 1v1 boss fight.

PS1 or PSP version?

PS1 plus frameskip mapped to R3

I got introduced to the game through the ios version, it's definitely worth it. Performance wise there's no problem, at least the version i played a couple years ago. If you just want it portable and is bothered by the changes in wotl, you can emulate it on switch if you have a hack-able one that is.

Make Ramza strong on his own or you're going to be butthurt later.

I see this memed all the time, but I don't understand. Why wouldn't you make your main character strong as fuck?
I mean did people really make him a priest or some other useless class and got fucked?
I have not yet played the game, but I always found this amusing.

prepare yourself for riveting gameplay and a gripping well done story, the game is a masterpiece, the pacing is immaculate

SHOUT!

I played the Ivalice raid in FF14, and the storyline pretty much spoiled the entire Tactics stroyline, but I'm still interested in playing this even though there are probably not many surprises remain for me.

Is ff14 set in the same universe?

No, it was made so Ivalice was an ancient legendary country in FF14 universe that had a very similar history, complete with the characters, locations and stuff. It was actually surprisingly well done, didn't feel forced or clashing like crossover stuff usually are as a result. They even brought Matsuno in to desing the raids, it was very nice.

It's mostly that he's pretty strong for a boss and if you don't have an older save you can't grind to fix your weak Ramza.

That sounds pretty cool

It's full of refs to ff games and re-uses themes out the ass like ff6s empire but it is it's own setting.

Ios version is pretty good. I beat the game last year on my iphone6

Random encounters are based on your highest level'd character so if your Ramza isn't in tune with the rest of your characters you can get fucked over hardcore.

That guy is super fast and super strong, if you for example made Ramza a really strong black mage, you'll still die in one or two turns. Lots of people just cheese the fight with Auto-potion and speed/str buffs, which are definitely not needed in any other previous fights.

grind squire till everyone has jpboost, move+1, and accumulate, then use equip basic skill whenever you need to grind out a few levels. also have frog/break skills on hand to make any battle last indefinitely.

orlandu/calculators are for fags
samurai skills are magic based
get jp boost early
make sure to read every rumor at the taverns

Hey Yea Forums
FFTA2 Summoner infinite combo

I've played through the PS1 version of this game countless times, and every time I see one of these threads, I always get the itch to play it again. Something about it just scratches that itch you get when you wanna play something strategic.
I think if you want every single extra character by the end of the game, you can only for 4 (maybe 3) generic units. So if you like any of the generics you use during the prologue (I think they're named Rad, Alicia, and some other female knight) keep them in mind. Either way, don't use too many generics.
Mustadio a best.
