Why is this game rated so highly?
you are like baby
You can emulate des?
Everybody thinks the first game they played in the series is the best game. Not enough people have gone back to play DeS and realized how mediocre it is to shift popular opinion.
Even at 120 fps
I went back to it and it was great. Multiplayer was flawed with rampant bug abuse but otherwise it's a very solid game with interesting enemies, unique worlds, an intriguing storyline, and challenging gameplay.
you just don't get it faggot
Because it's the first, has a unique world, and an interesting soundtrack. It's a little rough around the edges, but it still holds up remarkably well.
for starters it's the only souls game where the mechanics are built around the game world
I figured Miyazaki saying it was mediocre would have swayed the opinion a bit but i guess not
It was an exceptional first attempt at an original formula. That’s basically it. It did something new and executed it well for its time. It’s a little dated, but still fun if you can adjust to it.
DaS3 > BB > DeS >>> DaS1 >>> DaS2
It was the first of its kind, and offer new ideas on the table. I remember it was great when I first played, but when I revisited it after having played the latest installments, I can say that it has its share of flaws. Either way its a pretty fun game and its nice to see where Dark Souls series were based upon
Pleb
It was the best souls game in it's prime when online was super active. Now it's a shell of what it once was. The online was everything.
who is this semen demon
hey at least you put 2 as last
magic is gay am i right fellas
>tfw BB is the only souls game left, stuck at 30fps
Demon's Souls is still de facto 30 fps
Using the rpcs3 hack causes all sorts of problems like dsfix did.
>Using the rpcs3 hack causes all sorts of problems like dsfix did.
isn't it only the title screen animation, and the beginning intro?
Almost like they improve when making more games or something, crazy
The game is good but hipsters overrate it.
It's been outdone in nearly every regard. The one advantage it does still have is the archstones allow for more choice, but I prefer an interconnected world.
It honestly baffles me that people praise the "gimmick bosses", you're basically outting yourself as a storyfag because mechanically they're either mediocre or terrible.
They are fun fights. Not every fight has to be the same as in DS2 or DS3. You would better be playing a fighting game rather than learn you i-frames and the ai pattern.
>putting DS2 in shit-tier/last
ELL OH ELL
Why did you say DS2 and DS3? DS1 and BB hardly do the gimmick thing either.
DS3 arguably has the most gimmick bosses since DeS.
It's just roll and hit, roll and hit against big or very big enemies. DeS at least had a change of peace with the king of storms, the blind hero, lady Astraea, etc.and they surprised you.
DS2 is below shit tier, DS2SOFTS actually redeemed the game a little bit.
Ironically he must have meant it barely causes any problems, similar to dsfix
It's the same shit although I don't consider it below DS3. The dlc areas are boring and repetitive.
>It's bad because the gameplay is fast and punishing
LMfao the absolute state of these bandwagoners, go back to fucking minecraft.
It was the first, and some of the areas/atmosphere is still great. The bosses are such a joke even when just compared to how DaS1 improved the formula. The idea that a visual remake by Bluepoint is all it would need is laughable
>DaS1 improved the formula by making combat sluggish and snail like
I bet you love ds2 aswell which slowed it down even further.
this. I played DeS after DS1 and 2 and while some parts of it were GOAT (Tower of Latria comes to mind), it was by and large surpassed by the later games in almost every regard.
BB>DaS1>DeS>DaS3>Shit>DaS2
No amount of retarded contrarian das2 shitposting will change these facts.
>realize it's literally DS3 0.1
Wow, it's almost as if DkS3 was made 7 years after DeS or something.
Best atmosphere.
Best swamp level. DaS swamps are nothing compared to 5-2.
Best lore, just the right amount of ominousness and minimalism. DaS series overdid it.
But then again, in a metaseries full of baffling design decisions, DeS is the one game that had me wondering nonstop what the people at From were smoking at the time. And it's very mediocre technically.
Still love it.
>best setting, feels very Arthurian

describing something as "the best" is not how you express a subjective opinion, dumbass
Quite based
I didnt think I needed to put "In my opinion" before every word considering the subject matter and question nevertheless ..in my opinion.
Happy?
Dark Souls 2 is the best one, NIGGER. I will not respond again in this thread.
Holy fucking based tripfag
DS2 is the worst Soulborne game but is still a good game. Don't @ me
Dark Souls 1 is half finished. Dark Souls 3 is a remix of a half finished game. Gaslamp fantasy is gay. Weebshit is even worse.
That leaves Demon's Souls, and Dark Souls 2. They're the only good ones.
>outting yourself as a storyfag
It's a roleplaying game.
and the only missing shit from DeS is the giant stone
which doesn't matter since its not like DaS where you have half game being empty
fancy attack animations, interesting npc's and bosses, definitely the most atmospheric souls game, world 1 and especially 3 are really depressing
Absolute Kino: youtube.com
Dark Souls 2 sucked until it got all its DLCs, which were generally the only good parts. Bloodborne is great and Sekiro is enjoyable.
Is the RPCS3 emulation of Demon's Souls graphically accurate? I really want to play it but I'm worried about the graphical glitches/inaccuracies.
DS3 was my first game. DS1 is my favorite.
Sounds like she's built for cucking Garl Vinland with
A literal Sony nigger.
There are a couple of minor glitches like the solider’s shield having an invisible model but other than that I think it’s pretty much perfect.
Huh that's surprising. You'd expect RPCS3 to be more glitchier than PCSX2 because of dev time, being harder to emulate etc.
Dark Souls 3 would be better with a Demons Souls level select than the current linear system. I really wanna love DS3 but its just no fun to replay in the same linear order every time. They improved so much but just broke the pacing.
I played DeS not too long ago, after going through most games and eventually finding myself with a PS4 to play it and BB.
Honestly it was alright, but I can sincerely say it does not meet the praise at all. Like it's an excellent game for when it was released, yet at the same time it's kind of disappointing.
The puzzle bosses were simply meme-worthy. There was nothing "fun" about trudging all the way to the Dragon God to do a Push A Button To Win scene. It wasn't "kino", it wasn't "unique", it was just a let down.
Astraea and the Storm God were, at least, interesting in their execution, but in turn suffered of quite possibly the worst layouts for a level I have ever seen. The swamp is a fucking eyesore and there is very little enjoyment in slogging through 20 thousand OHKO ogres, only to be met with "that was meant to be a boss?" fights by the end of each.
The same applies to the crypts. The skeletons were plain dull ass fuckery in the buggy, poorly made paths of the crypts, often times the little shits got stuck in endless spinning animations or kicked you down THROUGH the walls.
It's worth a playthrough by all means, hell the Tower of Laria alone should be a selling point, that shit was nice even if lmao2goyles is possibly the buggiest, clunkiest boss battle to ever fucking disgrace videogaming.
But it really wasn't better in any way over any game that came after it.
The Dragon God is generally the one case where the unconventional boss fight was a let down, considering how it was built up in the cutscenes and promotional material. Also, what skeletons did you even fight inside the island? They're in the outdoor areas. As for the swamp, while getting in range of the island with four giants can leave you fucked over, that generally should only happen once. I hate that part too, but it's not that frequent. Getting lost thinking there might be a gap in the fence is the worst part.
>PS4
>DeS
Nani?
because it's better than Dark Souls and has acutal mechanics.
dsfix at 60fps affects the physics. The physics engine is tied to the frame rate. This affects your rolls and jumps and other things as it means you're actually heavier.
Like what, user?
character tendency world tendency more and better gimmick bosses black phantoms that are challenging complex upgrade path.
This kind of thought process is what encourages AAA publishers to release iterative assassin's creeds and call of duty games.
If it makes improvements on the previous one then it's just the better game, right?
Demon's souls is just a worse dark souls. Why does it even exist? We only need dark souls! Stop existing demon souls, you're shit!
Originality has more value than every iterative improvement combined, you fucking brainlet.
>Why is this game rated so highly?
PS3 exclusive. It was shit then and shit now.
>character tendency
You mean the pointless thing that you could manipulate by constantly suiciding which changed about two NPC questlines in the entirety of the game? Great shit.
>world tendency
Absolutely good idea, ridiculous execution, and again, changed so little it may as well not even have been there.
>better gimmick bosses
Not exactly an argument when all bosses are gimmick bosses, and the ones that aren't stand in place waiting to die.
>challenging black phantoms
lolno, the black phantoms are as retarded as any other souls games, they are just put in retarded spots with unfair advantages, like the swamp bitch being immune to swamp effects because fuck you.
>complex upgrade path
And pointless, too, since nothing requires you ever looking twice at anything but the most basic upgrades anyways.
zoomers won't get this but back in 2009 the games we were getting were an endless stream of uninspired filth
Criticizing DeS for being unrefined/unpolished is the same as saying Super Mario bros is not as good as Mario 64, they are two completely different games and so far no other fromsoft game has had the level of creativity found in DeS especially since most new bosses are pretty much copy paste of the Flamelurker fight
>Originality
Are we going to overlook DeS is just a 3D King's Field, or does your argument mean DeS is in fact shit and we should be praising King's Field?
this. people keep comparing DeS to the games that came after it, but that isn't fair. When it was released there was nothing else like it.
It's not being criticized for being unrefined, but for having the same kind of cancerous design as DaS3, i.e., rolling and attacking costing very little stamina, and having very little recovery, no poise, instant healing, etc.
DUMBEST POST OF THE YEAR AWARD
>Are we going to overlook DeS is just a 3D King's Field,
You can definitely tell that DeS did seem to start as a modern Kings Field style game. But Miyazaki didn't work on that original series or its spin offs. And the game is third person, rather than first person. So while the inspiration is there, there's enough significant differences.
Velvet Crowe
>ds3 in the same tier as ds2
cringe
objectively correct order is bloodborne>sekiro=ds3>ds1=des>sotfs=ds2
>Flamelurker
I don't remember being able to win all fights by walking slightly in a circle using the most basic kind of soul arrow for unlimited damage while the bosses fail to even aim at me...
I played through all the Kings Field games and even some spinoffs like Eternal Ring last year and my only wish for my entire future is for more Kings Field games to be made. There are so few first person dungeon crawlers that aren’t grid based/turn based garbage like Eye of the Beholder or Legends of Grimrock. I need more free roam first person exploration based rpgs right now.
I think DS3 is the best. I started with DS1 but after replaying it multiple times for the Platinum I realized it has poor replay value, much like Bloodborne.
DS3>DS1=BB>DS2>NIOH>DeS
>bloodborne=ds1>ds3>ds2+softs=des=sekiro
ftfy
It definitely started as a KF game before it got into development hell and almost died entirely
A lot of the assets are basically high res KF assets, like the Moonlight Sword (DeS is literally the classic design as opposed to the unique universe-specific designs of Dark Souls or BB), and Soldier class' starting armor being basically the first person view model arms from classic KF games but with an armor set attached, not to mention the unused armored snakemen basically being hd versions of the Widda cultist snakemen from KF4
Tierlist fags should jut fucking off themselves
DS was not higly rated, the ratings became higher once DaS fans went back to it.
All souls games are good.
Some are bit better than others in some aspects but all of them are overall good and enjoyable games.
If you disagree and still insist that one of them is the best and all others are shit i am sorry to say chum but you have the asutims.
and this invalidates the rankings how exactly?
You are wrong. The only reason I bought a PS3 was because I saw that Atlus was localizing Demon’s Souls. I went straight to Gamestop to buy a PS3 and preordered DS. DS is the best game on the PS3.
dork souls sucks ass, the ONLY reason this shit got popular was because it made normalfags feel hardcore for playing a game with hitboxes so bad it spiked the difficulty for them
>t. seething tranny who never got past capra demon
What about Shadow Tower series?
can you nu-males go 1 second without thinking about tranny cock?
Because of nostalgia.
It has the worst bosses and the worst level design with.
I played the one on PS I think. That’s the one with the really bad durability on weapons right? I don’t remember it very distinctly.
DS hitboxes are pretty much perfect, stay mad.
lol what is that shit?
ds3 is filled with references and pandering to DeS nostalgiafags
Demon’s Souls has the best level design out of all Soulslike games. Since each area is self contained without connecting to any other archstone the levels actually feel like they have thought put into them. Tower of Latria is amazing still to this day, full of backtracking and going from one side to the other for keys. The swamp blows Blighttown out of the water. Boletaria Castle is so much better than any location across DS 1-3.
I spend over 1000h over all souls games and this is the true tier list
BB>ds2>ds=des>>>>>>>ds3
DaS2 is a finished game by Fromsoftware standards and it has the most content. Too bad all the content is mediocore though.
As opposed to rolling around until you chip away at the boss while they do nothing?
Believe it or not back in the day Flamelurker was considered one of the more difficult bosses in the game and the newer games just have the same variation of 'Big guy that does a lot of damage' with the occasional uninspired puzzle boss, compare that to:
Old Monk
Maiden Astraea
Storm King
Fool's Idol
Old hero
Fake King Allant
And while some of those bosses are not the most challenging they force you to bend your way of thinking to adapt on the things you have to do and fundamentally change how you play the game, and unfortunately that's one of the things that has been getting lost in the modern "soulsborne" games
Sun flare is still glitched or at least in my copy. I though they fixed this ages ago but it's still in it seems.
>content was bad
Lol no it has the best content. Plebs just hate it because it isnt grim dark fantasy
Silence, pleb. I'll have hear no more of your shit opinions.
How much of a retard do you have to be to not like Demon's Souls but like Dark Souls?
>Demon’s Souls has the best level design out of all Soulslike games. Since each area is self contained without connecting to any other archstone the levels actually feel like they have thought put into them.
ALso gave you a sense you were bopping around this huge kingdom. Place is probably as big as Britain. Tower of Latria for example might be 100 km away from the capital city.
I played Dark Souls 1 first and I think it's the worst in the series. I'm not even trying to be contrarian.
Sekiro has the best combat, movement, bosses and challenge without any of the superfluous bullshit
what else could you possibly want
DeS set up the SOUL of the series and it's too bad its been diluted with each passing release. All the character has been drained in the name of streamlining to make sure the player is never made to feel uncomfortable. It's gotten to the point where these games are just hit and dodge with nothing interesting going on in between.
Miyazaki is indeed a hack fraud that needs to go back to the drawing board and figure out what made people love his games in the first place. It wasn't me mediocore ass combat, no, it was the unique moments like Maiden Astraea, innovative mechanics like the online system and most of all the bleak atmosphere with dim flashes of hope. The atmosphere part has somewhat been present in all of his games but alas, its also being degraded with each release because of the reliance on combat rather than experimental moments and mechanics.
DeS has a lot of bullshit that the later games fixed like the clunky menus and shitty healing system. Too bad Miyazaki decided to remove the soul while he was refining the formula and Elden Ring will be a make it or break it point for me. If it is just more of his combat memery with nothing else going on then I'm out, fuck this hack.
>Miyazaki is indeed a hack fraud that needs to go back to the drawing board and figure out what made people love his games in the first place.
It was primarily because it felt like a breath of fresh air to have a game that feels like a video game and has focus on gameplay. It feels like an 8-16 bit game translated into 3D.
Most games are these cinematic nonsense where you barely feel like you're playing instead are just watching.
it has its perks, but in almost every aspect it's inferior to its sequels
worth a playthrough if you enjoyed DaS1/3 a lot, it's an ugly, lovable prototype
>ugly
it looks 100 times better than DaS2.
Soul.
Soulless.
I played des after all of the others (souls + bb) and it's my second favorite. although technically you're right about my first being my favorite (das1)
>like dsfix did
even dark souls remastered has fucked up physics lol, you can jump to the bottom of blighttown without dying
shit opinion, cute bird
>install 120fps patch/mod
>physics are now locked to framerate
>game slows way the fuck down especially when falling to 40-50 fps
Thanks I guess. Is there a fix?
I hated it because it fried my i5
Try 60fps. 120 just seems too much for a game with phsyics tied to framerate.
Pleb taste. Sekiro is From’s best game
Finally someone that get It right
this nigger is absolutely right.
All other people are faggot normie contrarians who don't have actual taste.
Dark Souls 2 is the only Dark Souls that matters.
DaS2 is the worst looking and worst playing game in the series, why are you even bringing it up?
I'm not going to stand around and pretend that DeS is fine.
>those shitty roll frames
>Yurt bullshit shenanigans
>a ton of the game is in shitty small/closed spaces, so if you want to play with some weapons you can't because of horizontal swings
>and some of the shitty small spaces are death pitfalls
>false idol decent fight ruined by gimmick, interesting the first time
>old monk ruined by gimmick thanks to being locked on a shitty platform nobody is playing anymore and having the online not working anymore (maybe you can get it working with custom servers)
>Shrine of Storms skellies spamming roll infinitely either destroys your shield stamina or alternatively they just roll the fuck into you if you try to dodge them by rolling
>Shrine of Storms manta rays gimmick is annoying as fuck
>Old Hero is a really cool fight because he's blind... but not really? once again great idea executed poorly
>Storm King, pick up special sword, spam R1, special sword is now useless, full gimmick
>the Dragon God """"""""""""""fight""""""""""""""
>that FUCKING poison sound that you have to put up with through the entirety of 5-2
>5-2 when you aggro those giant nose guys and you're still in the mud
>the hitboxes on those fucking mosquitoes jesus christ
>if I want to 1v1 the Penetrator I have to leave Bjorn locked up in his cell fuck you game
>the entire tendency system, what the fuck were they thinking
>disgusting resolution and framerate (fixable now thanks to emulation, I guess, haven't tried it yet, but when I replay it it'll be with it)
I'll say it again. DeS is an ugly, lovable prototype. Great ambience and music and voice acting, and it's cool to see the rest of the stuff they put in even if they're flawed, but I will not pretend that it's anything above that.
Dsfix does not change rolling, wherever you got that, it was disinfo. The player doesn't enter a falling state during the animation, as such isn't affected at all by falling being updated at a higher tick.
The problems that actually occur, with jumping, occur solely due to the fact that a players Y vector, when the player is not touching the ground, updates at a higher tick.
Before you say "feet leave the ground on roll," no, they don't, unless a player rolls off a ledge the player model is glued to the ground during the animation, and doesn't interact with the game's Y velocity management at all.
Ladder bug occurs at unlocked framerates, can happen at 20fps and 120fps. Player enters animation to climb ladder, game skips the frame where player is actually transfered onto it. Can happen with doors and levers. Similar to what happens in Skyrim/Fallout4 if you try to pick a lock while running above 60
Why do you compare a 2009 game with a "sequel" that came out 7 years after
Is there a way to play demon's souls online on emulator?
I miss the days where I could see player ghosts and messages
that would be Armored Core: Nexus
I too enjoyed playing seamless multiplayer in King's Field on my PlayStation 2 entertainment system.
No.
Are you fucking crazy, literally ALL the pre-release hype for Dark Souls was generated by the million or two people who played demon's souls. No one else was putting the spotlight on from software at the time.
>tripfag is retarded
What a surprise
>DaS2 is the worst looking and worst playing game in the series, why are you even bringing it up?
seethe harder, wrongfag
are you pretending that the 50x50 pixels copypasted textures are not ugly? or are you pretending that the hitboxes and grab boxes and level design in DaS2 aren't horrible? or both?
He's right. It is. I still think it's a good game, but in technical terms it is the worst in the series.
It's still better than DS3, though, because DS3 was DELIBERATELY uninspired fanwankery.
Since everyone is posting these...
sekiro = 1 > 3 = SOFTS > 2
Haven't played BB because no ps4 but I fully expect it to be on par with sekiro.
I skipped 1 and 2 and played DS3 first so that I could experience it for what it is and not get offended by any references to previous games
highest IQ maneuver possible
you got the chart backwards
more like velvet BRAP
Are shaders still an issue? I don't feel like playing through the game just to stutter constantly.
No other From level has come close to the kino of Tower of Latria
PLEASE
HELP ME
I dont know about mediocre, but... Yeah, I would never rate it higher than any soulslikes other than DaS2 (this includes sekiro and BB)
FPBP. Alway.
*ahem*
Sekiro = DaS >>> BB > DaS 3 >>> DeS >>> DaS 2
I am indecisive as fuck with Sekiro and Dark Souls. Sekiro has higher peaks with its boss fights, but a decent chunk of the levels/inbetween time is really mediocre and feels like it lacks focus. Parts of it are open-ended, but it doesnt commit to it and will make you backtrack if you didnt do things in the right order. Dark Souls kinda has this problem with the Anor Londo fog gates but it isnt nearly as bad imo
UUUUUUARRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
How do I get the framerate to not tank to single digits every time a crate is broken?
Of course shader caches are a problem and they will continue be a even bigger problem in every emulator for future consoles.
DS 2 is the worst Souls game but it's my favorite game in the series
What an original opinion and definitely not influenced by Yea Forums hivemind.
This is the Yea Forums hivemind though.
des > sekiro > bb >>>>> dark souls cashgrabs
DSfix causes exactly two problems that I remember: Jumps become shorter and a few ladders in the game can noclip you out of the level if you slide down them.
Both issues are handled with a key to toggle between 30 and 60. Same function also happen to let you really appreciate the difference.
