its more engaging than POE because the story is about a fairly easy to understand political disagreement and also about an issue with a dryad character that is invented for the purposes of this game.

POE, despite being an entirely new IP and campaign setting, does nothing to make you feel like you "got in on the ground floor" so to speak. every piece of dialogue and lore is about some esoteric subject, some famous person, some far off land, you feel like you've joined someone else's D&D campaign mid way through and the setting is entirely of their own design and half the terms and things they say to each other are in a language of their own creation.

Game has alot of dialogue, it starts to go in to more gameplay than dialogue later on. At least from my experience.

i honestly played something like 40 hours of POE over a couple of aborted playthroughs and i couldnt tell you what the story is about.

its a pretty basic story about gods having disagreements with each other or some shite like that but the presentation of it is a total mess. whoever wrote that story probably has 5 year old kids that can't speak english but are still trying to learn the alphabet. its all assbackwards in how the ideas, lore and concepts are taught to you. nothing feels organic about it

All these classes are in Pathfinder already and you even get premade companions to fill these slots.
If you are used to DnD, conversion is easy.

It's fedora master story (you basically try to avenge your atheist friend all the time) but it's more about how un-epic it is. Everything cool already happened long time ago and all you see is ash and ember left. You don't even do anything special, just interrupt some guy doing his job since centauries (and in good faith) and save your own psyche. You are just side story guy in PoE and that's what bites the ass.

You cannot make him your main tank or your main source of melee damage(at least in anything above normal). They can easily do a secondary role in each case. You can spec clerics to be casters of course.

You forgot to mention that the vast majority of the lore dumps in PoE are completely irrelevant and about events that you will never see or have any relation to. It's genuinely one of the worst written A+ games I've ever played.

In the same order you listed the classes: Harrim, Valerie, PC Rogue, Octavia(as arcane scoundrel), Ekundayo. That's only 5 btw so take either Amiri(barb), Linzi(bard) or Jaethal(inquisitor, kinda of like cleric or favoured soul) as your sixth.

Rogues are front line fighters in Pathfinder btw. The game provides you with feats to add your dex bonus to hit and damage, and you'll have huge AC, and flanking procs sneak attacks so you'll be shitting out massive sneak attack damage on every hit.

Also rangers, like Ekun, have animal companions which are actually really useful in Pathfinder. Dog is an absolute beast. At level 10 with Enlarge Animal spell buffs he has something like 40 str and dex.

That somebody called Pathfinder Clerics more casters than fighters as opposed of walking deities from 3.5 D&D.

Your definition of suck is interesting, but unless you play on unfair, clerics can do a great job in the front, especially for a full caster class.

The feeling that you always have to return to your kingdom because of some opportunity or problem you can miss. Sometime the DC is too high and you can fail everything. Also, some problems are on a timer and can get pretty devastating if you don't take care of them. You can softlock yourself if you can't solve a problem because the right advisor is busy something another important problem. I had to change difficuly once because one problem had a DC high as fuck and nobody could solve it.

Every single one of these things are bad gameplay design and shouldn't happen.

Clerics can be useful in the front line for keeping squishy DPS classes on their feet, like barbs for example, or for simply keeping your tank tanking in long fights. In Kingmaker specifically, Harrim can easily get over 30 AC so he's a good tank with the right feats. The time pressure aspect of the kingdom management means you can't sleep 8 hours every time you take a scratch like you could in say Baldur's Gate so having someone that can channel positive energy and heal your whole team for as much as 30 HP each like 8 times a day is pretty invaluable. Also in Kingmaker YOU WILL get poisoned and have your stats fucked. And this doesn't go away until actively healed by a restoration spell or potion. You can't not have a cleric so you might as well armor it up and make it tank hits.

they fixed all that in the enhanced edition. you get about half a year between chapters to get your kingdom in order and you can use "crisis points" to change your chances to succeed to deal with a kingdom problem from say 65% to 90% now.

even before that, it really wasn't that hard. just ignore "opportunities" and solve "problems" and don't stray outside your kingdom for weeks at a time

Unless it needs you to be in the throne room, you can do events from anywhere in your territory (and new building lets you do them outside of your territory eventually as well).
So you just have to see a few guests once a month.

PFKM is still a fun game, but I prefer it with custom mercs. Especially because the premades are generally unlikable to me.

You don't understand. I like the game and think it's the best CRPG since BG2. The kingdom management can be deep, complex, whatever you want but it is not fun. I'm not thrilled to get some card and discard it with clicking on some advisor and wait a few days or week to solve another card.

honestly its probably tower shield specialist, cleric, haste bot of some sort and 3 rangers.

i've never tried it before but if you can have multiple animal companions at a time, and given how OP they are, 3 rangers would be wildy OP. the tower shield specialist is your tank, and the cleric keeps everyone healthy between fights

Too many lategame enemies target touch ac for armour to actually make for a good tank, monks do it much better. A monk with the lawful good-only robes that give +5 ac is ridiculously hard to hit.

if you wanna steamroll the game with minimal clicks, long bow rangers are the way to go

If you constantly make the worst possible mistakes or fail kingdom events your kingdom enters various degrees of unrest.
Maximum unrest is game over.
Its hard to acualy screw up so bad that you do get a game over but the game is RNG to an extend thou you can use Crissis points as a sort of currency make it less RNG but these are limited.
But even then its just unnecessary thing to worry about when you just want to go adventuring.

Personally i found spamming summons and buffs before more difficult fights is the best way to steamroll the game.
Obviously you do need to have good actual DPS on top of summoning 20 skeletons 6 elemental and 4 Summon monster spell caster creatures.

my mages have one spell and one spell alone memorised: haste. thats all theyre good for.

Arcane trickster with half a dozen metamagic variations of scorching ray set to every spell level works pretty well as a fire and forget wizard character.

And a high DC caster with weird just ends encounters.

I started the game several times, and could never get past Season of Bloom aftermath. it's almost a year of doing literally nothing or constantly savescumming if you want the best outsome for the events. Also Jhod quit after I refused another one of his retarded proposals and I only have harrim for the position of grand cleric now, and i feel like he'll really turn my kingdom into a downer daisy's turf
