Apparently, this has better gameplay than Nocturne. First I'll play If..., then Nocturne. I don't want to play the game with superior gameplay first and then regress afterwards.

Yeah, no, you fucking wish. SMT2 just has long and draining dungeons. If... has one of the worst dungeons ever made in any game because its core mechanic is that captured people are digging and they take a full moon cycle (new to new or full to full again) to dig 1 tile when you need them to dig 10 or so to finish the place. It's half or more of the game's playtime by itself even if you're abusing Estoma or there being no encounters in the passages themselves.

That's optional and you always have other shit to do in SMT2. It's not comparable to a mandatory dungeon where the timer won't progress when you're outside of it because fuck you.
