In this update, electricity and building infrastructure, more online functionality and a social hub, and more nature interaction (Examples of this are riding/husbanding animals), and a bunch of other stuff we won't know until the patch notes drop.

This is just an excuse. NMS is a sandbox FPS, it has guns, it has combat mechanics. But it only has one type of boring repetitive enemy. There is no reason for the lack of enemies other than the fact that the devs are limp dicked numales and chug söy like there's a shortage of it. In an open universe you'd expect to have enemies. This is not an unreasonable wish.

So if there's ship to ship combat, why wouldn't there be small arms combat too? Does everyone magically become pacifist when they leave their ship? It makes no sense.

Now, rather than just going from planet to planet making the materials to get to the next planet, the game gives the player a bunch of different paths to pursue, and ways to pursue them. Things like Ore extractors and farming functionality add a level of automation and passive production to allow the player to focus less on the grind, and more on the reward.

In Space Engineers you can PVP with assault rifles and shoot waves of hostile spider aliens.

Would be cool to actually have hostile alien races in different planets you stumble upon. I heard that they're revamping the AI so that they'll also be exploring planets and not just hub NPCS, as well as adding more alien races. Having rare encounters with savage alien tribes in ideal planets where you'd want to build your base at would be really good for this game. Like atleast add some more fps action or coop base-infiltrating type shit to make the game have way more depth than just grind and building simulation

Depends, it's definitely dependant on how much you think you can get out of it. I bought it at launch for full price, and have no regrets. A lot of my friends bought it on sale for half or less, and refunded it within a day.

I think a lot of people at the time didn't have much experience with games that relied heavily on procedural generation. Maybe they thought it would be like Spore if everyone didn't make dick aliens. And since it wasn't an indie game, but a huge title being pushed by Sony, expectations went through the roof. Then day 1 you had compilations of the extremely limited building blocks it used to make almost identical looking animals and environments.

If you didn't have any expectations for that feature, then yeah I have no idea what there was to look forward to. There was some Olympic level question dodging every time you asked what the gameplay was like. Either you could do literally everything, or it was just a sightseeing game. Turns out it was actually an extremely repetitive resource grinder and inventory management simulator.

Then talk to them about it, and see how they respond. I was dumb enough to force it on a group of people who play nothing other than League and CSGO, which didn't end well.

Theres also a bunch of player made communities around the game, I'm sure you won't have a hard time finding people to play with.

If the game hadn't built itself on a hype campaign and if it wasn't $60, it would be a lot more successful. The launch version of the game would be fine for about $15, and it would get decent reviews. Although arguably if that had been how things went down it might've not improved as much as it has in the years since release.

Regardless, though, it doesn't matter anymore. The game is "fixed" and has been for some time, and they just keep making it better.

I just want a nice grinding game in space. I want a progression of resource hunting that feels good. I've tried no mans sky and it's kinda shit. Gathering mats to do anything was too much of a chore and didn't seem to get any easier. Ships also fucking suck and I don't know how to improve it. Finding them is obnoxious because repairing costs too much and buying them sucks because they usually cost too much or I don't know what price is even good. I want the game to be good because I enjoy these types but it's such a slog to get even remotely set up. No VR or friends so hopefully they slip some balancing in alongside the update otherwise the game is still worthless to me.

Can you visually customise your ship yet? It's fucking lame having to sit on stations hoping for something that doesn't look like complete ass to appear. Game would be much more fun if you could upgrade your base to the point you can create and modularly customise your own ships. You get a copy of the players base in your game. Nothing you do to it gets transmitted back to it's owner.
Even if you could destroy peoples shit (which you can't), they could not see it anyway. It happens on your computer and no one elses. And if you close and reopen the game, that persons shit will be back the way it was in your game too.
